  1. Used to see Frank regularly at the Mecca - he used to write an events type 'diary' for Blues and Soul ( I seem to remember) + details of the events he visited + the people he met. For the folk on here with the old B&S ( Rob Wigley got all mine!!!) you should be able to find a reference to my wife's bottom being nice!!! ( all these years later, it's still not bad). Last time I saw Frank was at the filming of SWONS at the Victoria & Albert Hotel in Manchester - had a good chat about the old days and also met up with the likes of Kegsy, Andy Simpson, Rob Bellars etc etc before doing our bit for Mr Levine! Julian
  2. Used to see him/them on a regular basis in and around Leeds/Halifax - Morley Town Hall was a regular haunt around '67 with them appearing fairly regularly along with other groups Root & Jenny Jackson, Victor Brox and his Blues train etc etc. For the scooter boys, I used to travel on a blue and white Lambretta GT200 - wonder where it is now? Happy days Julian
  3. Hi Benji PM'ed you JulianB
  4. --> QUOTE(mark.b @ Sep 7 2006, 06:03 PM) link if they are your records then in a dustbin would be best mark Sounds like a guest spot at the Greatstone is out of the question then!!?? Julian
  5. Stupid question I know, but what's the best way to store 45s and LPs? Flat, upright, at an angle? Thanks
  6. Hi Ian seem to remember Ian Dewhirst's dad owned the company that Graham Slater worked for and it was Graham DJing at the staff Xmas parties that got 'Frank' interested in NS. Went to his house in Mirfield a few times to sell him stuff in the early days. The West Indian Club in Huddersfield was on Venn Street ( just along from Lord Jim's where I DJed 1969-1971 or '72) - Twink probably played the stuff I lent him!! The OOTP 45s were all plain white labels ( well, the ones I remember anyway) Julian
  7. Used to buy these wholesale from Chris Burton at 50p a time. As I was building a house at the time, I was not going to soul do's ( and didn't again until 1998!!). Used to give them to a guy called Ian Bottomley (aka Twink) who knocked them out at Wigan for £1 a go along with emidiscs to order at £5 a time ( I did have a few goodies to copy in those days) Anyone remember him doing the business? Julian
  8. Hi Pete they usually fetch around £40 on ebay. Julian
  9. Someone asked recently if this existed. Just spoken to Johnny Mutton & Paul Tindale in Barrow who confirm that they owned a copy of this. Bought at the Mecca for £30 ( thought it was from someone from London) and sold on to the one and only Mr Simon Soussan.
  10. I have one of these green copies in styrene. The deadwax has a MR stamp 64973 ( Jan 67?) + HB-11531-1 a W and an XT and reads PLUG SIDE on the right above the 698 and PROMOTIONAL NOT FOR SALE. under the times etc on the right hand side. Under Luther Ingram it reads ' Distributed by ATCO RECORD SALES 1841 Broadway,N.Y.,N.Y. If I could work out this new scanner I would send a scan. About 2 years ago ( when I had the old scanner) I sent a scan to JM who said he thought it was a 'real one' Does anyone know different or can shed light on this? Thanks
  11. Strange, as I'm reading this, I'm listening to the Kittens Wait a minute on a compilation tape I've just done for a pal! The SWONS?
  12. Picked a UK King copy up last year off ebay for the bargain price of £99 - I was the only bidder!! sold the import for £50 - they come up fairly regularly at this sort of price, so you should be about to pick one up pretty easily.
  13. JM has a Sherrys on his latest list and says he would have auctioned it, if it hadn't been 'polished'. What exactly does this mean and how can you tell is a 45 has been 'polished'? Also, how much do you think a Mint- unpolished original of this oldie is worth?
  14. Jackson Sisters - Shake her loose UK Mums ( I think) Anyone help me keep her quiet? Julian
  15. Mine looks like the one in the photo but has the tiny matrix stamp on both sides and KB 200 A in the deadwax. Question:- If someone is prepared to pay that sort of money for a 45, surely they would check with the seller on all the known relevant facts as to it's authenticity ( as per Mr Maships guide)
  16. Can anybody help with these;- Mel Britt - She'll come running back Rita & Tiaras - gone with the wind Danny Monday - baby without you Bobby Kline - Say something nice to me ORIGINAL ISSUES ONLY PLEASE Payment by Cash, cheque, paypal, credit card Give me a PM or at jcbb@soultime.freeserve.co.uk
  17. Dave Rivers @ £65 I have his number if you want it.
  18. Hi Ian The door staff there are really up their own a---s - talk about being awkward. I think Terry and Lynne need to sort this out with the authorities ( although it's probably outside their jurisdiction) Ginger did not seem happy when he finally got in!!!!! Where were you? I was in the 'record foyer' all night and didn't spot you! Julian
  19. Picked one up for £450 recently but agree with Chalky, have seen as high as £700. Smithy had one the other week at £500 and there's one on ebay at moment - was $580 I think last time I looked.
  20. Dave Rivers has been doing acetates with 'lookalike' Canadian Tamla labels ( the black, red and white thing) - may have confused people into thinking it was a legit 45
