'i've Got To Get Myself Together' Who Was First ?

Does this make Spyder akin to Milli Vanilli then on this clip For those that don't 'get it' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milli_Vanilli#Lip-syncing_exposure_and_media_backlash,_1989–1991 P.S. to confuse things further the poster of the clip 'claims' it's Joe Matthews????? From comments: "did you know that it is actually the vocals of Joe Matthews? I just found out today. The promo copy of 'stand by me' is a double 'A' side. That is an odd and first-time for an early 1967 MGM single. Spyder's 'stand by me' take was submitted as a demo tape to MGM and they decided to issue it right away. And since it was a 'one' song demo thing, it could only be issued as a double 'A' side 45. The air-play reaction was immediate and the commercial/stock release had to be issued in a rush to meet the public demand while it was still "hot". So they manage through Clay McMurray (then Spyder Turner manager) who was a corner-stone in all that small Detroit business and music industry to get unreleased material from Thelma records collection. And so it was "intentionally" released as the 'B' side with a fake/cover-up singer name." -
Sorry 'assumed' it was for the 45 ... you're right why on earth would someone bid £44 with still 18 days to go ... when as you say there are plenty available for much less than that. Obviously bidder doesn't know about Discogs as even a cursory glance at prices the highest sale is £7.50.

Rina Chanel - Worthy available here: https://www.amazon.com/Worthy-Rina-Chanel/dp/B082PDHBBP

Yeah ...this seems to be the only place to get her albums from. The track posted is not on either album and is download only available here (but shorter version than the one she's posted on her YT channel): https://www.amazon.co.uk/If-Leave-You-Dee-Simon/dp/B07XYFYKH4

... and take your pick which version is best between Garland Green or John Edwards - Ain't That Good Enough.. Note different credits I think they got John Edwards confused for the Ashford & Simpson above?
-
Ain't That Good Enough co-written with Ashford & Simpson from Gimme Something Real...

Could this be same Don(ald) Thomas as Come On Train/Train Keep Moving? Vocals sound very similar. There's a comment on YT clip from label owner/producer which I've extracted in case the clip ever gets taken down: "My name is Don A. Lackey and PMRC was and is my company. I started PMRC back in college, and we produced, managed and recorded a number of individuals and groups. This particular song was brought to me on a cold winter day by Donald Thomas. He had the words mostly written out, and no other concept of how the song should go, tempo, chord changes or melody. He had no recording or professional music experience at that time. I gauged him to have a lot of potential, and so made a modest investment in my time and production money to put a recording session together. I regret that I have lost track of Donald Thomas over the years, and have ask other folks in the Beaumont area about him several times, to no avail. Back to the song, I put all the rest together, including the arrangements, strings and rhythm section. I played guitar on the cut. It was recorded at Mickey Rouse's Lowland Recording Studio in Port Neches, Texas, and Mickey engineered the session. As I remember, we used the equivalent of a 4 track recorder be bouncing some tracks on two-track recorders. Mickey did not have a four-track up and running yet. I can vouch for the fact that this recording IS original and indeed RARE. Please feel free to contact me, should anyone want any other information. PMRCmedia@Gmail.com Don Lackey, Katy, Texas." According to artist info on Discogs: Don Thomas's real name was Charles but he changed it to Don when joined the Drifters (1969) to avoid conflict with long standing member Charlie Thomas. He used Donald Thomas (and Donald R. Thomas) on writing credits on COT/TKM. He left Drifters in 1971 so that may tie in with this release in 1971 before he cut COT? However, Don Lackey mentions that he had no prev music experience at the time so perhaps not .... but the vocals do sound very similar especially if you compare with Train Keep Moving. I can't find 'Calling Me Home' registered to Thomas on BMI but there are quite a few entries for Donald Ray Thomas (incl COT/TKM) among many others - wasn't aware that he wrote for others ... shame BMI doesn't link to releases! https://repertoire.bmi.com/Catalog.aspx?detail=writerid&page=1&fromrow=1&torow=25&keyid=341629&subid=0 P.S. just noticed that a G. (Gene?) Townsel produced Come On Train/Train Start Moving ... strange how things interconnect!

Are you looking to buy or sell? They originally sold for $10 + P&P. I've a full set and had a spare set which I sold issues for around £7.50 but only #2 & #7 left. I got some missing issues direct from Bev Moore at face value plus shipping from Spain. If buying she 'might' have some left?

Sadly it's human nature ... it stems from the basic human need of wanting 'significance/difference' ... just look at the state of religion and politics. In psychology it's called 'tallest building syndrome' ... you can have it either by building a taller one or knocking down the opponent's one. i.e. the easiest option is to 'knock down' than to 'build up'.

Just got turned on to Dee Dee Simon via her latest album just out 'Soulmate' and checked out some of her earlier material. This came out last Sep as download only (available on Amazon) but she's posted up an extended version (4:44 v 3:08) on her YT page so thought I'd share it. Terrific, authentic deep soul ... this could have been recorded in 70s ... in the Shirley Brown/Betty Wright school of soul.

Thanks for pointing this out ...What's the origin of this if it's not available to buy? Heard it on Kevin Oxberry podcast @ 1:49:30 here: It gives the track bit more depth and 'bite' love it! https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/kevinoxberry/episodes/2020-01-25T02_16_04-08_00 P.S. A great selection of new tracks on here (and of course on his other weekly podcasts) highly recommended if you like new music.

I know for a fact someone who does that - one for himself and as many as he can buy to sell for profit. I posted on this thread earlier that this deprives others of buying at face value. I know some sellers limit to a max of 2 for that very reason but it doesn't take many to buy up all the stock and then flood Discogs with them for double or more the price. Same thing happens with 100 Club anniversary singles you see them for sale the next day for stupid money for something they got for nothing! Are people really buying 45s because they like the music or just because they know that eventually because they are limited edition they will appreciate in value? Best thing to do is NOT buy them on the resale market and make do with the digital so they are left with them! Then at least the artists are receiving something rather than lining the pockets of the 'carpetbaggers'!

£6.82???? that's cheap. Many thanks for the heads up.
-
Yeah ... sold out already on Bandcamp ... unless they're on sale anywhere else? ... none yet on Discogs ... that WILL be interesting as why would you buy and sell immediately if not just to profit? Vinyl LP's available but only German or US (thought this band was English?)
-
Hey Rick .. thanks for posting this up and turning me on to these guys. Had never heard of them before today but been checking them out and they've done some terrific stuff since 2008 .. how come I've never heard of them until now? Sadly 45 https://mamasgunuk.bandcamp.com/ is already sold out (only on sale since 20th!!!) so now at the mercy of the mercenaries on Discogs .. or buy CD/LP which is probably a better bet. I think this comment left on one of their YT clips sums it up: "I'm 57 years old, live in Charlotte NC and I love this group. This is an example that music transcends race, location and time."

Technically from last year (Nov) ... but this was a real surprise debut from a blue-eyed Estonian Rita Ray ... but don't let that deter you it's a very good album. Lead track is Little Girl which is what led to to explore the full album. https://ritaray.bandcamp.com/album/old-love-will-rust

Just checked out his new album Romantique, Pt. 2 and best track (for me) is Close To You ... as most of album is covers I expected it to be the Bacharach/David track but it's a new cut (modern dancer) ...can't find a YT clip for it (NOTE It's NOT Closer To You ballad from 89!) but short sample here: https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/willdowning12

I think this is a case of press up the minimum number possible to keep costs down and see how it goes ... and if it sells well press up some more. I thought that vinyl cutting was expensive but done a little research and it's only £1-£2 per disc depending on quantity e.g 250 run @£2 each means break -even @£12 is only 42 copies. If you don't think you'll sell 42 copies then why bother releasing it ... and if you press up 1000 @ £1 each then you need to sell 84 to break-even ... so not that much of a risk is it? ... so perhaps it IS a cynical ploy to create demand???? ... or perhaps force you to buy mp3 which costs them very little? Not forgetting of course that these aren't really record labels/companies, generally it is the band themselves that have to lay out for recording/production and pressing costs often on a shoestring and many simply don't have the money to do it on a large scale.

Nice ... 'proper' new music ... sounding a bit like Ronald Isley on intro. He's quite prolific ... done 9 albums so far although only 3 of them listed on Discogs. https://www.carmichaelmusiclover.com/

New one (well a month ago) from Charlie Wilson - Forever Valentine ... his best since There Goes My Baby ... targeted at the Chicago stepping scene methinks?
-
No one is criticising you for buying it - If you like it enough to pay £31 after P&P from US than that is entirely up to you ... just like it's our choice not to buy it at that price for a new release that's all.

It might interest you to know that the artists only receive 'mechanical royalties' on downloads which are split 50/50 between artist/composer ... and the princely sum is .... $0.091 per track ... so nowhere near 50p a track more like 4.5 cents!!!! or 9.1 cents if they also wrote the track! ... which is probably why lots of artist now choose to self release as I would imagine the balance (less download site fees) goes to record company (who obviously have all the costs of recording/production etc.) https://www.royaltyexchange.com/blog/mechanical-royalties#sthash.3xayrsva.dpbs
