  1. Has to be "As" for me, although I prefer the Gene Harris version.
  2. The earliest one I can think of (at least it sounds vocodered) is Mandrill - Dirty Ole Man from the Beast From the East LP 1975 or Ohio Players - O-H-I-O from Angel LP 1977 More funk though I suppose.
  3. I strongly disagree, different horses for different courses and all that.
  4. I’m after the El Barrio DJs 12” on G.A.M.M. Records (Flo Sanders etc) If anyone could help that would be awesome, I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks.
  5. Cheers Josep, of course you are correct, it was Martine Girault, featuring those lovely mellow keyboards sampled from Tom Scott. I'd say I've got more LPs by Ramsey Lewis than any other artist (apart from maybe Herbie Hancock) He's the master of all styles of jazz and funk from the 60's to the 80's!
  6. Yeah, I bought a french Big Cheese compilation LP in the 90's with that one on it, I loved the style of spacey jazz funk so much I hunted down all the original LPs (apart from one or two). What stands out for me on "After the Rain" is the amazing drumming, I'm sure you've noticed as well being a breaks man.
  7. I had a bit of a soundtracky session myself on Saturday night, including the aforementioned "Cheetah"... not much soul in there mind.... David Newman - Shiloh Quincy Jones - Snow Creatures (The Heist OST) Frank Strazzeri - Cloudburst Serge Gainsbourg - La Horse Mandingo - The Cheetah Johnny Harris - Stepping Stones Charles Kynard - Smiling Faces Sometimes Johnny Hammond - Los Conquistadores Chocolatés On Sunday I felt the need for a bit of musical sunshine though...... The Reflections - She's my Summer Breeze Roy Ayers - Everybody Loves the sunshine Lowrell - Mellow Mellow Gene Harris - Losalamitoslatinfunklovesong (Bugz in the attic mix) Kool and the Gang - Summer Madness Martine Gialt - Revival Bobbi Humphrey - Harlem River Drive Sivuca - Ain't No Sunshine Ramsey Lewis - Sun Goddess Cameo - The Sound Table
  8. Some of it certainly is! Have you got the "Sacrifice" LP? Love "The Cheetah" and funnily enough I played it at the weekend too, I'll note 'em down later.
  9. LOL, no, not the snake, even worse..................... jazz. (although I'm not ashamed to say I like The Snake, but I haven't got the Northern soul background so there's a bit less "baggage" associated with it for me)
  10. Cheers fellas, I'll probably go for the first first then, I really like those two songs I mentioned. Soulsides, your "New Bell" pick encouraged me to get my Soul Makossa LP out last night, although I had a listen to the fantastic "Nights In Zeralda" which led me onto a more "exotic" playlist that probably isn't quite suitable for this forum.
  11. Right up my street that. I meant to ask you if you would recommend a particular Chocolate Milk LP? I got "Action Speaks Louder Than Words" 7' and I know "Time Machine" but I'm wondering if any LP of theirs stand out in particular? Cheers!
  12. On the other side of the coin to the unscrupulous sellers..... I put a derisory bid of 1.99 (the minimum) for a NM Mongo Santamaria LP recently, surprisingly I won. The bloke must have expecting more for it and had listed it as free postage, so after paying to send it me he would have been one or two quid down.

  14. Are you sure? Did you spot that it's the 7" Box set?

  17. Cheers for the answers... especially pointing out the import charges, I hadn't spotted that one. I also didn't know it is a styrene version, something else I'm not too keen on, I might hold fire until another version comes up.
  18. I was thinking of buying this for my birthday present (to myself!)...... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wendy-Rene-After-Laughter-NM-Stax-What-Will-Tomorrow-Bring/202149999240?hash=item2f11143288:g:10EAAOSwAC1aNWjB I've got no reason to think it's dodgy but it does seem cheaper than the normal issues I've seen. Not being an expert, and after looking at the comedy sale page, I thought I'd ask those more knowledgeable than myself if it looks legit? Cheers.
  19. Best 45 bought, best bargain, book read , best comp cd, best event, the funniest laugh of 2017 Best 45 - Mad Lads - Sugar sugar / Get out of My Life Woman - I was after this for a long time but I've rarely seen it, until I found it my my local second hand emporium for £2 NM. Best LP - Larry Ridley - Sum of the Parts - One for the Jazz funkers. Been after this for years too but couldn't afford it, didn't tell the Mrs what I paid for this one but it's a NM Strata East original. Best TV - Game of Thrones - again.
  20. A good cover has got to add something to the original.... Steve Khan - Darlin Darlin Baby Good - Sergio Mendes & Brasil 77 - After Midnight No video for this one but it's joyous cheese! Good - Kimiko Kasai - Use Me I would
  21. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Fatback-Band-Keep-On-Steppin-west-germany-LP-1989-1-with-label-error/253240621740?hash=item3af6513aac:g:jBkAAOSwy0JZ~H3a Who wants a near mint original for £40 when you can have a partially unplayable reissue for £400?
  22. Bit obvious, but you can't leave her out.
  23. This one landed on my door mat this weekend. (I'm sure it's different to the version I heard years ago - with added horns for additional funkyness!)
  24. I also picked up a nice mint UK original copy of Charlie Palmieri's "Latin Bugalu" LP. I've got some of Eddie Palmieri's stuff but not Charlie's, this LP's a real peach!
  25. Picked up Marie Lyon's LP "Soul Fever" at the weekend cheap as chips in a second hand shop (the 2000 reissue of course, I'm not that lucky).
