I take your point .... but she/they are sticking their necks out at those prices ... perhaps not for CD as only 50 but makes them very expensive outside US with US postage rates. If you like the track enough you'll buy it for $2 but probably only buy the tracks you like rather than whole album. The CD may be 'collectible' in a few years but mp3 will NEVER be collectible.
-
Snooze you lose ... sold ,out already!!!! What's the back story of this release as there's a posing of it from 2012 here. So it's been 'known' a while.
-
Chalky's right 'Dear God' indeed !!!!! $25 for CD (plus ridiculous US postal rates) and $15 for download for 8 tracks when most downloads are normally no more than 99p each!!! You CAN buy tracks individually for $1.99 each ... to be honest the 2 tracks you've highlighted are the only 2 decent tracks (granted after only a very quick whizz through).

I wouldn't underestimate it ... nice bit of UK indie modern soul from 1990 that got to #14 in UK pop chart ... but this is on first indie label (Konga Dance before Talkin' Loud) set up in 1976 by his father for mainly reggae releases. There's literally hundreds of them available on Discogs ... but only 4 on this label and one seller has priced a NM one at £80! ... but then there's a VG for £13!!!! ... go figure?

Soul Sam @ St Ives All-nighter 1977/78 LIVE TAPE
Soulstrutter replied to Soulstrutter's topic in All About the SOUL
Thanks for confirming when St Ives ended as couldn't recall exactly .... but didn't they run a few all-nighters / all-dayers in 1978 also after it had 'officially' closed? Servicemen still one of my favourites .... hasn't been 'hampered' by being in Top 500 .... although it should have been! Apparently only 200 'originals' believed to have been pressed. The last one I can find that sold listed on Popsike (Feb 2018) was autographed by Larry Banks and sold for £866 (which seems quite cheap to me for such a rare record and also signed by one of the members (if of course the signature is legit) ?) https://www.popsike.com/Northern-Soul-45-SERVICEMEN-Are-You-Angry-WIND-HIT-HEAR/323064650227.html UPDATE found this great article by Chalky: ... and another Servicemen thread here: -

This is the rarer 557 release with Having So Much Fun not the 509 release with Funky Funky Twist on flip. There are 2 different mixes of the 509 release but I'm not sure which mix the 557 is ... is it the more mellow mix with piano (blue 509) vs organ mix (green 509)? UPDATE Found 557 mix on JM's YouTube and can confirm it is the same as the 509 green mix ... so it's the Having So Much Fun track probably more than First taste Of Hurt that's pushed demand? Here's the blue mix 509 version for compariosn:

Here's one possibly(?) not that well known that he wrote for Marvin Gaye for his unreleased 1972 LP I'm Your Man (released posthumously in 2019) 'I'm Gonna Give You Respect' - Willie also recorded it and it was released on Expansion compilation (only?) 'Try It You'll Like It' in 2003. It also features on G.C. Cameron's debut solo LP Love, Songs & Other Tragedies (with a few other Hutch penned songs) in 1974 (with Marvin & Willie on backing vocals)

.... yeah hard to choose from his Motown 70s albums ... but my top 3 (with top tracks): 1975 - Ode To My Lady: Since I Found You Everything's Alright / The Way We Were / Talk To Me / Just Another Day 1977 - Havin' A House Party: After Love Is Gone / I Never Had It So Good / Soul Strut / Train Of Love / What You Gonna Do After The Party 1978 - In Tune: Paradise / Anything Is Possible If You Believe In Love / Easy Does It ... but of course many other tracks from his other albums ... perhaps Motown neglected to promote his material owing to his writing/production duties? ...as for me he is up there with Gaye/Mayfield/Hutson/Hathaway ... but he doesn't seem to get as much recognition as his work deserves!
-
... You're right as it's on flip to 'Everybody Needs Money' issues only ... most available seem to be same-sided promos without this side. It's the best track on the disappointing 'Midnight Dancer' album from 79 consisting of mainly 'disco' tracks ... he moved back to Motown after this LP and didn't release another album until 85 but in the interim had his first UK hit (#51) (of only 2) with 'In And Out' 45/12'' only (12'' had Brothers Gonna Work It Out' on flip whilst 45 had The Girl (Can't Help It)). His only other UK charting single (#73) was Keep On Jammin' in 1985. Unfortunately his career seemed to fade after this releasing 2 albums in 90s and one in 2002 none of which (for me) came anywhere near the quality of his 70s output.
-
... and surprised to discover that he also wrote Steve Flanagan's - I Need To Be Loved So Bad (far superior flipside to (the 'awful' C&W/popcorn) I've Arrived on Era). Is this the same SF who was later a member of Creative Source?
-
and a lesser known (and expensive) one he arranged and produced and written by his brother (Richard) from 1977 ... not seen anything else from this group so guessing it's their only release .. unless of course anyone can shed more light?

Ellingtons on Castle - Label owner Rob Russen joins in!
Soulstrutter replied to Steve Plumb's topic in Look At Your Box
Thanks .... That's weird as it's not listed under Ellingtons releases ... you have to click 'Unofficial' to see it! ... but as suspected it is blocked from sale (JM's got it on his site for £15). P.S. The last 'original' to sell that I can find on on Popsike was April 2018 and went for £218: https://www.popsike.com/Northern-Soul-45-The-Ellingtons-Castle-Lbl-Camden-NJ/372277360319.html ... also found this while searching (not listed anywhere) says it's doo wop so probably a different group? https://www.popsike.com/Ellingtons-45-rpm-GClef-My-Story-Hurry-Home/392622701596.html -

Soulstrutter replied to Steve Plumb's topic in Look At Your Box
Hi Rob Thanks for commenting on this. As I stated originally everything about it is wrong so no one should have been under any illusion that it was legit (wrong color, no logo, no writer credits, inaccurate producers as you state (that aren't even on the original pressing), even the title is incorrect! and the B side is the same track. This was pressed up late 70s (78/79 I would guess) as your record was 'in demand' as played heavily at Wigan Casino at the time. No idea who pressed it and also no idea of how many are still floating around. Not even listed on Discogs (who would probably ban it from sale in an case). It is listed on 45Cat here: https://www.45cat.com/record/102us19 -

Soul Sam @ St Ives All-nighter 1977/78 LIVE TAPE
Soulstrutter replied to Soulstrutter's topic in All About the SOUL
... and another two by same artist using 7 Days 52 Weeks backing (from Philly, which makes sense as 7 days is credited to Robert L. Martin (aka Bobby Martin) and isn't Merben a Philly label and Cody M was recorded at Virtue studios. Virtue offered service whereby for $300-$500 you could turn up a cut a disc and put it on Virtue or your own label .... now I wonder if Virtue provided the backing track and different lyrics were recorded on top as that's now at least 5 different songs using same backing??? Liza-Mae - Up Until The Night Time Comes [Concept #CON 920] ... the flip to Juicy Mouth (CON 915) is 'The Watergate Jazz' ... so guessing that would date it between 72-74? Liza-May - I Want To Be Happy [Omega #OR 811] NB it's 2nd track @ 2:55 on clip below 1st track is 'Little Girl' NB Omega 818 is dated 1967 so guessing this must be 66/67? ... Cody Michaels was 1967 -

Soulstrutter replied to Soulstrutter's topic in All About the SOUL
Thanks for that .... I thought it a bit early for RCA / Grapevine acetate as it didn't come out until 1979 but couldn't think of what label it was on! .... Incidentally there is an alternate 'version' that uses same backing by Michael Christian - If I Can't Have You [Concept] (still blue-eyed though! without even a nod to the writer Philly's Bobby Martin): -

I don't know the exact date of the recording ... but all cover ups listed were announced as such on tape (i.e. with c/u name).
