  5. I believe that it's Jo Armstead's own label and these were released late 80s/early 90s from 70s recordings. I'm guessing (from label) that these were limited edition runs so would again guess 300/500 ... but only a guess? I'm only aware of this release and another on 12" (before?) 'In The Right Place/By A Twist Of Fate In The Right Place (Inst of A). She also released an album 'Red Hot' on the label which is available on CD on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Hot-Jo-Armstead/dp/B000CAGUTS. Sound like a mix of 70s/80s recordings I Fell Asleep On The Job, He Moves Me and Stepping Stones are the highlights.

  9. Thanks for looking! In these time of lockdown I guess many are having a clear out so perhaps it's the best time to ask if anyone wants to sell any of the following issues of Black Echoes/Echoes magazine: 1976 Jan 30 Feb 7,14 Apr 10 1977 May 28 Dec 31 1978 Sep 9,16 1979 Oct 6 Nov 10,24 1980 Apr 19 May 3,10 1982 Oct 30 Nov 27 1983 Jan 8,15 Mar 19 1984 Nov 3 1989 Jul 1 Sep 23 Dec 16
  10. From the 19 seconds you've uploaded it's difficult to tell but it does sound a little like him .. also sounds like the same backing as Danny Monday. What's the story begin this acetate?
  11. I'm the author of https://soulstrutter.blogspot.com/2011/01/ns525-danny-monday-1966-baby-without_08.html. The blog has been sadly neglected for the last 10 years but I'm in the process of updating and adding to it (which is how I found this thread). Unfortunately the person that left the comment about Danny Monday left it anonymously so I was unable to reply or follow-up on it. I have put a note on the post requesting he leaves another comment ... but as it was 6 years ago it's a long shot. I've not been able to track anything more down about Danny Monday & 2nd Revolution. Until I get any more info I'll leave the conjecture and speculation Garethx makes a good point and I did go down the Jim Ford route - he was a prolific writer (183 credits on Discogs) and he did record himself - around 10 45s and an album. He died in 2007 and there have been 3 posthumous LPs and 3 compilations released since then ... bizzare! His material is what I would class a mix of country soul rock. Could it be him? ... I'm not sure as only listened briefly to a couple of his tracks and voice sounds a bit country to me. Around the same time as Danny Monday Ford & Lolly & Pat Vegas wrote Nikki Hokey for P.J. Proby (another candidate???) Aretha also did it on Lady Soul. They wrote a couple more together up to 68 then of course Pat & Lolly formed Redbone. P.S. Anyone know anything about the Gene & Gary version of Baby Without You released on the 100 Club 31st anniversary Kent 45? It says on the label it's a Modern recording ... one left in the can?
  12. The MAMs release is a 'fortune' because it's got his deep soul killer 'But If You Must Go' on the flip! The only way to own it on vinyl until Kent released it on Deep Soul in 2016 (also came out on Jack Ashford's Just Production CD the same year)
  13. There's a comment on SoulHawk's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5m0gXGl5hU) posting of 'I Done Told You' from Kandice Jackson stating 'There are three of us left, from the group. Kandy, Johnny, and Ronnie.' Perhaps she can confirm if you reply to her? I've got their other Al-Tog outing which is nothing like the two on this 45 ... a bit messy sounds a bit to me like Mad Dog & The Pups - Why Did You leave Me Girl . .. but has a strange charm
  14. Very good article Chalky which I have just found researching Emory & The Dynamics. This snippet may be of interest. Found a comment on a YT posting for 'Let's Take a Look At Your Life' from 2014 (here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDJs_79lSE8). from someone 'claiming' (as you can never be sure?) to be the one of the members (William Harris) daughter. There is also a photo of them scanned from the Grapevine William Bell - Atlanta Soul CD "This is my father William Harris singing on the second verse, such a shame that the credit for the talent on this record is not given to him and the other only other living original group member Emory Harris , who is singing lead on this song. I have seen other get rich off their hard work and talent." So from that I deduce that Emory (Harris) is probably not the Emory Cloud (unless of course at some point he changed his name?). I am also guessing that William & Emory were brothers and (in 2014 at least) they are both still around. Have to say though there does seem to be a 'similarity' if Emory Harris is 2nd from left??? Also just found this photo (may have been the one Chalky previously posted above) but link is now dead.
  15. Looking for these B&S issues to replace existing ones: 67, 263, 272, 295, 342, 349, 353, 361, 362
  16. Nice to see a varied playlist ... loads on here that I don't know! .. thanks for posting ... another batch o check out
  17. From the same 1982 album (On My Way) as 'Keep The Fire Burning' is 'Doin' It' which only got a single release (7" & 12") in UK ... but a rarer version is by Chuck Strong on Invasion
  18. 1982 modern soul / club classic from Gwen McCrae - Keep The Fire Burning
  19. Nice one ... apparently she changed her name for recording just after leaving The Ikettes ... so that Ike Turner couldn't identify/find her!!! 'Sad Girl' was the follow up on a different label (Simpson) with a nice beat ballad 'I'll Never Let You Down' on flip NB both tracks included in this clip
  20. .. and from The Mack LP 1973 the 'anthemic' I Choose You ... timeless pure quality. Covered by Chicago Gangsters on Red Coach/Gold Plate (also an epic 9:20 version on Blind Over You LP on Gold Plate) which I was going to post but for me Willie's version is the definitive version that cannot be touched!
  21. No one posted this yet? Lucky To Be Loved By You .. LP only from Soul Portrait UPDATE ... Apologies ... this HAS already been posted!
  22. That's right ... only 11 issues. Ran from Sep 2006 to Jun 2009
  23. This one's been getting spins at Horse & Groom Sunday sessions. Originally done of course by Val Simpson but this is 'our Cilla's' version ... don't knock it ... give it a spin and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised?
  24. ... ha ... you pipped me to it! Was considering posting this. Just amazing how many class tunes this lady has provided 'our scene'
  25. One of the finest NS records ever made ... it's got it all and still so hard to get hold of an original ... if you had one why on earth would you sell it?
