  1. fantastic mod/R&B sound: https://youtu.be/qsPYCKVufvg
  2. Taken now - thanks!
  3. You still after some decks mate? Might have a pair of Technics 1210s with a mixer in good nick in flightcases. Was supposed to sell them to someone else but he's wasting my time - gonna give him a couple more days to make his mind up then if he doesn't want them I'll PM you.
  4. Ah, same problem as I had with mine then! Took it off and one of the hinges went flying across the room never to be seen again. I've got this tt100 that just needs a bit of a clean and a new hinge for the lid if anyone wants it and can pick it up from Barnsley. The other one blew up on me in a puff of blue smoke, I have Technics 1210s now.
  5. I've got one although one of the brackets is missing so it doesn't lift up properly. Actual lid is intact though and if you like you can take the actual turntable too for spares as it's sat here doing nowt. Gordy
  6. By the way, I'm 44 and have been into the music for over 20 years but my partner prefers the social side of things.
  7. Local soul nights are okay as if you're new, you eventually get to know people but I've stopped going further afield as I was tired of sitting there all night with my partner and no one talking to us or even acknowledging us. We're friendly people and will talk to anyone but to me the scene isn't as friendly as people make it out to be and there's definitely a lot of cliques in some places and if you're not known you tend to feel unwelcome definitely.
  8. Sometime around 1992/93, I wondered who "C.Mayfield" was who popped up on the credits of a lot of Jamaican rock steady 45s. Bloke in Volume Records in Newcastle sold me a best of The Impressions album, then I got a best of Major Lance after that and that was me hooked.
  9. Dunno what the chap bleating on about has beens is on about. Myself, I'm 44 and went to my first soul night in the early 90s!!!!
  10. It was okay and a decent introduction for those who are new to the scene and music. I guess once new blood arrives on the scene then it's up to the rest of us to show them that there's a whole lot more to it than just Wigan and oldies.
  11. Here in Barnsley the local soul nights are all Wigan/oldies based. I tend to go for the social side of things rather than the music, lovely friendly people and it's a good night out don't get me wrong but the same Wigan oldies month in, month out. Quite a few younger people go along and they probably think that Northern soul is ONLY about Wigan and oldies. No disrespect to anyone, just saying my bit.
  12. Male: James Carr Oscar Toney Jr. Tommy Hunt Female: Doris Duke Etta James Big Maybelle
  13. Probably not much use to anyone who DJs on the "scene" but if you ever DJ to elderly Jamaicans, then you MUST own the original R&B version "Southway Park Mambo" by the Bop-A-Loos on Mercury!
  14. Also it's early reggae not rocksteady!
  15. Teddy Randazzo at the helm of course, we'd be here all night listing his great mid tempo and beat ballad stuff!
  16. I love me some mid tempo and beat ballads. Has this great tune ever been played out anywhere?
  17. Here's an old link to it from here: https://www.soul-source.co.uk/articles/soul-news/let-the-good-times-roll-full-rhythm-blues-radio-series-available-r1400
  18. National Public Radio in the US and it used to have its own website. It was broadcast around 2002/2003 I think.
  19. A great listen, thanks for posting! Has anyone got a link to the "Let The Good Times Roll" history of R&B series? The website for it is no longer active.
  20. Don't shoot the messenger!!!!
  21. Just got this back from my mate Brian who used to shop at the Isen's/King's place in the 60s: Yo G-Man, thanks for the heads up on that but I'm afraid he will have to read my book for any info on Rita & Benny. He starts out saying they ended up doing Irish music, well actually that's not true. They started out by selling Irish music and one of their biggest acts was Larry Cuningham.
  22. The UK reggae journalist Penny Reel would be able to tell you all about Benny and his wife Rita. I also know another guy who used to shop there in the 60s too. I'll get in touch with them for you.
  23. Pied Piper by a mile, all those classics on RCA.
  24. Lots of great repros of original posters on EBay - they look great framed on the wall. Cue the backlash from the "original posters only" crew lol........
  25. Mp3s have a place. For listening to at home or on an iPod. Not being played at a soul event. But, I don't mind if CDs are played as A) they're a physical format you can actually look at and hold and B) many great unissued tracks are on CD and deserve to be danced to in my humble opinion. Just to add, I mean proper well compiled and produced CDs like those from Ace/Kent et al, not 2.99 ones from the local garage.
