Would like to wholeheartedly thank everybody who turned up to our 3rd ‘Soul On Sunday’ (SoS) at the Windleshaw Sports / FC St.Helens Club function room yesterday (9th Feb). The place filled up very early and it was our best yet, with a friendly atmosphere all afternoon from 3 to 8pm. Was great to see a good number of new faces, including Boopa, and a contingent from Runcorn who helped keep the dance floor busy a good portion of the time. The DJs Ron Honey, Jimmy Pilkington, Dennis Haw & Chisser played a varied mixture of early Soul, R&B, Northern Soul and some favourite Club Classics to a very responsive crowd. We’re hoping to see you all again next month on the 8th March, both regulars and new faces alike. Here’s a few photographs taken close to the end of thafternoon’.

Please let us know if you're able to attend by 'tapping' the 'Going' box in the right hand column of this page, it helps us promote the event, especially in its early stage as we attempt to introduce the event and its new location. Cheers.

Looking forward to my first DJing spot here at this new venue of ours in Dentons Green, St.Helens. It's a cozy little place and seating is at a premium, so I'd advise you all to come early. There is free off-street parking, which can be accessed on the left hand side of Windleshaw Road, opposite No.19

Wanted - Sailor Vernon's Sailor's Delight Magazines
Denbo replied to Denbo's topic in General Sales & Wants
Just need issue No.1 now -
Might have a few cassette tapes of the show myself somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them out. I used to accompany Nick to some of Terrys' earlier radio broadcasts and actually sat in on a few of them, I might have even grunted the odd comment or two about the records and artists being played at the time but was very much in the background.

Thanks for that Carl. Turns out my friend's copy has no stamp, Bestway or Bell Sounds, so I'm going to advise him that his copy is a repress, albeit one of a limited number. He's no interest in selling it but who wouldn't be tempted by the price an original copy could fetch these days
-
I've tried that already Carl and they're too similar to tell any difference, except, as you'd expect, the repress / reissue looks cleaner. I've subsequently been advised by a highly respected dealer to look out for a Bell Sound matrix stamp on the original, albeit very light. I'm assuming that means the repress doesn't have that stamp. Hopefully, I'll get to examine my friend's copy over the weekend to see what he's got, fingers crossed for good news

How can you tell the difference between the original on Kyser and the limited repress, also on Kyser? Literally asking for a friend, I kid you not.

Okeh Records - A Pictorial Discography - Out Now
Denbo commented on okehgaz's article in News Archives
Here we go. I for one have never seen one before and was wondering how common or rare they might have been? -

I have indeed and it's on it's way in the post as we speak, it's an early American Okeh 45 with an integral tri-centre. I'll post it up as soon as it arrives. Got it off a good friend who knows how much I like oddities like this. PS - As well as the UK Columbia EPs with the 4 pronged push-outs, there is of course the 45rpm singles as well. -

Do any of the images in this book show any American Okeh 45s with an integral tri-centre? -
Jimmy Norman - I Don't Love You No More - Soul Sound versus Little Star Has anybody noticed how the Soul Sound release credits Jimmy Norman as having written it, whereas the Little Star release credits H.B. Barnum? How can this be? They're both exactly the same cuts of the song. PS - Is the Soul Sound release the local label, before being issued on the bigger label Little Star?

Does he still add to his blog John. Plus, I'm sure he appeared at one of our Sink events about 4 or 6 months ago, unless I was imagining it
-
Thanks for that. Yes, I noticed the Live Shows listed on 45cat when I linked Sonny Childe with The Elders Consolidated. As for your comment "Is it a known song (A THING CALLED LOVE) or a new tune with a previously used title?", I don't know the answer to either of those questions?
-
No, that's good info Rich, thanks for that. Would love to know more about this record though, it's pretty good too
-
Can anybody shed any light on this white label record / 'test pressing'? There is the following matrix in the deadwax on the other side, which is by The Elders Consolidated; DS/W-170-1
