  1. I didn't get the subscription but had no problem buying the MPac double LP from a seller on Amazon about 5 weeks ago now. Seems strange that it's available from regular sellers but not from the label's subscription service....
  2. Levanna McLean? The lass can dance, I'll give her that but since when was she a DJ?????
  3. Of course. But if someone's gone the right way about re-issuing music and paid the correct people then they shouldn't be tarred with the same brush as the bootleggers.
  4. Legit reissue companies should start taking legal action against folks who call them bootleggers. They're being falsely accused of a crime.....
  5. <<<<< see my profile photo Taken at Birdwell Venue, Barnsley, a couple of years ago. Me, Melvin and his son Bryan. Still has an amazing voice in his early 70s and his son is a talented musician too, albeit in a heavy rock band.
  6. I'm far too young to know of Simon personally but have loved reading the stories about him from Frank(Ian) et al. I love characters and rogues and he seems to me that he was just that, a rogue. He didn't kill anyone, didn't rape anyone, etc. He ripped people off, yes and those he ripped off had/have a right to be angry of course but it would be great if he could tell his side of the story one day whether it be here, in a book, documentary. It won't happen on here though as people would just rip into him, same as they did with Ian Levine. Both men were important figures in the history of northern soul, love em or hate em. Don't let your hatred deny us younger ones the chance to hear/read/see the history of this great music and scene.
  7. I've also got a podcast playing JA stuff at www.djgreedyg.podomatic.com A few soul things up there too.
  8. I feel sick and numb. The R&B scene can be a daunting place if you're a newbie but one man always made me feel welcome and always had time for a chat and to answer my questions about any records I'd heard and/or wanted. Joe Dutton, Sheffield's finest. R.I.P. I didn't know Joe well, only meeting him at dos, but he was the sort of bloke that lit a room up and that wasn't just because of his loud shirts. Totally shocking news and my condolences go to his family and all that knew him.
  9. Currently featured on a DFS furniture ad on UK television. I guess any official release on 45 would be the first press?
  10. Was Uptight ever played out? I wasn't around on the scene back then but I'd guess that it was a mainstream Motown track rather than a Northern play?
  11. Chicago legend. Thinking of Billy and his family right now. Best wishes.
  12. More recently in the 2000s, Just A Boy's Dream - Phonetics. TSOP Longfield Suite, Prestwich.
  13. I think it's about time that the legal re-issue companies sued the arse off of people who call them bootleggers etc. That would kill a few egos......

  15. Someone make this a reality! So many documentaries and films about the scene, the fashions etc but we need a definitive documentary about the hunt that went on for the records.

  19. So, all repress albums are free? Great! Where do I get them? I've been paying £11 all this time.....
  20. A storm brewing over Scarborough's North Bay.
  21. Cheers Russell for the Bob Kayli suggestion, seems the most likely.
  22. What links rock and roll legend Buddy Holly to Motown? I bought Graham Betts' "Motown Encyclopedia" and it's a decent book to dip into and some great information but I'm totally bamboozled by the inclusion of Buddy Holly. Motown wasn't even a month old when he died. Anyone know the link? Cheers.
  23. One of THE great groups. Sublime harmonies and many of their tunes were covered in Jamaican music as they were looked upon as equals of the Temptations at al down there.
  24. Panic over, sent in seperate packages so I don't get hammered by customs!!!!
  25. Also sent a photo of the package with just the one book in it to be on the safe side.
