I'm Just A Wood's Paper Bag
Hi derek thought they had a branch in Bradford on Sunbridge Road ( just down from the Co-op in Sunwin House). Also, one in Cleckheaton ( which I used to raid in the late 60s) on the way home from Grammar School. Julian

Thanks Dave, better NOT put it in the playbox, or I might get lynched! Great tune by the way. Thanks for 'finding' it. Julian

Ad-libs
This was the first ever 'cover-up' I can remember. Dave Godin gave it to John Bollen/Franny Francisco to get played around West Yorkshire at clubs like Lord Jims, Hernies, Victory Lounge, The Wellington etc. As you say, spine tingling music. Now to soul club to give it a listen! Julian

Double Decker Disco
Sorting some old papers out and came across the wife's old Wheel and Torch membership cards + the one listed above. It's yellow, dated on the top 27.11.70 with some sort of motif in the top r'h corner. The strange thing is under the Double Decker Disco title it reads " This ticket to be exchanged with waitress for evening meal or to be deducted from the grill menu" - yeah, like we were going to be eating!!!!! Overleaf it simply says FRIDAY with the written number 178. I can only think this is a 'Blue Orchid' card. Can anyone confirm? TIA Julian

Larry Hammond
Thanks for the information everyone. Reason for asking, was that I was playing a what I thought was a blank B side of a 45 to a LP track only I had cut to play out, and this track has been cut on the B side!) The strange world on Northern Soul !! Gonna play it at Barrow in Furness Charity do tomorrow night. Julian

When Is A Vinyl Carvers Appropriate
Talking to a fellow collector today, he informed me that he had just supplied Butch with an emidisc of an unreleased tune that he intends to start playing. Imagine his horror when I told him he had provided one to me about 3 years ago as a B side to an LP track only A side he got done for me ( I don't normally carry LPs around to 'play out'). Now waiting for the aforementioned B side to go big. Could be a bit of profit in it! Julian

The Ritz Closure
Spoke to Ginger Taylor on Thursday at the Funk Brothers Concert - he told me there is massive opposition to the Ritz being demolished and that it appears to currently have a 'stay of execution', so could be open for a long time yet.

Whatever Happened To Geoff Killick
Hi Tone yep, remember Geoff - everything he had was 35p - he didn't have a telephone at the time so I used to send him a telegram stating ' money in post, don't sell anything yet!' Got some great stuff - Dalton Boys, Marlena Shaw, Bobby Freeman etc etc. This was at the time when I was spending at least an hour a day on the phone to Ian Levine checking what new sounds he was going to 'break' at the Mecca that weekend. Happy days!! I thought his dad was a diplomat in Washington and Geoff visited him regularly and brought the stuff back with him. Julian

Richard Selwood - Gloucester
Hi Steve excellent information, it's always good to find out who first discovered some of the old classics. Was I correct in thinking that Richard only collected english stuff for his personal collection? Cheers Julian
-
Richard Selwood - Gloucester
Sounds like he is/was a pal of Mr Levine then!
-
Richard Selwood - Gloucester
I was discussing english collectors yesterday with alan Pollard and I mentioned the above guy and alan didn't know of him. I seem to remember he was from the Gloucester or Cheltenham area and collected in the late 60s'early 70s ( used to see him at the Torch etc). Never bought an import just english and he did sales lists. Does anyone else remember him, or is he still around? Julian
