  1. Someday - tempests - smash 14833 refosoul mmmmm......so Stafford! ...of course I play it off the album...that's why I spent the 50 quid 15 years ago or more!
  2. Merry-Go-Round - oscar perry - red sun 10-111 13647 refosoul Class!
  3. Hiya Woosy mate...Mark Jones here...yeh gotta love Merry go round! Here it is below!
  4. Can't believe nobody has mentioned this awesome track from '85. Just total class and unmistakably Oscar! was first introduced to the track by my mate the late Steve Plimmer from Shrewsbury. He just had one of those unique soul voices which you instantly knew who it was. Couldn't possibly be anyone else but Oscar Perry. Sadly missed, one of my all time heros! We're Gonna make it - oscar perry - quazar 102 13632 refosoul 1985 and total class!
  5. Oh The Lucky Charms! So takes me back to the Oddfellows allnighter in Leicester...happy times. Was the big record for The Rev Tony Clayton (features on my website too)....fab allnighter....my fav after Stafford where of course Tee Fletcher was a big sound for Keb!
  6. Yes that was me you were talking to in Melbourne mate, Mark Jones of Shrewsbury, just returned back to UK today. Just felt the need to add my condolences, a true gent indeed. Always had a smile for everyone. RIP Pedro.
  7. One on ebay at the moment, buy it now for $99.00! https://cgi.ebay.com/CHUCK-WALLACE-I-NEED-Y...6QQcmdZViewItem
  8. Whilst we are on the subject of 78's, anyone know anything about some 60's motown 78's released in the far east? Sure I remember reading something about it.
  9. Yeh was Deffo Keb "Shit Hot" Darge who played it at TOTW Stafford. Remember it well, loved the record at time and I was fit enough to dance to it too then! Was a bit of "New Sixties" fan at the time following Keb and Guy around like the proverbial lap dog! Sure I've got it on a live Stafford tape I did at the time somewhere...will try and dig it out and listen to all the scots expletives again! Here's a quick sample too for those who don't know it. 10. Love the record and still a relative cheapy. Can't believe nobody has mentioned a slowie I still adore to this day and have had it nearly 20 years! Joey Gee - It's More than I deserve (ABC) Loved this since I heard Mr Brady play it in the early eighties, think it was at one of The Hinckley Allnighters when I first heard it. I just had to have it!
  11. Mine has the above vki 10386 and 65vk636 in the run out as above too. Pretty sure this is orig, bought it just before it was pressed in the early 90's off Adey Pierce (or was it late 80's?...my mind is failing me these days!)
  12. Yes absolutely great! Nice to see our heroes and heroines in their prime of youth rather than middle or pension age!!! (Jeez Ms McNair was so damn cute...she was an actress after all I guess!) It's so easy to forget that our music was an upfront happening sound at one time. You have to bear in mind my first allnighter was in 1982 (well at least the live acts were only in their 40's and 50's then) but think we all forget this was a young Black American scene once not just a happening scene in the north west and midlands! It was going on in Detroit once too!!! It's nice to see this footage to remind us of that! Awesome historical footage! Thank you for sharing!!
  13. Well it's all pretty relative really. I'm a collector in little sleepy dreamy Shrewsbury and this is a town without a great soul following really (these days...with a few exceptions like Chic!) But as I have been collecting since I was 18 (now 42) and I hope I have enough originals to entertain a crowd and keep the floor full hopefully. So it will always be my best endeavour to play original vinyl whenever I can (as I've always bought the tracks I love on original) although I have never spent more than £250 on my individual vinyl so obviously I have a few gaps! But if someone requests a particular sound and the boot is in my box of course I will give it a spin as it's about entertaining the crowd not massaging my own ego. But if you want to hear that awesome fantastic rare sound then it's about travelling to see the DJ who posesses it...and of course that is part of the adventure!!! I know it was when I was driving to TOTW Stafford in the 80's to hear Pat, Keb, Guy and Dave! Knowing the DJ has it on that rare elusive label is still a massive turn on for a lot of us and well worth travelling a few miles!!
  14. one of my faves by Mr Jackson on VIP https://ic0htsk00.ic24.net/soulechoes/Chuck.ra
  15. Bought John Bowie for £3 in 1986 at TOTW Stafford. that was even cheap then...shoulda been £25 quid at least! Still got it too!
  16. Sorry got to mention William Lane jr...absolutely awsome 80's perfection! must love it..bought it in '89...been on my website for last 5 years at least too! https://ic0htsk00.ic24.net/soulechoes/William1.ra
  17. All this pigeon holing of music has always been a pain although we (yes me too) have always felt the need to do it even before modern (ooopsss.... sorry crossover these days...showing my age!), 100 mph, floater, midtempo etc etc. I blame Dave Godin for calling it Northern in the first place! lol But at least it makes it easier to tell your friends what music you like (but they still don't understand of course) Always think these dabates are a bit like discussing the pros and cons of the ref's decision in a footie match...we moan about it but secretly we love talking about it! How about a debate on indiviual northern genres? I started a few there floaters midtempo 100 mph and not forgetting nice (meaning great record you listen to in your front room discussing with your mates lol)............next please?
  18. Think we are getting carried away with all our personal fave soulsters.....but think the whole point is I think is if you hear a track you have never heard before i.e. for the first time (getting harder I know!) you instantly can tell who it is without asking!...it's richard caiton, jackie wilson. garland green etc etc....
  19. Remember seeing him at Chris King's Hinckley Leisure Centre do in about '84/85. He had George Foreman's sparring partner with him! Good show but had to read the words to most of his songs, then again it had been 20 years!
  20. Can you say 12 inch Erect on here? Thought I was in a different forum for a minute. Got one me myself (yes the record!!) which I bought back in '89 from a little Soul Shop in Croydon....used to be pretty good as I remember for modern stuff. Remember buying the modern take of Jackie Ross - Selfish One. and Tip Watkins - People Gonna Talk and a few other things pretty cheap. Still got em somewhere.
