Venue Prices
Yes £2 was a bargain, but don't forget that all the Djs gave their time for free for PTPs 50th birthday. Most of us don't get paid too often anyway. At Soul in the City we always paid our guests, except at our All Dayers which were either free entry or in aid of charity and that included the likes of Kenny Burrell and Ady Croasdell! When turnouts are poor I've waived any promised fees as well. It's nice to get paid and most promoters do pay when they have a healthy turn out. I've only been to one do this year which I thought was overpriced but it was still a reasonable per hour cost. £10-12 for an all nighter isn't bad all things considered.

Anyone else have one of these with the surname spelt Ouestell ? Or is this the reason for the scarcity of the issue?

David Peaston - God Bless The Child
Cheers D'arcy. I have a box of VHS videos at my Dad's house from before I got divorced in 1997. It might be on one of them. I'll have a look at some stage. In the meantime if anyone else knows where to find a copy.......

David Peaston - God Bless The Child
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0Qwl39ADmE Back in the late 80s I came home from the pub, swithced on the TV and found "Saturday Night at the Apollo" on Channel 4. In the talent spot David Peaston was performing the attached song - Billie Holiday's "God bless the child" - although this isn't from the programme. What a voice! A cousin of Fontalla Bass. He won the talent show for a large number of weeks and got a record deal on the strength of these performances. He came over to the UK to promote his debut album and I managed at the last moment to get a couple of tickets for the back row of the Hammersmith Odeon performance supporting Gerald Alston (ex Manhattans). Both artists were superb and both performed songs or part of song without theaid of a microphone. In the back row you could hear every word. If anyone has the video of the Apollo show I would very much appreciate seeing it again as the version above although great, pales into insignificance in comparison. I hope you enjoy it.

Coasters - Crazy Baby. Boot/original?
Definitely a vinyl boot. The lighting shop in Petticoat Lane in London was selling them around 74-75. Sound quality was OK if I remember rightly. Sold mine a few years ago when I got a DJ copy.
