Event Reviews posted by Soulfulmerlin

This Venue just gets better, Great show from Sidney Jones, the Ged Parker and finally Tony Mundey. Sadly as Sid isn't on Soul Source and Ged I don't think used this platform for over 20 years. Can only pass on the facts. Music was stunning. Stafford, Mecca Orrell probably every venue lost featured. I have screenshot of Sids playlists from his Facebook page. Ged am still waiting on. Tony, well Anne can pass on his thoughts. The Venue suffered with Keele and a Soul Band being on at Morecambe. Less said the better. However Two Rooms with matching Sound Systems. Resident DJ'S of equal quality.

Only costs £6, we knew it would take time. But we hold our own. As it isn't a cash cow. We don't do successive events to rake the cash. It's a proper Event. Playing proper music. With icon DJs. On brighter side of life. We achieved a major scoop. Stephen Condron is now resident. If you know then you know. If you haven't been. You don't.

  1. Nice little Venue. Off street parking. Small Sprung Wooden Dancefloor. Great hosts. Well worth a Sunday visit. Drinks £3 pint larger.

    Good company.

Thanks for the Invite. Tez played some cracking choons early doors. 👏 William Maley and Caff great sets mix of R&B Northern.

Enjoyed my day, unfortunately surveyed from having a carbonated drink. Lesson learned. It ended my trip out.

    Keep up the good work

  2. Two Room Soul Event, attendance growing along with it's reputation for a Quality Soul Night. Tables adorned with snacks provided by Soul Kitchen Ally, Bring your own drinks policy. We clear empty bottles regularly and provide assistance for spillages. It does happen when folk have a good time. It's no drama lol 😆

We had a technical issue with the amp in the Main-Room which held us up for a short while. Loose connection to power source fixed and up and running. Though it is stressful. However two Rooms pounding out great music till late  😉

    Have to thank

    Jacko ( Wow ) Paul Shirley ( wow )

Kev Murphy Brian Waterhouse and Graham Hudson our guests in Main-Room for fantastic music 🎶 which carried on. George Falzon who nearly gave me a heart attack. Powering up the amp as I inspected it 😆. He kicked off the night, Graham moved up earlier as Caff was stuck in traffic 😑 we cope. Then Kev McCaffrey started the night big time. Litmus paper lit and Jacko and Paul Shirley did the rest. Kev Murphy who could you ask better to help close the night with 90 minutes double decking with Bri Waterhouse.

Dolly-Room well that's for Gamekeeper Jones or Kathleen Oconnell ( DOLLY) to write ✍️

Guests Martin Sharpe and Mark Bryant with Resident Big Jimmy Cowburn am sure you will hear shortly. Brilliant 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

    Thank you everyone

Oh yes Massive Private Carpark 3 Beer Gardens and Disabled Facilities

  3. OK, Chic Mullineux, WOW. I recall at a Rugby Allnighter hopefully asking if you would like to come to Grimsargh Village Hall. Although at the time of conversion we were based at Poplar Club. However Sound Limiter issues. Bad bar staff it came to an end. Now building Grimsargh Village Hall. Oh my days did we get a treat. Chic rang me on morning of the event to ask as to what we would require. Informed him. We don't tell DJs what to play, it's your set. We are hoping to achieve extraordinary Soul Music 🎶.  Boy did we get it tonight. With Chic standing and delivering some of the rarest Big hitters which were all well received. Applauded and rightly so. Soul for millionaires. Tony Munday guest for August commenting. Glad I'm not following this Dave. Steve Condron did. Smashed it out the ball park. Actually had dancers crying More as 12.30 came and past. They just kept on dancing. The Dolly-Room run by Gamekeeper Jones and Dolly was the busiest it's been. All seats taken. Jimmy Cowburn starred again. What a Team of DJs we have. The Ashton Ukrainian crowd loved it. Lots of new faces all asking when next one is on.

See our Events for future High profile DJs. All wanting to come and play. They danced a lot and drank made merry. Thanks to George and Allison Gamekeeper Jones Dolly and Jimmy for all assistance. The new equipment in The Dolly Room sounded sublime. It just gets better.

Thanks to Frank Elson who will be doing a piece in Blues and Soul Magazine  beaming wishing he had his note pad. More huge collections next Mont. See listing.

    Thanks for everyone who came.

Very much enjoyed Phil Dunn. Of all the music played. Possible the Daddy on the night. Waiting at opening bit silly. Checking names when tickets shown. Unnecessary imo checking in on lists. It was all ticket. Anyway. A curtain fell down on us after seated. Bit funny really.

Mick was superb and Simon usual excellent. Butch. Left me disappointed. I had bigger him up to my mate after Congleton last summer. Where he blew me away. Odd Stafford track. Ivy Joe unreleased the Highlights. Other stuff  I've heard by other DJs over time. We left after an hour disappointed. Can do much better.

    Some outstanding sets,

Main-Room Kevin Murphy Ian Wills ( Unleashed) and Graham Watkinson Kevin McCaffrey George Falzon.  I will add play- Lists upon receipt.

    SOUL AT THE HALL

          8

So last night, again what a night. We welcomed Charlotte Hindley ( and ) Bump. Another great turnout. Not bad at all considering the Overcrowded Events for Easter. Some even changing dates. We still had a ball.

    Two-Roomed Event

The Dolly Room run by Kathleen Oconnell ( DOLLY) and Gamekeeper Jones. Bring a rich vein of knowledge and sounds from the Scene. Wow what Mick Smith brought. Outstanding! Stafford Lowton Civic in the Main Hall

Caff Kevin McCaffrey George Falzon and Guests Geoff Buckley and Jordan Wildon. Brilliance on decks. Gamekeeper Jones did last hour.  I was unwell had to leave early. 😔

Thank you for closing the Hall and safe keeping of the equipment

A fantastic dancefloor music system with no feedback 👌 no excessive base a Rolls Royce Sound System. We allow guests to express their knowledge. To many venues play the same records over and over again. We don't.

Not much in the way of photos from last night due to being unwell. Having to go home early.

Joy of going to a Venue and be blown away by a DJ ,( Mick Smith ) 😀 10/10

    NEXT MONTH

DOLLY-ROOM WILL BE TOP OF THE WORLD STAFFORD 🌎 👌

and LOWTON CIVIC hosted by Mick Smith and Jimmy Cowburn. Chorrr

    Thank you all who attended

Stunning music still dancing to last record smiling faces compliments all night.

    Was superb evening.

Thank you all who attended and made it such an incredible night. 👏

REMEMBER THIS IS A BRING YOUR OWN DRINKS EVENT.

Stunning Venue, Facilities and Sound System.

    Two Rooms of Soul.

The Dolly Room run by Gamekeeper Jones and Kathleen Oconnell fantastic Underplayed where pressure is relieved from DJs to express knowledge and selections. Actually so is the Main Room. Our Guests Carole Anne McCarthy ❤️ liked The Village Hall to Old Lowton Civic. Its just a bit smaller. Not that much though. Can played fantastic freestyle set. Loved her time on the decks and made glowing tributes to The Venue. Jimmy Cowburn has the vibe again. 2nd time on decks since returning from 8 year retirement. We got a glowing commendation from Frank Elson with particular reference to Resident Grorge Falzon who was quite magnificent. Unfortunately due to health issue similar to mine Frank had to leave and missed Carole and Caffs sets. Superb. Ambient sound at 78db perfection sound. 🥰 Dolly Room had a guest Geoff Buckley. Again fantastic. Hopefully they can add their own reviews and playlists.

Moving forward Febuary we welcome Ted Massey Si Ingham and Tony Poff.

A Bring Your Own Drinks Venue. Free tea/coffee/soft drinks for Car drivers.

    Massive Private Car Park.

    A diamond to be found.

  5. Once in a while a hidden gem is found. This is one such place. The acoustic sound was magnificent. Pitch tone perfection. Bring your own drinks was a huge success. Smiling faces, stress free. No one walking across the dancefloor with drinks. The Preston lads certainly seemed to enjoy it.

Very large carpark was only a third full. A good first turnout of 50 is a working figure. We hope those numbers will increase now it's been seen and sampled. Fabulous sets by George Falzon, followed by Chris Barr 👍 not done much in the way of Guest spots. Chris was superb. Dsve Lowe, when we booked. Was told be Dave Lowe. He didn't disappointed. What a set. Kevin McCaffrey played another hour of nostalgic Northern Soul. George closed the night.

Thanks to Alison Todd and Vicky Wright Cornwell for sorting the kitchen ablutions for Tea Coffee and chilled soft drinks. Some of the drivers enjoyed.

    So free water dancers dream.

Relaxed Beer Garden for Socialising and those wishing to smoke.

    Plentiful free parking

Great Music and Problem free Sound System.

You just have to pay a visit.

    September 30 next Event.

  6. Wow what a night. Great feedback from a varied selection of folk from locations across Lancashire and beyond.

Our Top Guest Hammie played a blinding set. Quality

We looked after him. Housed overnight en-suite after a 6 hrs journey. Was just what they needed.  We take good care of the guests. 95% of seats were taken. It was a hot sweaty and very Soulful evening. When folk want to stay and talk about it. After the last record. Think it says a thing about the Event. For those who don't know. An upstairs old School dark and very Soulful. Sounds stem purring at around 80db. Just the ticket. Kenny Parkinson set us underway with George Falzon playing some stunning moder/crossover tracks. Clitheroe Soul Club Neil Grainger played some great Classics with few R&B mixed got the floor moving. Mick Sikora from Rochdale carried on with uptempo brew. The Hammie. Who didn't disapoint. Evening to the close was Kevin McCaffrey an Accrington Legend. Who back in the day. Was asked to take records to the very first Wigan Casino. Also sold many discoveries to Richard Serling.

    A fine night.

    Next up Friday September 1st.

If you like Old School Venues. This is for you. If your a dancer. Bring a change of tops. It gets warm.

Free tap water behind the bar. For those who need it. Screenshot_20230804_223423_SoundMeter.thumb.jpg.8f1eb73971d9ad529a0ddacc9bac46ca.jpg

Been 5 years since I last visited. Was a little quiet at first. Took in upstairs Northern Soul. Which was mainly classic floor fillers with Jim Scrivener playing some belting alternative takes. Broke two headsets apparently. Possibly left channel open after queing in the track. Not been well for two years. Glad to see him back. I went to see Tim Rabjohn? However he was absent JB informed me a family emergency so couldn't attend. Caught up with Brian Witowski. He had me in stitches 🤣 cracking jokes sharing stories about Bridlington, found out no buses to take you to where you stay . Can't get taxis for love nor money. Why I don't go anymore. We also chatted on 100 Club adventure  a proper Soul Man he and his pal the driver lol. Eventually went downstairs caught up with Charlie Smith from Preston City Soul Club and an old mate from Scotland. A lass was doing the set. Didn't know her but music was fine  Enjoyment lost when half bottle of Talc was chucked onto the floor. Difficulty breathing so called it. Warning ⚠️ if in a car you need to register or get a fine. I wasn't informed upon arrival and only found out off Brian's friend. So rushed to bar. I won't pay the 100 pound fine if I get one. Busy little Club badges Tee shirts on sale in foyer. For me a little less talc. As it is a health hazard and The Soul is sweeter. Drove back down M55 in tropical thunderstorm guess it was a Roadtrip to remember.

Well what can I say about Saturday night.

Running a Soul Night is complex, has many tribunals associated, Saturday we were a man down. One of the key components of Tiffany's Soul Club Accrington.  Denis Billingham, Den suffered a detached retina and was unable to attend. Due to the affects of Hospital treatment. He like I was devastated. We all put in lots of work behind the scenes to try and bring the best night possible. Kevin McCaffrey well I don't think that there could have been a better starter for Jordan Wilson to ignite the passion. Which he gave us both barrels. Wow and Wow again. Mark Freeman put another superb set the audience clapping whistling gave me goosebumps. Our recor Ssles room used for first time. Two sellers Rob Hitchcroft and Gamekeeper Jones busy to say the least. Thanks guys. Then Tony Clarke oh boy now we have had some excellent sets this Year at Tiffany's but this one he took off the roof. Mick Sikora sat for the most part in awe of what Jordan Mark and Tony put together. Kenny Parkinson stood in for Denis and kept the floor going till 1 am. Our Membership numbers continue to grow. Next year those who are members get ticket preference for our all Ticket event. In 2023 I'm drained St the moment. These folks not forgetting Liz Mahoney and Roger who got us underway and providing car Sticker Sales. We'll done everyone DJs Dancers

Special mention to John Weston Jon Jones and Luci what characters they are.

    Thanks

    Very tired

  7. Would like to give it 5 stars musically, not quite. It was fully across the board. With some outstanding records played over the whole evening. 👏  our numbers badly hit by the Memorial dayer in Rochdale for Paul Harris. I gather it was rammed and a fitting send off for a well liked fella. R.I.P as for Tiffany's well warmed up nicely by Wayne Sibthorpe ( Exeter )

Then Denis the Menis Billingham swooned with his mix of dancers and unknown alternative takes. Which had numerous venture on stage to drool over what had been played. Alan Jenkins

( Falkirk  ) making his first appearance at Tiffany's stunning and followed by Legendary Dave Caffery mixed it up super 👍 ended with The Caff Kevin McCaffrey in his element. We had one complaint music not for his taste or knowledge. Isn't that what it's about. 2022 still can hear music you haven't heard. The Membership Cards went well. Last two sold at 12.15 am. Couple from Lake District making first visit to Tiffany's.  Loved the dancefloor the ambience and music. I think ability to attract dancers from Scotland Wales and over the Lakes, Bradford Manchester says it all about this Venue. Great night at Accrington Premier Soul Venue. Our no talc policy respected by all. Some epic dancers on the floor last night. Chippy in his element doing his stuff  Big Duncsn from Scotland spinning like a top. Sound System so good can tweak at touch of a button to alter sound distortion.

    Thank you all who attended

  8. Well after a difficult week, they turned out in their numbers at Tiffany's Soul Club Accrington.
94 through the door, despite Blackpool Tower and a jazz festival being on at Colne Muni. Idiots try to talk us down. Fools listen. End of the day. We are without a shadow of a doubt Accrington's number 1 Soul Venue. First up shout out for Luci Jones who is booked for next year to guest with another DJ who we will keep under our hat. Stood in for Bob Hinsley who went down with Covid. One comment about our Club. Folk meeting up with friends from 20 or 30 years ago.
So we had an issue with new mixer 3 channel not functioning correctly so we had to revert to the old faithful. No issue. So thanks to Liz Mahoney warming up great tunes. Oh Luci stunning stuff. Denis Billingham the master Tsop Manchester full of praise for our Club and thanks Baz. Kevin McCaffrey in his element kept floor going till 1 am. Brilliant night once again. Thanks to everyone who made another Magical Tiffany's Soul Night.

  9. Blew the roof off at Tiffany's. It was a dreary wet Saturday night. Inside ambient 18c air-conditioned Dancefloor. The bar was lifted with Stunning OV from Kevin McCaffrey Kevin Murphy went a notch or two up. Then John Parker, Ed Battin delivered a great Mecca set. For the final set from Denis Billingham perfect. Not really for me to review. This is my perspective. Liz Mahoney Kevin McCaffrey Kevin Murphy John Parker and Denis Billingham.  Thank you folks. 😊

    A very tired and satisfied

  10. Tweeked the sound system. Sound quality was near perfect. Typical Soul night error. We forgot to wind up the tone arm on righthand deck. It played a little heavy. 😁. We soon fixed it. Music was excellent, George Falzon warm up was excellent mix, Birthday boy Kevin McCaffrey played a blinder of underplayed. Set the tone, Liz Mahoney warmed up a room building in numbers. Her set was quite exceptional classics, modern and rarely played. Mick Howard didn't disappoint a fantastic set. Then Chris Barr took us through to midnight another great selection. Floor was still busy at just before 1am. Think it says it all.

Thank you from all locations who turned up.

I have not been to a Soul night quite like this. It was electric, Dance floor full all night. Diverse music from guest DJ's and Resident Kev McCaffrey.  Neil Grainger lite the litmus paper. Great mix of rare, classics modern and odd lost gem. Eddie Wainwright was rubbing hands. Wow. Took our Venue to another level. Kieron Taz Robathan continued the theme. Killed old ethos of filling floors with stuff they know. This was new to Lancashire never mind Tiffany's. I guess, it's what can be achieved when allow DJ's to express knowledge.  That is our policy.

End of day. It's why you book them. Fantastic night. Feedback on another level.

Well done all DJs dancers 👏

  11. Not most knowledgeable in terms of Soul Music.  Though my encyclopaedia is gaining strength ! Have couple icons or so where I delve the oracle  . Though my own mind knows and eyes see how scene is split.  Quest for filling pockets   well run Soul Clubs and locations  . Where its about the Soul . Had brief chat with ( Eddie  ) lol Simon 😆  about same last night . Very welcoming 🙏  . Music 🎶 🎵 ⏹  across board on Broad scale . Superb . Sadly my own personal illness prevented staying till end . Missed Mick . Sorry pal . Look forward to your playlist which will enjoy on my own dance floor later . Despite posh toilet upgrade . Lost none of its gritty dark atmospheric harmony . Proper Soul Night . See you all again next Year .

    Keep it up 👏👏👏👏🔝🌟👌
