Just found this one at the weekend, I'm not exactly a big northern soul man but I was wondering if it ever got played out and about, or would it go in Pete's "white pop shit" dustbin. Either way, I like it..
I've just finished my copy of Detroit 67, whilst I enjoyed it I won't be reading it again. If anyone wants it I'll be happy to pass it on for the price of the postage.
Edit: It's taken now.
Funnily enough I spent three quid yesterday on these......
£1
and
£2
Both a bit dirty but VG+
Happy days.
Edit: Just remembered, I also got The Blackbyrds - "The Baby" for a quid on Saturday.
My daughter was complaining after I dragged her into the umpteenth charity shop the other day, I had to explain how it's like panning for gold... weeks of sifting through crap to find that nugget. I find you're better off in general second hand / antique shops, car boot sales or charity shops rather than actual record shops though. Over the last year alone I've found dozens of gems for a couple of quid or less.
Never heard that version mate, beautiful. I'm sure no one would agree with me but my favourite is actually the Ramsey Lewis cover, I am more of a funk and jazz man though.
Nice! Always liked Windy C but I haven't heard the rest of the LP.
Here's one of my favourites from that era - is it funk, disco, soul? Probably all of them, but it's getting a lot of plays in my house whatever.....
It's been on my wants list for years, but what can you do? So many records, so little money!
Last time I almost bought it I opted for "What color is Love" instead... A fantastic album, with this amazing and epic song....
Here you go Hullsoul, first up the other soul influenced ones.....
The rest are more like this......
Everyone else: Sorry about all the latin, I'll stop now.
I'll have a listen tonight and choose a few...... you've already got the best two though. The others are a bit less soully and more typical NY latin.
I dunno if you're interested in re-issues but they just got some back in stock in Sounds of the Universe, cheap as chips.
Wanted :
Mighty Ryeders - The Mighty Riders / Star Children 7"
or
Mighty Ryeders - Evil Vibrations / Star Children 7"
or
Mighty Ryeders - Help us spread the message LP
Basically, I'm after Star Children
Thanks!
Once the daughter's in bed about 8.30ish I get my headphones out pretty much every night for an hour or so. I can't think of a better way to wind down. Even after quite a few years of DJ retirement I still occasionally find myself making selections based on what would make a good set, imagining the crowds reaction, what would go with what etc.
Last night involved a bit of Jazz-funk inspired by the other thread.
One thing I'm not going to do after staring at a monitor all day at work is switch my laptop on.
