  1. No doubt John found them in the same way as he found Melvin Davis-Find a quite place, some years earlier.I remember discussing FAQP with Melvin himself,he said there were 500 copies pressed and it simply didn’t sell.
  2. Hi chalky, when Dave uses the word resources, this can mean as much about time and effort rather than finances.I agree with you about the two sounds being totally different and by that time I think Jackey Beavers would be seen as being dated. As you know,it would only be a year later when it was the start of what we all call crossover.
  3. Hi Falsetto Perfection.
  4. Another theory whilst on the subject, did Don Davis promote Steve Mancha Friday Night more than Jackey Beavers.
  5. Spot on as mentioned earlier, try getting hold of Kim Weston A little more love on us Tamla.Once again this was shelved to concentrate on a Marvin Gaye Hit.
  6. Personally I think you are spot on with your conclusion, when a record stands out as being far more scarce on a label than other recordings,it is usaly one of two reasons.Either it’s because it’s next to one that was a Hit as in this case or because it’s the last on the label when the label is winding up or has gone bust.
  7. Great artist,You don’t want me no more, will always be my favourite.
  8. Sherry from the Inverts, was married to Herman Griffin.
  9. I was always led to believe that open the door on London was taken straight off the Revilot record.
  10. I’ve always been reluctant to use the word Northern when talking about soul music due to the fact of a lot of the crap that’s been played over the years.
  11. I remember a good few years ago when Martin k was over here,I went to see Otis Clay live along with Andy Dyson and Tim Brown.Martin at that time said he would never have a record label signed,it would always be the sleeve.
  12. As I know George you have always liked your records to be in top notch condition as do I,to me this has defaced the record.
  13. This copy as far as I’m aware was stone mint when originally purchased from Martin k,personally I think it’s absolutely ridiculous to deface a record in that condition with all that writing.why didn’t he get Frank Wilson to autograph the record sleeve instead?
  14. For me,my record collection is like a photo album, full of memories of how and when I got them.so as far as I’m concerned there will never be a right time to sell them.
  15. Great unissued version by Orthea Barnes also.
  16. Just seen your reply ed,it was a sad day as you are well aware that Mick Cook was killed in it.
  17. I was in Grimsby General hospital for a week in the next bed to him when we were both in the coach crash going to cleethorpes all dayer.what a week that was, just before we were both going into theatre, the nurse asked us if we had been taking any drugs,it must have took bub 20 minuted to reel off what he had took lol.Yes there will only ever be one Bub.
  18. Great story Andy,it’s always good to get the true facts from the original source,J.O.T.S has never done it for me,however I think the flip side is tremendous and like yourself I thought it would have become more popular than it has.
  19. Ps.I am positive the percussionist on I didn’t have to is Jack Ashford.
  20. Hi Rob,this was recorded just prior to Dennis joining the Contours,on the I didn’t have to side is Ronnie Savoys brother Bob Reeco as producer.
  21. He wasn’t actually moonlighting as it was recorded before he joined the contours at Motown, however as far as the musicians are concerned that could be a different matter as I wouldn’t be surprised if members of the Funk Brothers are playing on it.
  22. Fave 2 tracks, I didn’t have to,Gotta find a way to get you back. I remember seeing him live along with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks at Doncaster dome, simply amazing. RIP Dennis Edwards.
  23. Ps I meant to say Parisians.
  24. With regards to how black artists were treated by Parisians is amazing, they were absolutely idolised.I have a love of the great Josephine Baker, who made Paris here home.On the day of here funeral Paris came to a standstill, there were over 20 thousand partisans lining the streets to bid here farewell.
  25. I totally agree with you,it was the Bands and solo artists of 60s GB love of R and B that helped promote Black artists of the u.s.a.
