  1. I found a copy in a junk shop in Aberdeen of all places around 77/78 and always thought it was original ... but turns out it's the boot. Never knew it got played at the time (hence why I thought it was areal un as never knew it was booted). Always sort of liked it but never brave enough to play it out back then as a bit 'off the wall' latin/jazz a real Marmite record. ... and would yo have had to cover it up as couldn't pronounce his name
  2. I have both of these .... but for some reason it sticks in my mind (don't know why but must have read it at the time B&S / Black Music) that The Emotions - Flowers was the first in UK. https://www.discogs.com/The-Emotions-Flowers/release/367381 states Aug 77 and the listing for Peter Brown states 1978 (but of course Discogs is often incorrect) https://www.discogs.com/Peter-Brown-Do-Ya-Wanna-Get-Funky-With-Me/release/314609
  3. ... as long as it wasn't to his trousers ... now that would be scary!!
  4. Thanks - a few have pointed it out but I updated the wrong track! There's just one left now in Russ's set tape #3 - male (poppy) vocal - title I would guess has Baby Love in it.
  5. Luckily I never had that happen. Sounds OK given the technology we had back then ... probably get better quality from a phone these days captures the atmosphere especially for those who've never been (as per Len's comment). I've got a few more from earlier which I might post from Wigan and St. Ives. Unfortunately never got to Cleethorpes before it shut down but similar sounds played at St Ives.
  6. Ok Thanks ... I've updated playlist accordingly as mine was a guess
  7. Cheers - I'll have to listen to it again - I 'assumed' it was Signs on UK Decca ... purely on the basis that it was c/u as Mickey Moonshine (also UK Decca)! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOh5dVpBfTc
  8. Thanks Steve - playlist updated - I did recocgnise it but couldn't for the life on me recall what it was called as I'm sure Russ announced the title as 'Out Of This World'. A comment on this clip suggests that it was covered up as by Mystic Moods - One Way Out Of This World : which would make sense as he played Astral Trip directly before it.
  9. Yes I think it was played 3 or 4 times on the night - written by Jackie Trent and Tony (New Faces) hatch!!!!
  10. Funnily enough (?) I've just posted 4 hours worth of tapes from Casino 5th and the 2nd tape features a set by Alan (at least I think it's Alan ... someone standing in for Keith Minshull) - if it's not Alan can anyone tell who it is?)
  11. Had some tapes lying around for 40 years from the Casino 5th Anniversary and finally got around to digitising them so thought I'd share them: 4 hours of memories or an education for those too young to have been! There are 3 tracks which I couldn't recognise (highlighted underlined) (1 in #2 Richard's set and 2 in #3 Russ's set)... it would be good to complete playlist so any help appreciated. UPDATE: Thanks to Steve Cee (and a few others) 2 now identified - playlist updated so just the one now to identify male (poppy) vocal (baby love / raging love???) in Russ's set tape 3. NOTE: Where there are 2 artists the first is the cover-up name followed by /the real artist - same with the titlle #1 Wigan Casino Live 5th Anniversary Sep 1978 #1 Richard Searling Richard Searling 00:00 Yvonne Vernee - Just Like You Did Me [SonBert] 02:20 Todd Terry Band???/The Dogs - Soul Step [Treasure] 04:05 Del Capris / Construction - Hey Little Way Out Girl [Sync 6/Grapevine] 06:28 Velvelettes / Rita & Tiaras - My Love Is Gone With The Wind [Dore] (RS announced as first ever play at Wigan) 08:33 Jimmy Burns - I Really Love You [Erica] 10:51 Gerri Thomas - Look What I Got [World Artists] 13:25 Bob Seger System / J.C. 12. You are probably right - didn't it close down (usual reason) and then re-open? I moved to Aberdeen in July 1976 so the last one I attended would have been 76 where I heard Pointer Sisters being played.
  13. SORRY repeated as the prev didn't seem to go through! On the YouTube clip for Walter & Bobby - One, Two, Three there is a comment from someone claiming that Walter was her uncle and Bobby his friend so I've sent a message asking her to confirm who each is ... so hopefully she'll respond
  14. On the YouTube clip for Bobby & Walter One,Two, Three there is a comment (a year ago) from someone claiming that Walter is her uncle and Bobby his friend - so I've asked for clarification i.e. was her uncle Williams or Davis and was Bobby - Freeman or Pittman so maybe soon will ll be revealed?
  15. ... and thought I'd have a poke on 45Cat and found another 2 45s by them: https://www.45cat.com/record/fs8805 Bobby & Walter - One, Two, Three/Do It Like You Feel It [Sanns] It's definately them as same writers: B. Freeman, B. Pittman on A side One, Two, Three and W. Williams, B. Pittman on B side Do It Like You Feel It ... which in turn links to this release: https://www.45cat.com/record/nc004308us Sweet Bobby And Honey Boy - Watch The One Who's Talking/Tell The Truth [Sound O Riffic] ... both sides written by B. Freeman, W. Williams no dates on either None of the 'float my boat' ... sort of funky/blues
  16. I suspect it is ... as the only other release attributed to Bob(by) Pittman (if you click link) is from 1946!!!! ... but I suspect that this is not the same Bob Pittman. https://www.discogs.com/artist/458330-Bobby-Pittman I'm with you Chalky Bobby Freeman & Walter Williams (or perhaps Walter Butterball Davis)
  17. Good grief!!! just had a peak at the list ... well you know you have to ... and apart from Mel Britt / Lou Pride and perhaps Ollie Jackson) I don't think any self-respecting DJ would play anything else from that list today (or then for that matter
  18. Pointer Sisters must have been 75/76 as remember it being 'hammered' at St. Ives which closed in 76
  19. Just checked Discogs and 'RytmMalmo' has created a new listing for Bobby & Walter within the last 24 hours and the submission notes shows: 'New submission. Obscure 45 by Walter Butterball Davis and Bobby Pittman.' .. of course this might be a 'guess' https://www.discogs.com/Bobby-And-Walter-They-Dont-Want-To-See-Us-Together-Just-Let-Me-Know/release/14650461
  20. Many thanks for all your contributions. To summarise the initial query: Nicole Grace - Tomorrow (@ 02:24:53) NO INFO YET - Esther Grant (I think ... couldn't quite make out what he announced) - Take My Heart (@ 02:27:13) which is superb. This is a cover-up originating from Ady Croasdel which may or may not see the light of day eventually on Kent - He also played a Gilly acetate covered up? as Little Miss Dee Dee - You Better Wake Up (@ 02:07:50) which he said was being released this year. Little Miss Dee Dee is a cover up and is being released on Hayley later this year - Mick H played an acetate titled 'The Wind Is My Friend' (no artist named) (@ 02:57:47) This is confirmed as a 10" acetate (no artist so far available) - Also both Mick & Sam played tracks announced as by Joseph Webster (Mick @03:14:05 & Sam @04:43:23) both funky tunes - sounds like the same artist - are they cover-ups? on the same 45? .. or has an obscure Joseph Webster 45 surfaced? Sam's track was Joseph Webster - My Love So Strong (on Crow) Mick H's is a cover-up now uncovered as Bobby & Walter - They Don't Want To See Us Together [La Cade #LC100] 1973 ... I'm sure Mick is 'delighted' Jury still out on who Bobby & Walter are. Writers: B. (Bob) Pittman, W. (Walter) Williams, B. (Bobby) Freeman Suggestions are: Bob PIttman & Walter Williams Walter 'Butterball' Davis Bobby Freeman & Walter Williams
  21. Apologies if this has been discussed previously but noticed a comment on Discogs Inspirations listing: https://www.discogs.com/The-Inspirations-Your-Wish-Is-My-Command/release/2300632 from Bill Miller who states that hew wrote and sang lead on the track. I also checked on Popsike and one sold in Dec 2016 for $850/£656 which I thought was cheap given the previous one in 2015 sold for $1400/£1046 https://www.popsike.com/The-InspirationsYour-Wish-Is-My-Command-Ill-Take-A-Chance1966-Midas9003/262772722511.html Upon checking why it sold 'cheaply' it was because there was writing on label and vinyl was scuffed ... however (this is the interesting bit) the writing is 'To John From Bill Miller' (if it's genuine). However the writing credits on label is V. Rice which is pseudonym for George Leaner (One-derful) (his wife's maiden name Verlie Rice). Now I know there were a lot of shenanigans over writing credits so it may be plausible that Bill Miller did write the track but didn't get writing credits. There's an email address on the comment so may well contact him to find out the story - unless someone has already done so. Any thoughts?
  22. No it's Mick H at the Feed Your Soul 5th anniversary
  23. So if it is the same tune as on podcast ... Mick H must be covering it up as Joseph Webster then?
  24. I think if you're struggling to think of what to put on the fill the floor then you can't call yourself a DJ :-)!!!!! Just off the top of my head .... Ruby Andrews - Just Loving You Jack Montgomery - Dearly Beloved Sypder Turner - I Can't Make It Anymore Jackie Wilson - I'm The One To Do It (or ANY Jackie Wilson from 1966 - 1975 will do it!!! e.g. Whispers, Soul Galore, Since You Showed Me, Who Who Song, Don't Want To Lose You, Just Be Sincere etc. etc. Bobby Patterson - I'm In Love With You Leon Haywood - Consider The Source (Capitol version) The obvious 'played out classics Top 500' Cause You're Mine, Quick Change Artist, I Still Love You, Stick By Me Baby, Cashing In, Lend A Hand, Seven Day Lover, It Really Hurts Me Girl, I'm So Happy, etc., etc. to 'revive' the dancefloor and then clear it with your latest 'rarity' lol!
  25. This has 'Lonely In A Crowd' on the flip which is a bit more uptempo than this but no 'I Still Love You (although I think those Superlatives are a different group)!!!- I've 3 copies of this (if anyone wants/needs one) - must have been a 'soul packer' back in the day! It's a £20-£25 record these days (Discogs) It came out first on Dynamics in 67 so the Westbound from 1968 must be either a re-issue or a national issue?
