Uk Sue Demos ?
As for the Soul City Demos; Now you mention it, I've seen a black and white Major Lance SC114, a LONG time ago. But, what about the Valentinos Demo? I've defo seen one and an old friend of mine has one. The tri-centre Sue 301 looks cool.

Uk Sue Demos ?
Hi Dave, Can't see the example of the 'reduced in price' record? Unless you mean the white Island one with 3/- stamp? If so, that's not what I was on about. What I was talking about is a black 'A' about 3/4" in size, rubber stamped onto the label. I'll try and post up an example when I get home.

Uk Sue Demos ?
A very interesting report and thanks for posting that up Dave. I would, however, like to make a small contribution in regard to UK Sue Demos. My understanding, if memory serves me well, is from many years ago and from Brian Rae, who was a UK Sue label distributor here in the North way back then. He told me that UK Sue Demos were simply stamped with a fairly small black capitol 'A'. I have two or three of these, and until he told me otherwise, always thought they represented the A-side of the record. So, pick the bones out of that one, and with luck, it may turn out to be true. I suppose we could ask Brian Rae to confirm or deny my suggestion. I hope he confirms it to be true, otherwise I may need to book an appointment with my local GP for tests on possible memory loss / distortion. As for the 4 Soul City Demos, which were just black and white plus a small black capitol 'A', I didn't know there were just 4. The ones I know of are; Valentinos - a friend of mine has this one Shirley Lawson - saw one of these some years ago Billy Preston - the one I have Is the 4th one Chuck Edwards? Have a feeling I've seen one of these in black and white too.

The Sink Soul Club
The Sink Club promoters / DJs regret to announce that they will not be holding any future nights at the Cabin Club, Liverpool. This is mainly due to a change of policy by the Cabin Club management with regard to entry to the club, which is unacceptable to the Sink Club promoters. The Sink Club promoters would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported them during their brief spell at the Cabin Club. If, in the future, the Sink Club promoters find a more suitable venue, then information will be posted up here on Soul Source.

Plas Johnson - Downstairs - Captiol
Buy the Lp I told you about. There's nothing uncool about walking around clutching Lps under your arm. In fact, in my day, it was cool to do so. Especially with the top cover exposed to show off what you were into. It was the lugging around of the then, so-called, 'portable' record player that was the pain in the arse . . . .

Ko Ko Taylor On Uk Sonet
Nowhere near as good as Big Maybelle's version but not bad. Kinda low production, jazzy, almost cabaret version with a decent sax player. I'm looking to pick one up cheap to fill a hole in my UK Sonet label collection.

Seen A Few Wants For This - Clarence Murray
There's one for 'Sale' at £162 on some website, which might equate to $300 I haven't checked. But that's just the 'asking' price, not what it's 'worth'. The fact it's still for sale on that website speaks volumes. Who knows what it's truly 'worth'. All's I can say about the record, apart from it being a nice catchy tune and that I have one, is that it's hard to find, especially an issue.

Me too on the KoKo Taylor . . . . . . . but only after 'rekorder' is sorted

You mean you sent it straight 'Signed For' without insurance cover on top for at least the value of the contents?

Nicky James 'so Glad We Made It' Philips Uk
The Calum Bryce is a Mod / Psych thing. Sold it for £500 a few years back. Not a bad profit eh? Seen a couple go since then for around £600 to £700!!!

Yes, that's very true. Which suited me fine, as I was a UK label only collector. Picked up Paula Parfit myself, along with little gems like John Andrews on Parlophone, Calum Bryce Demo on Conder, Tiny Topsy on Pye International and Parlophone, etc. All for 10p each. Aaaah, them were the days.

Yes, but your original quote from Royal Mail; "Unfortunately we can't accept claims where the problems were caused by another postal operator or other third party" gives them a get-out clause should they wish to use it, therebu slope shouldering the problem back onto us. That's not a 'service'. It shouldn't be like that. They should offer a service, for which we pay a fee, after which we shouldn't have to worry about a thing. That's what insurance is all about. Seems to me that Royal Mail would like to have their cake and eat it too, when it suits them.

We used to shop around Liverpool together most weekends. I remember him having one copy, not two. Not saying he didn't have two, just that I didn't know he had two. We toyed with the idea of getting it played on the Northern scene back in the early 70s but somehow never got round to it.

Ditto. Picked two copies up for 10p each on one of my regular trips around the 2nd hand record shops of Liverpool during the early to mid 70s.

What a load of bollocks. How can a company like Royal Mail advertise a service called 'International Signedfor' then deny all responsibility after it leaves our shores. They should be done under the trades description act. They should honour what they are selling and if anything goes wrong, pay up, then argue their case with the overseas postal service to claim back their losses, not slope shoulder the problem onto us. It should be a door to door service, NOT a door to shore service.

Yes, I've experienced that once or twice. But on the whole, doesn't work that well here in Europe. Some of the countries here have woeful tracking systems, if any at all.

Yeah, you got that right!!!

No, never!!! Not that I'm aware of anyway.

Yeah, but you live in Germany. Take it from me, you wouldn't get away with it here in the UK!!!

Losing 45`s In The Post
Yeah, this always pisses me off. Why the hell do they insist on putting the value of the contents of the package on the outside for all to see. It's like a big advert telling everybody, HEY, LOOK AT ME, MY CONTENTS ARE WORTH £XXX AMOUNT OF MONEY, WHY DON'T YOU STEAL ME!!!

But Sebastian was correct when he said that the 'International Signedfor' system strangely only tracks to our shoreline. After that it's taken over by the country of intended destination. So, if a record goes missing, or turns up damaged, who does the sender claim from? Is it the Royal Mail or the postal service of the country it was sent to? I mean, do the Royal Mail compensate you then take up the matter with the postal service of the destination country? Or do they tell you it's not their problem after it left our shores? Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Has anybody got a definitive answer to this quandary?
