  1. Really nice to hear this. I remember you saying a while ago how much you'd like to have a dog of your own,Pete. He looks like he will be a terrific companion, all the best to the both of you, mate!
  2. Soul, 60s to late 70's-definitely not interested in the 80s type of stuff and the same thing goes for rare Funk records. I'm also an absolute sucker for 70s Blaxplotation movie soundtracks and own loads of them ,some are incredibly good and it's a bit of a shame they're not better known in my opinion..take something like J.J. Johnson's score for 'Willie Dynamite' for example-terrific stuff! Oh and anything with interesting drum breaks that I can sample and chop up for my own production and recordings..again, I have a serious nerd/geek problem in trying not to obtain them and i have literally hundreds of these type of records on my shelves.
  3. And it all started off so well with the best of intentions on Friday evening to get out and see some live music with friends who we're visiting and then the entire weekend somehow mysteriously vanished...
  4. Many moons ago when I met my missus I used to play Timi Yuro's 'It'll Never Be Over For Me' amongst other things which she'd not heard before. About a year after we met the record was playing and she turned around and said "You know what,I love this song and that guy can really sing ..the more I hear his voice, the more I like it"! Hehehe -she had no idea whatsoever that Timi was in fact, actually a girl...

    RIP Aretha

This image just sums it up for me. Lost in the sheer joy of music.

    RIP Aretha

That is one truly fitting statement.Brilliantly put,Steve.Very fine words indeed. Again, well said Dave. I wanted to add that for me personally, the first time I heard Aretha's 'Lady Soul' lp in the mid 80's I was totally blown away by how amazing her voice was and the fantastic arrangements of the tracks. I'd heard her songs on the radio but I didn't listen to much Soul back then,I was into other things, but that album in particular was a real turning point for me. Her music also represents things I feel strongly about in the world of music, such as the importance of church music/gospel in the development of soul music - put simply, its where so many artists learnt to 'sing it like they mean it'. That and music as a conduit for bringing people together. I listened to 'Lady Soul' very recently and I'm happy to say it still gives me the chills..the record is a true triumph of artistry. Obviously her output is vast, so much good stuff for people to listen to and discover and as much as her work oozes Soul there's actually little bits of country, rock, pop and all sorts in there. Proving as ever that genres mean nothing really and good music is simply good music.

  9. Or those pesky Russians...
  10. Did Gordon Giltrap play 'Heartsong' Mal ?..I absolutely love that track and the Perilous Journey lp were both a massive influence on me when I first started out on the acoustic guitar as a teenager. Love the photo's btw !
  11. Hello and welcome to the site Soulestekft !
  12. Took my youngest son to work with me today. Private job..no hard hat required !
  13. Atomic Rooster-Made In England, 1972 Dawn Records. Limited edition denim sleeve. I found a copy of this record for around a tenner several years ago, tbh its not my cup of tea music wise but it does have a couple of decent breaks on it at least which was the main reason I purchased it, along with a sneaky suspicion that it was probably worth more than I paid for it (which it was) I held on to the album and sold it recently for over ten times what I'd originally splashed out for it. Happy days indeed..
  14. I bought this on the day it was released in November 1979. it's also one of the very few albums I've ever queued up to buy before the store opened for business. Public Image Limited-Metal Box John Lydon had auditioned for the role of Jimmy in Quadrophenia ,he didnt get the part but received a copy of his audition in a film canister, which is how the idea for the three 12'' records in a metal box concept came about .
  15. I picked this up a few years ago. Pink Floyd -Dark Side Of The Moon picture disc 1978 (U.S.) I collect compilations of tracks with Drum Breaks for sampling, both official and unofficial releases, some of them aren't particularly valuable but there's loads I can't even find online anymore as so few copies were pressed which is a shame as they're rammed with amazing grooves. Things like this mostly, although both of these are actually available on Discogs. Beyond The Valley Of The Beats. Beyond The Valley Of The Ultrabeats. I've got the two original pressings of The Cenobites (Kool Keith & Godfather Don) EP's The Cenobites & Demented Thoughts, limited to 300 & 200 copies respectively, both are highly sought by Hip Hop collectors now. I have a massive collection of 70s & 80's Porno film Soundtracks (but no actual porn,alas)... I also own a copy of 'Call Me !, I'm Hot, Horny and Barely Legal Breaks' by The Wax Fondler which is 2 sides of just sounds of women 'moaning' and is rather excellent for scratching on the decks with (when the missus has gone out obviously).. Unfortunately (or rather fortunately) I cant show the cover of that one on here....you can Google at your own risk !. @Stevegods, the Fat Boys Pizza Box is wicked , never seen that one before!.
  16. I'll stick my neck out here and say that isn't a mellotron on the recording. As someone who listens to tons of 70s Prog Rock recordings that feature the mellotron, it just doesn't sound quite right to me . I could be totally wrong of course but I really don't think that's the same instrument. Lovely track though,Damian !
  17. Dopeness ! Mine for today.
