  1. First heard this when Dave played it on Mark Bicknells Solar radio show - loved it from the start - would love a copy - prefer Sonic, though out of my price range right now - thought LK would be a lot cheaper but seem's not that much difference - another to get saving for Karen

  4. Really really want a copy of - The Holiday's - I lost you - Groove City... Awesome recording, guess I've a bit of saving to do before I buy it... Just wondering who's got a copy - anyone thinking of selling and how much realistically I can expect to pay.... Any help greatly appreciated... Karen
  5. Sorry to hear of your ordeal Hammy, can hardly believe such a thing could happen and that they took away your medication without checking with a doctor, such a serious situation which I sincerely hope dosen't cause you long term damage. Just unbelievable and must have been a huge worry for your girlfriend. Hope your feeling a little better though after such an ordeal it maybe a little while before your back to yourself. Take care and have lot's of rest and here's hoping no long term damage has been done. Make sure you get the B*stard's struck of the police force so it can't happen again, though sense too many probably working in the same way. Best wishes Karen
  6. Guess at the end of the day nothing anyone can do about the new smoking ban - though as a smoker have always thought it unfair on non-smoker's to force our smoke on them, but has always been a part of the scene. Interesting comment in a previous post , drinking and any health related illness from that affects only that person - where as smoking forces others to passive smoke without any choice. I have recently bought some filters that capture only some of the tar before going into the lung's - out of everything I've ever seen this has shocked me big time - I've put a photo below of one which has tar from 10 ciggerettes - baring in mind it only filters a small amount the rest still goes into the lung's. To actually see what would and is going into my lung's has sickended me big time. There 99p for 10 - you use each one for approx 10 ciggs then it's full of TAR - yuck. Karen
  7. Difficult one.... For someone who has smoked since 14 and used to smoking outside in all weather's (only smoker in family - partners etc ) I can see both side's. Personally I am again trying to stop n have managed to this week - until the weekend, then I'll have maybe 30. I seem to have developed an allergy to smoke. lol. Seriously, I noticed after stopping smoking (managed to stop for 8 yrs) I started to suffer quite badly from Sinusitus after a soul nite/niter especially as I danced all nite making me breath deeply - the only time I came into contact with ciggerette smoke. Circumstances in my life 2 yrs ago sadly made me turn to my old loving friend the ciggie, and apart from venue's I smoke outside, the sinus trouble still exist's. I enjoy smoking, but have alway's been conscious of those around me that don't smoke. I have bought something that has shocked me more than anything, will post up hopefully tonite - through out the 70's in school we were shown photo's of a smoker's lung etc, but went in one ear n out the other. What I have to show cannot so easy be denied. Smoke free venue's - IMO a good idea - dancing would keep you fit, if not for all the smoke you take in with each deep breath, and I smoke so many more than I actually want just for the sake of it. If I had to go outside at a venue, like I do through out the week then non smoker's and smoker's can all be happy. Karen
  8. Hi Jock, Chalky played this in both's his set's at the "Wilton" and "Britt" at the weekend - sound's awesome played out ... Fabulous - not heard it before loved it straight away.. "Small thing's" another very good recording, but not quite got the same body n depth as "You can't outsmart a woman" which is a great dancer...
  9. Awesome, love this too. Very powerful voice, sung with depth n emotion.. just perfect on this miserable Monday afternoon, lifted my spirit's lot's... Cheers Joan... Greedy.. Nice to see you both on Saturday, what a nite to remember, hope you both enjoyed it as much as Chalky n I did. See you both soon.. Karen
  10. Nice tune Miff You missed a good un Friday - but won't rub it in.... Hope you had a good New Year.. Karen
  11. nostalgia can be nice too - if ever i'm down, i look back and ask my five year old self how he'd like me to feel now today - that soon cheers me up
  12. Lost in my own world on the dance floor with the "Out of sight's - For the rest of my life" - while the rest of the world sleep's... Karen
  13. Thought provoking stuff Dave - in theory easy question to answer but in reality how many of us would go through with it.. Got me thinking though - if we could n did how many would have given into temptation n sold them in recent year's - would they still feel it was worth being armless... Wonderful thought though - such is hindsight.. Karen
  14. Guess a different set of principle's Pete.... "And in any case what gives the DJ who has the original acetate the right to be the only person with a copy Karen? " The fact that they own it, n that they put time n effort into finding it in the first place or paid good money to buy it when brought to their attention or both. What right has anyone to take a cut for free or without the owners knowledge .... Say a mate trust's you n does a cd with full version of an unreleased track/rare only few known copy Issue, do you go get a cut - course not (polite ladies version) but some have - same goes for recording DJ set's without DJ knowing... IMO the scene has several aspects to it - the love and feel for the music from deep within - the passion to express this through dancing - the want to hear it no matter what format - the passion of collecting the original format it came out on - be it Acetate - Demo or Issue. Can't agree that collecting is just a rich mans pastime - I've had to re-build my collection from scratch n I'm certainly not rich by anymean's, but with time and effort have seen some very good original vinyl going into the collection again. "would never get nor want a cut unless ok given by the owner" "give me strength" give respect to others. What's wrong with not abusing the trust others put in you? "No wonder outsiders think half the people on the northern scene have their heads up their arses" !!!! My arse ain't big enough Karen
  15. Can't believe the amount of replies since viewing this morning n the direction in which it's gone.. All this talk about the soul police, boots, re-issues etc... To be honest can't see there's anything to debate, not about personal opinion's, soul policing... If someone own's the original Tape - Acetate - Demo or Issue - regardless of anything no-one else has a right to take cut n why should they, just cause say a record is the only known copy worth £4,000 or acetate only - what right would I have to get a cut of it n why would I want to - believe me there's a fair few I would love n can't afford etc but would never get nor want a cut unless ok given by the owner - certainly not if Issued - what would be the point it's not authentic, that's surely not what collecting is all about n above all not an honest or honorable way to be... oops best go n do tea said I'd only be a min.... (wfI) Karen
  16. I never heard anyone making comment's like you mention above - as for your statement, "far too many divvies started "going to Wigan" BEFORE they got into Soul proper" your point n problem is....... sick n fed up of the dig's/comment's that keep coming up time n again bout Wigan Casino, most from those that didn't even go.. It was as it was and will alway's have a special place in the heart's of those that went, whatever time - even "new wave "Wigan cult" worshippers post 1974" as you term it....
  17. Also must include Jimmy Ellis - I'm gonna do it by myself - Jewel Karen

  23. 24. Dancing is simply an expression of emotion you feel from the very heart n soul - when the music hit's your ear's Only way you could dance with a partner in this way is to do "shag dancing". Karen
  25. Didn't know Simon, but have read the above link, it is so sad that someone with a passion for life and who gave thought to others and the environment around him- life ended so early and in such a tragic way. Can't begin to imagine how the children are feeling - from the article I read it appears they have not only lost their dad but there mum isn't in a position to comfort and support them in their greatest time of need. I don't know any facts just what I have read. R.I.P Simon - my thoughts are with your children. Karen
