  1. Little Caesar's fantastic doo wop version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUepTnW7X-A
  2. Mr Cuerden, you only live about 5 miles from me. The place is a pigsty at the moment due to decorating and other things (like having four grown up stepdaughters living here) but once my music room is fully functional again please feel free to pop over for a cuppa and a listening session. Gordy
  3. https://detnews.com/article/20100304/ENT04/3040581/1424/ENT04/Ron-Banks-of-The-Dramatics-dies Article has him as 58 even. It's usually the case when someone passes that their real age differs amongst different sources.
  4. Ruby Andrews just posted on her Facebook page that Ron Banks, legendary lead singer of the Dramatics, has passed away in Detroit at the age of 59. R.I.P.
  5. I might take a punt on some from John Powney seeing as you can pick what type of sound you want. It's to build my meagre collection which still only stands at around 200 originals (none over 50 quid) and around 100 pressings. (You should see my ska and reggae collection though ) G
  6. Are the record packs some dealers sell worth the price? 100 45s for £100 looks good on paper but I don't fancy 100 crap records for the money. I'd be happy if there's at least 20 to 30 decent tunes in there.
  7. Listening in, nice selection of tunes - love the version of "Just My Imagination"! Also good to get a bit of insight into Yocky the man rather than Yocky the DJ, what a top top bloke and I hope the Air ambulance makes a small fortune. Can't wait til the 27th, just one problem though....... I wanna be in all four rooms at once!!!!! Gordon
  8. Andy Dyson - always plays a great set full of tunes I've never heard before that make my hair stand up on end. Can't comment on the past as I never started on the scene til 1998. Gordon
  9. Just to add, when I lived in rural Northumberland I'd get a lift and travel to places such as Prestwich, Sheffield City Hall, Loughborough Uni, Tony's in Blackburn, Sheridan's at Dewsbury, Cala Gran weekenders at Fleetwood and even as far as Bridgewater in Somerset for one do. Problem these days is that I'm not single anymore and the missus ain't really a soulie and will only let me travel locally.
  10. I only have just under a mile to walk to get to the Stormin Soul Niters in Barnsley and a 10 minute taxi ride to nights at the Metrodome. A similar distance to the Trades, Kingstone, etc but haven't been there yet. It's great having so much soul literally right on your doorstep. Who can beat a mile to their nearest niter? Gordon
  11. Cheers! Anyone know about the BB King?
  12. Hi, can someone give me the prices on these two? B.B.King - Bad Case Of Love (Kent) Paul Williams Orchestra - I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire (Ascot) Cheers Gordon
  13. It was the internet that got me onto the soul scene via the old KTF e-mailing list. I made a lot of good friends and acquaintances through there and we used to hang out in Mick Fitz's Night Owl chatroom and have some great laughs. Then I had heart trouble (and I don't mean the Parliaments 45) and took 6 years off due to that and other personal circumstances and only recently started going out again. Now either no one knows me or doesn't remember me so the last few nights I've attended I've kinda felt a bit lonely despite the music being great. I miss the whole social side of things. It's good to use sites like this one to catch up on what's going on and long may it continue. Gordy (ex-Newcastle, now Barnsley - did his knee in at Lougborough Uni while spinning if anyone remembers lol)
  14. Another good reggae forum is Chatty Mouth. https://djgreedyg.proboards.com/ I started it about 4 years ago now and while it doesn't have the membership numbers of somewhere like SS, it's almost 900 now and there's a steady flow of traffic. I don't run it anymore but might know a man who helps out G
  15. Playing boots Span mate?
  16. Barnsley Metrodome. Well, it's the ONLY major venue I've been to this year after deciding to go out again after health problems, but it's one I will visit again and again.
  17. I'm broke myself Pete mate (2 months behind on the rent) but I get my next lot of Student Finance in 3 week's time so can throw in a tenner then. I don't know John personally but he sounds like a great bloke so happy to help. Gordy
  18. Simon you're a top top bloke. Haven't seen you since that time I crushed you by jumping off the balcony at Imber but it's about time I bought you a pint. Are you going to the Stormin Soul niter in Barnsley next month? Gordy (ex-KTF and Mick's Night Owl Chatroom)
  19. Couple of biographies that are top reads. "Rage To Survive" - Etta James with David Ritz. "Only The Strong Survive" - Jerry Butler. G
  20. Used to chat to Alan on the old KTF e-mail site. Top bloke. My condolences to his family and friends. R.I.P. Gordon
  21. Diskunion.net in Japan seems to have them (along with most issues of There's The Beat!). Anyone know how to go about ordering from Japan? Cheers Gordon
  22. Still going strong, 2 hours of the finest ska, rocksteady, reggae and soul around - something for everyone and not a dancehall record in sight! Also check Kollectors Corner on Sunday nights from 11pm to 2am UK time playing ska, rocksteady, beat ballads, doo wop and sweet 70s group soul - chilled out music for "old folk" G
  23. Soul will still be going strong for generations to come, there are many 20 somethings into it now and I'm getting my 1 year old step-grandaughter into it, she was bobbing her head to some Motown classics this morning. When she's a bit older I'll start playing her oldies, rare soul, R&B, a bit of modern and tell her that it's ALL soul. Maybe when she starts going to niters in her 20s all this oldies vs rare vs modern vs CDs vs vinyl vs north vs south vs the kitchen sink crap will have evaporated into the annals of time and people will venture to soul events just to have a good time eh? Gordon
  24. I'm after volumes 3&4 too, can anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers Gordon
  25. Hi All You can now find me on www.reggaeworldmusic.com on Thursday nights at 9pm UK time, Jamdown Got Soul with DJ Greedy G playing the best in classic ska, rocksteady, reggae, 50s US R&B and beat ballads for the big people dem. RWM is the biggest reggae only station on the net and they had Tony Screw from Downbeat sound system as a guest the other week and Winston "Merritone" Blake has also guested in the past. Cheers G
