  6. I have and they are different. Subtle but different.
  7. Well, I'm looking at both copies as we 'speak' and the runout space is definitely larger on the instrumental. But I agree, it's not a massive runout on the instrumental like you'd imagine, what with it being at least 30 seconds shorter.
  8. You can actually tell the difference by looking at how much space the grooves take up on the record. The instrumental, being at least 30 seconds shorter than the vocal, takes up noticeably less space. In other words, the runout space is larger on the instrumental. So Pete is nearly correct, you do need both versions side by side to tell the difference without playing the record. Having said that, there is also a way of telling the difference between the two by looking at the numbers in the runout grooves.
  9. Are you talking about a black Chess label Mick? If so, what release number? Can you remember who has those two copies?
  10. So, what's your conclusion Robb? Also noticed that the X20X's have two parallel horizontal lines, at least mine do, where the X20's only have the one. Looking closer at the label, the X20X's don't have the same 'quality' of style and manufacture as the X20's either. There's something different that's hard to describe about the X20X's
  11. I'll go with that Robb, well thought out and backed with research
  12. Cool. Thanks Robb.
  13. I was hoping you'd know Robb. Let's hope the thread lasts long enough for more people to see it and perhaps let us know who that vocalist is with the Jesse Powell Orchestra.
  14. I see. Well I'll get them to you asap.
  15. Will do Rob (by PM) but I'm already convinced, from what I'm looking at here, that the one with the extra X is a later pressing.
  16. Hmmm, okay, thanks Sebastian. If you ever find out, please let me know.
  17. Sebastian, Have you got a scan of the B-side on Fling? Because I'm wondering who the vocalist is, as Jesse Powell was the Orchestra behind the vocal. And Kingfish Rock was an instrumental.
  18. Dave, what has 'Mule Train' got to do with this posting?
  19. Well thanks again Sebastian. Well done. PS - Now take a look at my post about Nappy Brown and see if you agree? PPS - Where is your record store?
  20. Having taken a closer look at the labels, I've noticed a subtle difference or two that lead me to believe that the copy with the extra X is in fact an official repress / reissue by Savoy. I could be wrong but I'll need convincing otherwise.
  21. That's EFFING brilliant Sebastian, thanks VERY MUCH. How do you know all this stuff? I've been meaning to ask this for ages but do you have all these records you so neatly post up for us on SS? Or are you more into the researching and cataloging of these records for posterity and self interest? Dennis.
  22. My glass 'was' half full but is 'now' half empty, time for a top up. Oh, and the records both sound the same, look the same, are the same . . . . . except for that extra / one less X.
  23. Very true. But is there a reason?
  24. Okay everybody, problem solved. How did I not not spot that myself? Seriously though, why the extra X?
  25. Can anybody help?
