Okay. Good reaction. Couple of points however; 1. I said right from the start that this was in no way a swipe at John Manship, in fact I've already said that he and his staff do a wonderful job of making all this information available to us all. For which I am very grateful. He doesn't have to do it but he does, for the love of the music. So once again, I congratulate John Manship and his staff. And lets face it, we couldn't have this discussion if they weren't there, could we? 2. In a way, I'm quite pleased that a lot of these rare records are crap. Up until now I thought I was missing out on something but I'm not. And it also means that I can sift through the few that I DID like and despite their rarity, stand a chance of getting a few, providing of course I can come up with the dosh, or cunjure up some remarkable good luck. Imagine how I'd feel if ALL the records on the Rarest of the Rare were brilliant, that would be disheartening as a collector, I wouldn't stand a dogs chance of collecting them all would I? As it stands, I feel the few that I really liked could be within grasp before I snuff it. Mind you, I'd have to sell a few out of my collection to fund the quest, my wages will never go THAT far. 3. Once I've been through the whole of the Rarest of the Rare list, just to satisfy my curiosity, as Mark Bicknell pointed out, I will be going through everything else on his site that offers a soundbyte because therein lie the true quality Soul and R&B records, many of which are latent monsters and as yet undiscovered gems of the future. Thanks for reading my views everybody and for your feedback, the posting was well worth the effort.

Not much more to say than that really. And don't just come back at me with the comment, "They're rare". Elaborate. No offence to John, I respect the guy enormously, this is not a swipe at him or his site and all the hard work put in by himself and his hard working staff, just the ever growing list of so-called rare records that are listed. But let's be honest now, a lot of them are really crap aren't they and must only be there simply 'cos they're rare, but not necessarily good? I mean, perhaps they're rare because they were crap when they first came out and all but a few somehow escaped getting binned, trashed, melted down, burnt at the stake, etc, which makes those that are left, RARE. Has anybody gone through the whole lot and actually listened to them all? I've been doing so for a few nights now and am so far very disappointed. NOT at all the hard work John has put into populating the list and making it available for us all to see and listen to, but by what is considered good enough to be included in the list. There, I'd better stop now before I go too far and inadvertantly offend somebody with my own personal opinions and observations. Just thought I'd share that thought with you all to see what kind of feedback / reaction I get. Forums are about stimulating thought and opinions. Lets have some.

Looks good, yeah. You sure they won't ship abroad? Think it says, Free shipping is only available within the 48 contiguous United States. Which suggests, if you're prepared to pay for shipping then . . . . ???
-
In that case, can I have your Grapevine copy? And don't worry, the feeling of feelin old only gets worse
-
BTW, is there any other way of getting it on a 45? Or perhaps on an Lp? Don't like CDs!!!
-
When and where did you get it for a tenner. Not that I'm expecting to do the same, just out of sheer curiosity . . . . and to rub salt into my already gaping wound!!!
-
Hi Des, Thanks for the info. Do you still have it and if so, can I purchase it from you?
-
Hi everybody, Can anybody tell me about; Sonja Clay - Deeper In My Heart. What label is it on and release number and is it possible to grab a copy, or is it one of these high price 45s?
-
Was this ever released, either 45 or Lp track? If so, what on? Where can I get a copy? What's it worth?
-
Now there you go you see. One of the many virtues of collecting issues. In this particular case you'd be hard pushed to produce a boot of an ABC Paramount issue. Demos are all well and good but give me an issue everytime. For me, they are often much more colourful, and much more authenticateable. (See, making up my own words now. ) Never really understood the fascination with Demos, even the English / UK stuff.
-
So how do you find that out Pete. And if the guy wants to, can't he just lie about it being there and blame it all on confusion later? And should that Delta number be impressed or scratched?
-
Would any of you say that either of the two on popsike are boots? 'Cos they are both different to each other and different again to the one on eBay. How can you ever be sure? I've seen plenty of issues and demos of all kinds of imports that all have subtle differences. They must get pressed all over the place and every presser seems to have a slightly different label design. Very confusing, which is why I think, many many years ago, I decided that it was safer just to collect UK releases only. Sadly, that has changed after realising that most of what I want now never ever saw the light of day over here, even as obscure Lp tracks. Incidentally, just showing my ignorance of Northern stuff on US labels here now, but did this ever get issued, or are they all Demos?

Hi phild, Do you have General Johnson - 'Gods Gift To Man' amongst that lot of test pressings and quality control presses (from Capitol Record pressing, Sonic productions etc etc) including a number of unreleased items? If so, can I buy it from you? DENBO.
-
Thanks LarsC, but I don't think I fully understood what you said. When you said "If you're lucky there's a testpress or european issue floating around, it has happened before with this label." did you mean there IS a testpress or european issue floating around, or did you mean there MIGHT be a testpress or european issue floating around? Just want to be FULLY clear about this before I start building my hopes up. Cheers matey, DENBO.

Hi LarsC, Unfortunately, I cannot help you with any of the above BUT you might be able to help ME, especially seeings how you collect Invictus. Can you tell me if General Johnson - Gods Gift To Man came out on a 45? Either as a regular release, or as a withdrawn single sided or same sided Demo, whatever? Thanks in advance, Denbo.

PinkyPerky Thanks very much indeed for the Captions soundbyte. Any chance you wanna sell it, that is if it's a 'hardcopy' and not a 'soundbyte'? Anytime. Just let me know.
-
Hi, Thanks very much indeed. You don't have a recording the flipside too do you??? Please please please :o)

Hi Folks, Me again. I'm thinking of going to work in Houston, Texas for about 6 months and wondered if there was anybody out there on this Forum that could recommend some good shops / places / people in the area that I could go visit / see for records at the weekends? Thanks.
