  1. Real nice .. I enjoyed that....even without using my crackpipe !.
  2. Another cracking track. I've always loved his earlier work as much as the stuff he was doing in the mid 70's tbh.
  3. Now that ,is amongst the very best of Stevie Wonder's tracks in my opinion.. Top stuff !..
  4. I wholeheartedly approve of this thread ! Coincidentally, I've just spent the last week or so listening to a different Stevie Wonder album everyday .. I nominate 'For Once In My Life' which is my all time favourite SW track. Good luck with the project, @HarryJS
  5. That's great, very impressive ! I'd actually love one of those for myself.. I've just been taking a look at some of the pretty amazing work on the guy's website this morning which is definitely worth checking. http://www.smashedhits.co.uk/phone/index.html Thanks for posting and all the best for your retirement Soulfinger !...
  6. Oh,I did actually read what you said carefully,my apologies if it came across as otherwise and I also thought that what you wrote was a pretty cool critique as it happens. You conveyed the feeling of witnessing a band playing exciting, raw and live music up close even if they were not the originators of the songs they played. As someone who has been a musician for 30 years and also played live shows I can totally relate to that and in fairness I reckon I'd have probably also been blown away by seeing The Rolling Stones in 1963 playing R&B but I wasn't even born then. My criticism was levelled more at what Jagger and The Stones became to represent slightly later in their careers, all of that pompous 'Rock royalty' nonsense ,the truly dreadful misogyny, the atrocious songs they recorded and the whole sycophantic Rock & Roll music industry circus that surrounds, indulges and often excuses the worst behaviour of these people because they're somehow conceived to be deemed worthy of a 'God' type of status because they also, coincidentally just happen to sell millions of records and generate truck loads of cash for their respective record companies.
  7. Personally, I'll never have any respect for Sir Mick Jagger & The Rolling Stones because I hate what they represent..'Rock Royalty' and because they've inspired approximately 754,967 unbelievably bad bar bands. Nothing in the world is worse than a piss-poor cover of “Gimme Shelter.” Well nothing except the sixty bazillion 'real' bands that continue to ape the Stones’ tired and dated aesthetic. There’s a reason no one takes Elvis impersonators seriously... They were also horribly, horribly misogynistic. Entire dissertations have expounded on the overtly sexist, violent, and borderline psychopathic lyrics of songs like “Some Girls,” “Mother’s Little Helper,” “Brown Sugar,” and “Sticky Fingers.” Rather than offer an inclusive revolution, the Stones set back the cause, marginalizing, objectifying, and animalizing women in more creatively sick ways than pretty much anyone else in music. Certain members of the group as individuals leave a lot to be desired in my opinion so let's not even mention Bill's 'special relationship' with Mandy Smith when she was 13 or 14 years old... The bad news? That terrible, cliched rock template they created is very much still around. Mick Jagger is also famous for saying “If I’m singing ‘Satisfaction’ when I’m 40, I’m going to kill myself.” He didn't though. Maybe he actually meant 80? If I ever had the misfortune of meeting Mick Jagger I'd tell him to f..k off too.. Just a casual thought..
  8. Fantastic..that's beautiful. Hehehe . I love the look on it's face..that's a bird on a mission for sure ! Super photo's there mate.
  9. Is that the same Deep Sensation that did the 'Harlem & 42nd Street' track Shufflin ? Its a nice tune. Good choice with Calibro 35' there also btw...I really like some of their music and Record Kicks is a dope record label too ..The Third Coast Kings are a pretty decent band on there with a couple of nice releases which are also worth checking in my opinion.
  10. I dunno mate..no offence Pete but I love the fact that people post up their playlists, personally..some of this stuff is pure sonic gold. One of the main reasons I joined Soul Source is because of the absolute wealth of knowledge that's openly shared on this forum and the potential of discovering music i've not heard about is the best thing I could want from my own point of view as I'm finding new things to listen to almost every time that I visit this site...

  13. What a cool find ...damn ! I got this cd around 2007 which features some of those same artists . Me, jealous ?....hell yes !
  14. that's one serious vocal funk/soul performance, he absolutely puts in a big shift on that track Oh yeah,I think it's a killer performance ..one of my absolute favourite Funky Soul tracks. 'The Baby Huey Story' lp is a terrific record..such a talented artist and a protege of Curtis Mayfield no less...such a shame he threw his talent away to heroin and lost his life at the age of just 26. The album was eventually released posthumously which is doubly sad. If he had lived I reckon he could have been absolutely phenomenal. what a waste.
  15. It's Frank's son, Steve Strazzeri who plays on 'After The Rain' and yeah he's a damn fine drummer as you mentioned.
  16. I absolutely love that track Jimmy ! Frank Strazzeri's 'After The Rain' lp which Cloudburst is taken from is a glorious record ..I've got a very nice Japanese reissue of it from around 2000/01 and it sounds awesome. I didn't know anything about Frank Strazzeri tbh but I liked Cloudburst so much I took a chance on the album ..top notch it is too, reminds me a lot of the type of great Jazz Fusion records Eddie Henderson was knocking out in the mid 1970's for Blue Note in particular.
  17. Yes, I have all of the albums by Mandingo plus some other things by Geoff Love that I've used for sampling in my own tunes..there's a couple of his tracks that have some very nice drum breaks on them . Drum breaks on records ,now that is a subject very close to my heart, I can happily spend hours chopping ,slicing and looping them to create dusty funked up madness for some intense freestyle sampler jamming sessions ! It drives my missus nuts sometimes but I've explained very nicely to her that this is why Netflix was invented ( she took this rather well I thought under the circumstances) so she can like it or lump it basically hehe.
  18. No, it's just the typical sort of stuff that gets played every Saturday night round here but I never record mixes anymore these days ..you've given me the idea that maybe I should though...more drinking time, less fiddling about with records hehe ! Yeah, the Mandingo stuff is great , Funky and cool sounding. I picked up the 'Primeval Rhythm Of Life' lp around 20 odd years ago in a charity shop for literally pennies and took it home not expecting anything spectacular and was totally blown away by how good it was...all of the Mandingo albums are terrific in my opinion and the fact that Mandingo was actually the brainchild of the Easy Listening band leader, the one and only Geoff Love makes it even more surprising just how good those lp's are to say the least. The trendy hipsters don't seem to have picked up on these particular albums yet for whatever reason so you can still grab them really cheaply from places like Discogs etc.
  19. Still feeling the effects of last nights shenanigans and 'bold behaviour' somewhat ,hehe but here's what was spinning from around midnight til 2 a.m.......erm...ish.. hic! 20. Yeah, you gotta love Isaac..so much dopeness from one man shouldn't be possible ! The 'To Be Continued' album is his masterpiece for me..I can get totally lost and absorbed in that record..the production is like some sonic gold type shiz... Just so damn good.
  21. That's both the beauty and the curse of the analogue tape format as a recording medium,,if you you can catch a good live performance within the first couple of takes you're mostly home and dry but the more you overdub the more the recording obviously degrades sonically. There was only so many times you could 'bounce' the audio on those old 2.or 4 track recording consoles unfortunately. I've actually been transfering some of the Soul and Funk records I own recently which have a lower quality of audio into these machines here which allow me to clean up and boost the signal by adding nicer sounding E.Q's, compression and effects like hard stereo panning into the mix. These samplers also have a very cool vinyl simulator algorithm which does some pretty incredible things to drums and vocals especially....you can even add in a bit of some vinyl crackle if you want it! .. I usually then master the recordings by mixing into or through this Yamaha 4 track recorder to either chrome cassette or a Sony Mini Disc player if I want a digital copy that I can also duplicate to cd or a laptop for example . The end results have been really nice and it has brought some of these recordings a new lease of life in my opinion with a much nicer clarity of sound to them and which has also greatly increased my appreciation of these records too . I do really genuinely love a lot of old, scruffy and emotionally raw sounding music,Northern Soul in particular but if the performers could have had access to even a tenth of the modern recording technology that I just have in my admittedly modest home studio then lord knows how truly amazing those records would have sounded.
  22. @ the O.P. It's called 'Double Tracking' Or more often as Chalky said also simply known as 'overdubbing'. It's used mostly for recording multiple vocal or guitar parts generally, it's also used to help bolster the mids and high frequencies and fatten up a mix especially in modern Rock where a lot of compression is usually applied to the music being recorded.
  23. Yeah, as Mickey mentioned the early stuff is the best. I'd definitely recommend the first 3 Chocolate Milk lps for you Jimmy, they're all pretty decent.Theres also a couple of compilation lp's available too, which are 'Ice Cold Funk' & another just called 'The Best Of Chocolate Milk'. Glad you liked the playlist btw !
