  1. Finally got around to putting my old VHS tapes onto DVD and will eventually post the videos up once I've got them down to a smaller file size....hope to complete tonight so bear with me...just trying to find some free suitable software to do it! The videos are both from the 80's from the a certain well known public service broadcater. One off Midlands today (local news spot) at Loughborough Town Hall Allnighter (just after my 2 fav nighters had closed I think - Oddfellows at Leicester and TOTW Stafford) I remember going a few times, nice venue as I remember but only lasted a couple of years. The video chronicals the Northern Soul CESC vicar Rev Tony Clayton. The other is The Old Grey Whistle Test at Blackburn, I assume at Tony's Empress Ballroom although I went there a few times in late 80's it's all a bit of a blur (I wonder why ) But have to say it's probably the best video rendition of what the scene is all about, be it not perfect (especially bloody Mick Hucknall comaparing it to the early punk scene ffs, did try to edit him out but thought leave it in to stir some feeback lol) Anyway enough of my ramblings, Thought I'd give you a taster as I've mangeed to capture some images from said videos which like I said I hope to post up later. The pictures from Loughborough Include a young Ali Mayer and even younger Alan Walls! (both top DJ's in my opinion at the time. Respect to Alan for the long trip south so many times too!! ) Even Rob Smith looks younger! Alan Walls still DJ'ing? By the way apologies if they are already on youtube as I couldn't find em! Will post videos asap! Jonzy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Loughborough Stills He was 50 then and we all thought that was really old Bet you can guess the record (sugarhill label) Nice shot of the record bar and a certain Mr Smith! Why was Adam always on before me at Leicester? Mr Smith smiling! So was I as probably bought a fav record for £2! Oh so young Mr Walls! Is this you? ____________________________________________________________________ it's time for the Blackburn Vid stills: We were all so young! Take me up to the top of the stairs - to depart with my fiver! Mr Hennigan smokin! having a ciggie too! dancefloor Still smokin! records before the internet! wonder who this is looking happy? Dynamic soul duo? 8am and not happy Ciggie outside...it was voluntary then! Bit lighter now I've sold a few And finally....So tell me am I right is it Tony's Empress Ballroom...like I said it's all a blur!
  2. My multi coloured one which I bought for £6 in early 90's is slightly off centre...anyone got the same? Still playable if u line it up right just a bit difficuilt if you are DJ'ing and had 8 pints! P.S. I'll ask CC if it was him who played on 29th December!
  3. Is the venue pretty much as it was then all those years ago? In this credit crunch era I'm amazed but more relieved! C'mon promoters you just know you want to
  4. Got my Ohio Players Greatest Hits album on a trip to Wax trax in Denver many moons ago...got it back to UK in one piece and still have it to this day! The album also contains "I Gotta Get away" which is so brilliant too. Hear on refrosoul here
  5. Ooooh...have to agree with you there Ted! I bought a Jackie Wilson poster at Ron's Records in New Orleans about 16 years ago which I managed to get back to Shrewsbury in one piece! My then girlfriend framed it for me for my birthday and it has hung over my mantlepiece ever since! Still the best soul vocalist of alll time IMHO!
  6. Oooops...Now sorted. I obviuosly thought the receipt book was a bargain at $2,750.00! Well better than a 30p DVD+R!
  7. Is this guy joking or what? At first I thought a bit expensive for a few rare original promo photos from Motown but if rare maybe there's a market. But reading further it's a DVD of some scanned photos! View here item number 230400602614 I like the quote "The archival DVD will not require cold storage to maintain quality control"
  8. Yes did realise it wasn't as his title of course.....was just a topic title quote of his ebay listing "20 Motown Northern Soul Master Reels Unreleased " not the facts! An obvious title just to get our attention..then again maybe an obvious mistake (as we don't know the extent of his knowledge...he may have found them in a skip!) Whatever the reason there's some quality stuff on them, just great soul the 12 minutes I've heard. If nobody else bids I will!...Anyone got a reel to reel player I can borrow? lol Seriously though probably one for the Mr Croasdells and Ace records of this world to look at. Imagine if this was all on vinyl though...jeez....how many times would I need to remortgage? Must admit though I thought I was a vinyl freak (well which I am of course as have just bought the Imaginations rather than a dishwasher for the Mrs) but these original tapes do have a charm...think it's the "catching a point in history" and hearing the private chit chat in the studio...imagining I was there with them (which I'm sure we've all dreamt about..being in the studio when Jackie Wison, Sam Dees, Garland Green recorded etc etc !) Yes I am a big northern fan (as my collection reflects) but if true to myself more a soul fan (meaning if I like it I like it it doesn't have to be northern...generally is though ) and have to say I'd like to hear all 20 tapes! Can someone buy them and post them here please! If you do pm me ffs!
  9. Now that would be worth having if it is! Bloody 'ell wish I'd never posted this now lol shame it says 7/6/76 on it but you never know!
  10. I emailed the guy about this and he sent me an mp3 sample. Thought I'd share. What ya reckon? Some of it sounds bloody excellent to me! Any background on the tracks? Are they demo's of unreleased sounds? Some sound familiar but will leave it to those more knowledgable than me! tem number is 270481520628. email he sent me: "It's 11 minutes of short clips thrown together, there's 20 tapes so its hard to represent how awesome they are..especially the demo tape. thanks! bobby" No it's not me selling them! Just thought it may catch the imagination as it did mine! Jonzy ...see you at the Lord Hill Shrewsbury on December Tuesday 29th...guest COLIN CURTIS!!!
  11. Well if it's as cheap as Walter Jackson I can stretch to that!
