  1. Thanks for that I didnt know he was from Stoke. I saw him dj a few times in the north west one club in St Helens where he played frankie and johnny when it was huge and also at the Carlton Warrington. Don't know what happend to him after that. I dont recall seeing him at Saints Club St Helens in the 90's. I enjoyed chatting to him as he was always after 60's newies to play when the scene really needed it before Stafford came along.
  2. First time I heard anything by Terry Callier was around 78/79 when a guy called Nick Cowan played "Look at me now" at the Carlton Club in Warrington. It had such an impact on me I found one within a couple of months. Nick was a guest on Terry Lanaines BBC Radio Merseyside's Keep On Trucking show and did a few local clubs back then never heard of him since.
  3. Possibly the Horseshoe or Water Wheel but that was under a huge block of flats.
  4. It was indeed a great night I was pushed right up to the stage by the crowd and she bent down to shake hands with me and few others. I seem to recall she started off with "Forget Me Not" then later eveyone was shouting One Way Out and as mentioned above she did it accapello with the crowd joining in.
  5. Good question but you could ask the same for thousands of Vloggers.
  6. Really enjoyed it Tony. Some fabulous stories too looking forward to the next one.
  7. George Benson at the MEN, Edwin Starr the Ritz and The Exciters Wigan Casino.
  8. I dont know the answer to your question but it's the same reason I stopped attending venues a while ago because the venues near me just played top 500 or nothing new (I mean nothing new 60's wise even though I love modern new). Top 500 is still huge and a massive nostalgia trip so I dont blame folk for attending one bit its not for me anymore, sad for me but the scene thrives on it.
  9. Good point and very important during the wilderness years after Wigan and Stafford for us who didnt get to the 100 club
  10. The ones that kinda stand out for me in that list are Terry Callier. Which I first heard at the Carlton Club in Warrington played by Radio DJ Nick Cowan (where is he now I wonder). I asked who it was and a few months later I picked one up in the record bar at Wigan around 79/80 for £3. Reggie Alexander I think was Keele ? could be wrong tho. Posse, L Alan, Cashmeres all Wigan. Tommy Ridgley Stafford? Donna Coleman Wigan/Stafford? not sure. Ruby Andrews Saints Club St Helens 90's?
  11. Mega tune and an overiding memory of late 70's Wigan. You had a job finding space on the dance floor when Richard dropped this on by Joe Mathews as it was then. No idea what it will go for but worth every last drop for a proper one. There are rarer records not as good for me and cheapies probably as good but this thing has class, provinance and its laid down in stone as an absolute seminal classic.
  12. The first few singles I heard didn't really inspire me that were brought home from Blackpool Mecca by my sister What Kind Of Lady and Pete Warner. Then at school (Pey Guerin) a lad I knew brought in an LP with Tell Me Its Just A Rumour Baby on and another school mate Jimmy lent me Storm Warning and James Carr "Thats what I wanna know". After that I was hooked this was around early 76 and by December I was at my first Wigan nighter.
  13. It was very sad to hear that news. I'm On My Way must have been in the first 20 northern singles I bought all those years ago. A must back then for the newbies like me and to eventually hear at Wigan in the TBE was just amazing. R.I.P
  14. Yet another, Dutton Viaduct near Acton Bridge with the Weaver Navigation running under it. Incidentally, a great location for wild life the odd ship and trains crossing of course.
  15. On the Viaduct theme. This is Chirk Viaduct with Telford and Robertson's efforts side by side.
  16. Yeah this spot isn't far from the Swan and is very popular with rail photographers. Ive had a few shots published taken from here over the years. But I've done it to death now so choose other locations. Thanks. Dave
  17. Indeed they were great all dayers. I think my first one was when Edwin Starr was on 70's and last one was one of the Rarest Of Rare. Those ROTR nighters were bloody brilliant all the big hitters DJ wise and all the Rare stuff you never got to hear played out at your local soul club.
  18. Manchester City the Ritz is just on the left on Whitworth St. Taken from the top of the First St Car Park.
  19. Winwick near Warrington a couple of years ago. Yes another train but that's all I do really lol.
  20. Coryton Cove Dawlish. I'm actually taking a picture of the train.
  21. I recall Ady playing this on Richards radio show one day a long time ago whilst driving and forgot to pull off at traffic lights listening to it. What a tune!
  22. Thats very special. Just made my day man oh man !
  23. A venue I fondly remember attending with Keith bless him. A small dance floor and bar that got full really quickly and the dj in a small booth. Had some good nights there late 70's plus got some nice records of Keith too! I think the last time I attended Nick Cowen was the guest and I went running up to him after he played Terry Callier Look At Me Now to ask him what it was and what label.
  24. At that time we bought records together and somehow got a copy of it on the Soul Galore boot, back in 76' we didnt have a clue about records but we did know it wasnt the original label so that was the driving force to ask the dj to play it so we could find out. On a Wednesday night you only had to be 16 to get in and we were all 15 at the time. Not as busy as the nighter by a long way but a great introduction to learn how to dance and hear great records that your local youth club dj didnt have. We had gone way past the snake, green door and doris troy by then and wanted the real deal and certainly got it back then. I recall hearing Marie Knight and being blown away by it.
  25. Sometime in late 76' during the Wednesday night short Northern Soul sessions at the Casino club. Me and my mate plucked up the courage to ask Stu Brackenridge for Jimmy Mack My World Is On Fire. When he played it we ran up on stage to see the label...Palmer
