Legendary singer Frankie Beverly dies at the age of 77..
Span replied to De-to's topic in All About the SOUL
If that's what you wanted, is and always has been my favourite NS song of all time, just everything about it is what I love about the music, I love his other early stuff, and his Maze music. A big shock to me and a sad loss the soul family, and of course his family & friends Rest in peace Frankie -
I'm in, although I will be checking near the bottom of the league if my past experiences are anything to go by.................

I got mine made to measure in 1977 from spencers, 38 inch bottoms and remember they had a couple of the patches in tartan ( no idea why ) and different coloured material at the bottom to make them flares, I must have looked a proper Charlie in them, I think they cost me £22 Inc postage. I wish I still had them just to show the grandkids

What are the times for collecting the wristbands today ? Please ignore, Times are at top of the post !! -
I have 2 tickets for the Blackpool weekender at the end of April but due to circumstances we can't attend the event. Happy to let the 2 tickets go for £30.00 for the pair. ( half price ) If interested, PM me, or e-mail to nealspencer61@gmail.com Regards Neal.

Another cracking night at the parklands, great music and a good crowd, the perfect blend. You really should try it out !! Neal.

A brilliant night at the Parklands, great music and terrific dancefloor, well attended which made for a fantastic atmosphere. We will be there again on the 26th March Neal & Sharon.
-
Good night at the Parklands again, a few more through the door would have helped the atmosphere but I enjoyed the music yet again.

The most expensive pair I bought from Spencer's I designed myself , 42inch bottoms, 5 pleats down the side & 6 small pockets on the back ( well I was only 17 ) cost me £50 ( was earning £26 a week ) and first time I wore them was to a mates wedding , ran for the bus and caught my foot in them, took the knee clean out of them and never wore them again . Absolutely gutted my mates still remind me of it when were out !

I remember the Spencer bags, and had 3 or 4 pairs made to measure around 1976 _ 1978 including a pair of 40 inch patchwork denim. Never saw another pair ( unsurprisingly when I think of it ) but wasn't that the point, we just wanted to be different !!!

Frank Beverly - Which was played 1st, Gamble or Sassy
Span replied to Bo Diddley's topic in Look At Your Box
I've no idea if my Sassy copy was part of those 500/800/1000 ? from Neil rushton, bought mine from a lad from London in approx 1978/79 for a fiver. I still have it and it's always been one of my top five . -
It would be my Sassy copy, Frankie Beverly " if that's what you wanted" , bought it for a fiver in 1977 at Lilleshall ( where the England football team used to train) and it's still my favourite !!! it would definitely be last man standing Neal.

Star wars theme , Meco, played over & over cos people were dancing to it in circa 1977/78.

Sold mine 2 years ago ( Vinyl in ex condition but some writing on A side ) for £600 , I have owned it since it came out. wasn't a big fan of either side so happy to move it on to someone who liked it. ! Neal.

Parklands in donny, just brilliant. Can't wait to get back on it sometime !!!! Neal.

Me & the missus are thinking of attending a weekender and as I haven't been to one since the late seventies I'm not sure which one would best suit our taste in music. We go to a few local events that play mostly northern/motown/club classics etc so that sort of play list would be ideal. I'm not into the rare & underplayed stuff, and want to mostly hear sounds we might know so any advice would be welcomed. I live in Doncaster but willing to travel for a good event. ! Thanks Neal

Hi Rob, I have one of these, it may be a couple of days before I can find it and confirm the condition if your still looking by then ? Neal.

Would have been about 1975 when some of the older lads started to play some northern at the youth club I went to. Also had an older brother who was into the four tops/temptations/sam cooke so it was one step further for me into the northern arena. Then started to go to the local working mens club every Tuesday with a bunch of mates which played mainly northern and got to know the tunes Happy days !! Neal

The two most precious records that mean the most to you
Span replied to carl baxter's topic in Look At Your Box
If that's what you wanted - Frankie beverly Nothing can Compare to you - Velvet satins Pretty much some up why I love this music ! Neal. -
Sent a valuable 45 to a buyer in Germany recently and using the royal mail tracker it was showing in Lochowo which is in central Poland, then it went further into Poland to another depot at Strickow and twice more between these 2 places. ( good job I packaged it up robustly ) Royal mail said they couldn't help until it is over a month but I sent an email to German delivery partner . They replied and record got to destination 2 days later only for it to be undelivered and held !! Buyer finally got the record 3 weeks later and all ok thank god Royal mail were frigging useless. Most I've paid was a tenner for Frankie beverly if that's what you wanted on sassy in 1977 at lilleshall near the Welsh border where the England team used to train ( I was there on a weeks table tennis coaching ) Found the lad I bought it off and his mates rummaging through our rooms the next day looking for it ( got sent home early for what happened to them ) Still got the record and in great condition Neal

I'm from Donny but only a bairn in the 60s but the attic changed names a few times in the 70s and was known as the club where the best music was played. There were others that played more Mod & club stuff like the Top Rank and in the late seventies the " outlook " and " kings head " had soul nights . My top donny northern club ( apart from Toll-bar youthie ) was the Bentley comrades club where I heard the latest tunes and cut my teeth on the dance floor. Still can't remember who the DJ was but bought most of my records there ! Neal
