Soul Sam @ St Ives All-nighter 1977/78 LIVE TAPE
Soulstrutter replied to Soulstrutter's topic in All About the SOUL
Would date be about right then .. 77/78? -
Found this recently on Soundcloud. This is NOT my tape it was recorded/posted by 'old soulie' but brings back many memories of many nights spent there. I'm guessing late '77 early '78 from the sounds but thought St Ives closed late 77 but I believe there were some all-nighters in 78? NOTE The recording seems to run a tad slow to my ears. 00:00 Bernie Williams - Ever Again [Bell] 01:24 Sequins / Cheryl Ann - Too Much Lovin' / I Can't Let Him [Patty] 03:54 Richard 'Popcorn' Wylie - Rosemary What Happened [Karen] 06:57 Mary Saxton - Take My Heart [Quality] 09:20 Cody Michaels - 7 Days 52 Weeks [Merben] 12:23 Paula Durante - You're Not My Kind [GJM] 14:18 J.D. OK here ya go! remember this being done as an instrumental by Biddu Orch 1976! ... and what about 'Temptation' also from same LP (and French EP only) not be be confused with Temptation's 'Bout To Get Me.
-
I went through a big Billy Stewart phase 20 odd years ago and bought everything I found by him ... many whilst working in Utrecht which had some good records shops on the canal ... dead cheap and many on Dutch only pic sleeves! I don't think many of his records are worth big money but I don't buy records for their value but for their quality.
-
What about this lesser known(?) one ... LP only from One More Time 1988 (double LP) presumably previously unreleased at the time Golly Golly Gee (but don't let the 'twee' title put you off it's a fab crossover track

A great double-sider from 1969 I'm In Love (Oh, Yes I Am) / Crazy 'Bout You Baby Don't be fooled by long intro on I'm In Love as it kicks in after 50 secs P.S. covered in 1974 by Little Melvin & The Boleros on flip to Jealous Lover here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NndBkImtCpA

... and can't believe no one has posted his storming version of Summertime: After first 40 secs you get (blurry) live footage.

Don't think this has been posted yet (apologies if it has) How Nice It Is from 1965:

In my experience ebay/Paypal generally sides with the buyer when there's a dispute even in 'buyer remorse' cases! ... as Jnixon states they can return it within 14 days ... impulsive buyers just waste everyone's time. It doesn't look like the winning bidder made any other bids on it so perhaps bid at last minute without checking thinking they'd get it cheap. To be fair to seller it did start at £5 and didn't state it was original so common sense would tell you it can't be an original when with a quick check on Discogs the median price for an original is £600 and the bootleg is also listed.
-
Not sure there can be any comeback as It doesn't state that it's an original ... or a bootleg so anyone with any sense should assume it's a boot unless claimed to be original and even then you should do your homework before bidding. 'Every minute there is one born' ... somehow thinking/hoping they're getting a bargain. FFS an original goes for 4 times that amount! rat / smell comes to mind! The winning bidder had a ebay rating of 13541 .. so you would have thought they know what they were doing???? P.S. I don't even rate the record TBH ... can't stand popcorn!

If anyone is interested in listening to Mr. River album ... which is hip-hop ... but each track has an interesting selection of underlying samples of rare 60s/70s tunes. it's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub5QKEPwIZs 01/ Samples from Sound In Space LP: Skitch Henderson And His Orchestra - A Study in Moe's Art & Ken Nordine - Diane 02/ Donald Jenkins - A New World Beautiful 03/ Whispers - Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong 04/ Debbie Taylor - I Don't Wanna Leave 05/ Ex Saveyons - Where Do I Go From Here 06/ The Mad Lads - What Love Will Tend To Make You Do 07/ Intruders - To Be Happy Is The Real Thing 08/ Trammps - Down Three Dark Streets 09/ Debbie Taylor - Let's Prove Them Wrong 10/ Lamont Dozier - All Cried Out 11/ Isley Bros - Who's That Lady [1964 United Artists version] 12/ Vanguards - It's Too Late For Love 13/ The Magnificent Men - Peace Of Mind 14/ The Harlem Meat Company - I'm Not Gonna Be Anybody's Fool 15/ Sequins - Must Be Love 16/ Bobby Womack - I'm Through Trying To Prove Me Love To You 17/ Jo Ann Garrett - I've Gotta Be Loved 18/ J.J. Just found this: https://genius.com/The-marvelettes-its-too-late-to-start-all-over-lyrics "Using a modified version of a previously issued music track ‘Suspicion’, these song lyrics were concieved and written by myself in June and July 2017. Recorded on 21st September 2017, and remains unissued." Mick Holdsworth

What's the story on this track? Never heard it and doesn't appear to be listed anywhere - unreleased? acetate? on CD of unreleased stuff?
-
I'll try that line on the Mrs ... and see if I get anywhere
-
Not credited on label ... but there is backing from someone. He was backed by Delighters before and after this recording and also the Daylighters (name change?) There is one 45 from 65 where he's backed by Heart & Soul ... I don't even pretend to know the answer.

Hi Ady ... many thanks for identifying this The pleasant outcome is that it's a cheapie. What a tune!
-
Came across this which poster can't identify (must be off tape/cd with no tracklist) Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm guessing it must be reasonably well known in lowrider community as it has literally just been sampled by Mr. River on their new album Ol' Longo released on Jan 14th on a track called Soul Lingo. But I've no idea who it is. Ignore the video images as it holds no clue to identity There doesn't seem to be any repeated line to even have a guess at the title. apart from 'Ooh wee' or 'baby, baby, baby'

He ain't buying .... his mate is selling one and wanted to know going rate! 'Marmite' record IMHO love it or hate it. I certainly wouldn't part with that sort of money for it!

Seen this before .... it's comedy genius ... love it! Who did it? I seem to remember there were others going around at the same time. -
Neal Not sure what the question is here .... which is why you've had no responses!!!!

If it's the track about 48 mins in it's Dynamic Superiors - Looking Away from 1976 LP You Name It P.S. The Dells tracks is called Life Is The Time (not It's Your Life) from 1976 LP One Way Back

You might get more help if you provide links and the time that the track you want to find occurs in the podcast

Edward Armstead Jr. AKA Eddie Hill RIP
Soulstrutter replied to Blackpoolsoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Thanks for that - just looked it up on Ace/Kent site and this is an extract from Ady's notes on the CD release: " Having periodically given the Joe Matthews and Eddie Hill tracks featured here a spin on the ole DAT machine and having seen them listed in the Westbound discography, I’m afraid I took them rather for granted as staple Detroit soul releases. In researching this CD further it transpired that the tracks had probably never made it to vinyl, though there is a possibility Joe Matthews’ may have been on a test pressing or demo that has never turned up. That gives this release more importance because these are very good tracks from important local artists, that virtually nobody will have previously heard; as are others featured here." https://acerecords.co.uk/westbound-detroit-northern-soul
