  3. At a venue what 2 record's do you enjoy dancing to the most? Know you've probably got a huge list but what about your Top 2.

Obviously you'll have your favourite records you like to hear when your out or buy and put in your collection (if your a collector that is), but not neccessarily the same tune that has your feet on the dance floor before you have time to think about it...

    For me it's:

The Tranells - Blessed with a love (10 out of 10)

Out of sights - For the rest of my life (pure heaven) :)

    What's yours

they buyer or bidder obviously thinks

that Black Wings.. is the same as the Resist realese

They couldnt be further from the truth

Its a truly SHITE 70,s VERSION nothing at all like the 60,s one.ABISMAL is an understatement not worth £50 IMO

    but that counts for nowt

    regards Richie

The 70's version is definately not shite, it's certainly different to the 60's, but very good although same.

  7. Hi, I saw this

    https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...p;rd=1&rd=1

and wonder is it really worth so much (cause when I first asked about this several years ago no one seemed to know it at all)..so I am just very very curious (again). TIA

    Marc

    Hi Marc

Very nice, haven't heard some of the tracks on the lp, would very much like to though - Hayes Cotton a favorite of mine. Wouldn't pay that much for it but I don't know it's true value. Think on a thread a while back someone said they had an lp with the 7o's version of Black Wing's though I maybe wrong. Sorry couldn't be much more help.

  10. think you will find that the

uniques "here we go again" col la soul same label apart from the la, maybe thought it sounded better?

think both written or produced by the late jeff smith of capsoul records.

i have a chance of getting a copy of the rare uniques if anyone is interested?

Thanks - checked label scan no credits to Jeff Smith

Chandlers had another release on Bleu Rose (Never Before) You're Love Keeps Drawing Me Closer. I presume it's the same group.

Great minds think alike wink.gif just listening to this on John's site this afternoon, not for me but beautiful label

There is at least one other release on the Colony 13 label (Not Soul/Not at all good) Had it in my grubby mitts about Two Weeks ago in the U.S. but forgot the artist, it was pretty forgettable. Jeff Smith was involved in many Labels on the Columbus Soul scene :- Owl, Holiday, Col Soul, Col U Soul, Incentive, Prix, Bleu Rose amongst others, in one way or another. The Columbus Soul scene was a pretty compact one, in comparism to other Cities, and Jeff Smith was a bit of a local hero, and sadly lost his fight with Cancer a few Years ago.

    DES PARKER

know your busy Des, but did you manage that info for me. Next interest is the Lee J label only know of 6 releases.

definitely only one release on Col Soul. I saw a Colony 13 record on ebay last week or the week before, it was garage punk I think.

Thanks Pete - Next interest is the Lee J label only know of 6 releases

  11. The Chandlers - Your love makes me lonely - is this the only release on the Col soul label, from the Info I have it would appear to be.... If so how incredible is that, had a copy but didn't realise it was a one off label release.. unless anyone can help with more detail's about the label...

    Thank's

  12. By 1am I'm raring to go - my body has just kicked into dancing mode  so it's either a 9pm - 3am mini-niter/soul nite or preferably an All-niter for me

Plenty of niters offering good if not excellent dj set's, so probably best to check out the dj line up first to ensure musically your in for a good nite/niter

  13. Just stepped out of a cave!

Well I have now been back in the UK for a good six months now after spending the last eleven years in Germany whilst serving with the Army.

I have tried my utmost to keep a breast of the scene with the internet and the German scooter runs n Nighters but enjoy them as much as I did I know I have missed out on some major musical discoveries.

On my visits back I was lucky, or unlucky depending on your taste, to sample the likes of The four vandals, Larry Tinder and The Phonetics just a Boys Dream.

I listened to a live link up on the net as radio 2 burst out wake up to the sunshine girl and watched in amusement as the "chicken" adverts bought the scene closer to Joe public.

Since getting back to blighty I have sampled Drax, Eggborough, The Blackpool soul weekender, Earl of Doncaster, Winford civic, Frobisher's and the usual smattering of soul Nights.

I have been amazed at the sheer volume of new stuff out here! Just managed to get "Tribute to Betty tonight" thanks Bazza, I do feel as if stumbling out of a cave and its freaking brilliant. Before I would have to travel down to The 100 Club to have my Northernsoul batteries recharged but now I am a northernsoul sprogg once more, hope it lasts a fair while but I would dearly love to know where the best places are to hear the new stuff??

Not just Modern stuff but the dusted off and or rediscovered rare soul gems that have made you all go "ooooohhhh" or even "Aaaarrrgh" for the last few years.

If you want a venue that offers you a chance to hear rare soul played out for the first time plus unknown's and modern the "Life line niters" are the place to go

You'll be guaranteed a few "oooohhhh" n "aarrrghh's" - certainly worth giving it a try imo, I'm a dancer, collector and love chatting soul all night - the Lifeline events have all the right ingredients - just had the 2nd Lifeline weekender and what a fantastic event that was - check out the thread in Event lookbacks - Niters on bi-monthly next one April. The place to go to hear the countries top dj's all under one roof thumbsup.gif

  14. I work with a couple of guys who have consistently either refused or been unable to get their head around rare/northern soul.

They have now discovered and are in awe of Amy Winehouse which is a good thing.

But still they are unable to relate her music to the tracks I play at work.

So, I'm going to do a CD comp for them. I haven't as yet titled it, but it will probably be called either 'The Amy Wineshose Experience' or Wake up & Smell The Coffee'

    So far I'm up to:

Bobby Bland - Aint Nothin' You Can Do

Baby Washington - Let Love Go By

Etta James - 7 Day Fool

Darrel Banks - No One Blinder

    Care to add....

    Cheers

    Col.

Hi Col long time since I saw you out n about... think it was at the L.L at the Fox - which has now moved near Retford would be nice if you could make the April niter.

Anyway back on topic.. had same problem with work mates or non soul friends not understanding the music - but can't for the life of me see what Amy Whinehouse and Northern etc have in common. Can see why they're unable to relate her music to the Northern tracks. I have listened to her voice objectively and Imo she can't sing  - yes maybe by pop chart standards but couldn't possibly be likened or compared to the voices of the real soul singers we appreciate, there's no comparison again imo.

Great that you do them a cd, so they can appreciate it for what it is, but leave Amy in the pop charts.... whistling.gif

    Hi Nev,

Not sure where your coming from on this one - respect your opinion on the record, but quote - "Somewhere along the line weve lost the whole soulful plot imho????", and "not this tryin to discover something that sounds like them 100 mile an hr stuff from 30 yrs back" un-quote.

"Mr Lucky" - one of my fav's thumbsup.gif personally love "Neal Kimble" but the above comment's

    IMO

    regard's Karen

  16. I heard a radio show somewhere Lincs/Norfolk way that was playing some Northern tunes. A woman called in and said that she happened to have tuned in and heard Dena Barnes 'If you ever walked out of my life' said it was the first northern tune she had heard in years and it made her cry whilst listening and driving up the A1. Said it brought back fantastic memories of her youth and visits to the north of England.

What tune does it for you then?

for me Christine Cooper, Heartaches away and P. P. Arnold, Everythings Gonna Be Alright.

One of many for me is Gwen Owens - Wanted and needed.

    Karen

  17. If I remember Chalky played it as his first record when he was a guest DJ at Hitchin late last summer.... great dancer IMO...the record....

Yes your right thumbsup.gif Chalky generally plays it in his set's - Fabulous dancer has you up on the dance floor from the instant you hear intro, one of those I'll never get bored off
