Hi Tim,I've always been interested in the back ground stuff as you call it.I always wondered what the connection was between Nabay and Bob Babbit as you know Bob co wrote the song under his real name Robert Kreiner. With you putting the photo on here and the write up on Nabay you have answerd that question. Cheers Chris.
Hi Andy, your right about Pete Lowrie having some good hits in detroit.I got an absolute prestine unplayed w/d of both Duke Browner and Jock Mitchell off him and just missed out on a Nabay. When I asked him how he managed to find them in that condition he said they were file copies,so I guess they came from the same source as the sheet music. Chris.
That's answers a question I was going to ask you Gilly.I thought the Bonnie release was prior to the Impact release.I can understand you being a bit miffed after they came to prestatyn and people jumping on the bandwagon.I had the same happen to me,when a good few years ago I came on here after coming to the conclusion that the Smith Brothers and the Magnificents on Mam were the same group.
As far as I'm concerned Gilly you guys were at the forefront years ago. Although I've met several artists when they have come to the UK,I envy You ,Tim,Andy etc meeting them on there own Turf so to speak. When ever we've had a chat about this I've always found it intriguing.
Hi Gilly,I know when Andy Ricks tried contacting him he got a rather Frosty reception.I look forward to reading your book when it comes out.Its a real shame you guys were not able to get him to come to the UK where he could have seen just how much his music was loved. Chris.
I've only just found out after all these years that the Bonnie label which had the Magnetics Lady in Green was one of Duke Browners Nick names, hence Harry Baulk his good friend and label owner, naming it after him.Does any one have anything to add to this? Chris.
Please accept my apologise Tim,for not using your name when messaging you,I'm hopeless at this I'm afraid.I can't Waite to see what else you've got up your sleeve. Chris.
It's absolutely fantastic to see the photo of Dena Barnes, thanks for sharing it with all of us.I would also like to thank you for providing me with the Darrell Banks red and white stateside demo many years ago. Chris.
As a novice to Jamaican music, can anyone tell me the difference between Rock Steady and early Reggae, when reggae was using brass instruments,Reed instruments and strings. Thanks Chris.
I remember having a lengthy talk with Edwin in 2000 when he and Bill Randle brought JJ Barnes and Steve Mancha over to Birmingham. Not only was he a great singer,he was also Gentleman.
Does anyone have an idea as to why the running time on the west coast copy is 2.00 minutes and yet the east coast bell sound copy is 2.15. Many thanks.
As I said in a topic a few months ago, when talking about what music I like,I always use the word Soul, never Northern Soul.Talking about a singer like this on a Soul forum is an absolute Joke.
