There's a soul "party" at Beauty Bar (14th Street between 2nd and 3rd) on Thursday night, July 2. Not sure who the DJ's are, but it should be a fun night since many people are off work on Friday.

Ideals "Go-Go Gorilla" Satellite. Please message with condition and price.

Surely, you mean Shirley Johnson. Saw it in a box all by itself at the WFMU record fair, but thought it was $900? And didn't think it was mint. But I wasn't really paying attention. Too many naughts for my wallet last week.

Rita & The Tiaras Original On E-Bay $3,850 And Still 5 Days To Go,
solidhit replied to De-to's topic in Look At Your Box
And Del Reeves headed for the "R&B" charts. Manual typesetter probably had no idea which artists belonged in which group. But all those great records came out at the same time! Jeanette Williams, Casualeers, Rita & Tiaras, Hesitations, Sam & Irridescents, Debonaires on Solid Hit! -
Rita & The Tiaras Original On E-Bay $3,850 And Still 5 Days To Go,
solidhit replied to De-to's topic in Look At Your Box
Billboard reviewed Rita and the Tiaras in February of 1967. Actually, there're quite a few items of interest in this issue: -
I thought he overstated the Herb Johnson record quite a bit ("We consider this TOXAN copy a top-trophy"), given the horrible writing on the label. Shame, too, as I think a copy in better condition could have fetched quite a bit more. Overall, a lackluster group of records on auction this week.
-
Mamie Galore seems relatively inexpensive. I sold a spare a few years ago for double that amount.
-
Surely the Dushons is a relatively common record! There are at least a dozen copies listed at collectorsfrenzy. Cheapest on Down to Earth at $18 and the most expensive on Go Gate at $133.

The Rouser label has the Fairmount release number on it. Tommy Rouse gets a credit on the label, probably for editing the sax solo. There's just something very fishy about the whole thing. My hunch is that the record sold poorly on Fairmount and when Frankie was down in the DC area performing met up with Tommy Rouse who offered to press up and distribute his own version of the record, not fully understanding whether it was legal to do so or not. Also, it abbreviates QuakerTown to QT, which I doubt the original QuakerTown producers would have approved of.
-
Am I the only person here to believe the Rouser release of Frankie Beverly is some sort of later reissue?

As flattered as I am to be mentioned here, Tim was finding great records for 20 years before I met him. And even when I was sending him records on regular basis, he still found plenty on his own. I've certainly found a few good unknown things over the years, but only a tiny fraction of the tunes Tim has unearthed.

There was a kickstarter campaign on 2012 to fund the completion of this book. I made a pledge at the time, but the funding was unsuccessful. Glad to see it's been completed and is now available! Sadly, Rose Marie apparently passed just a couple of weeks ago: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/01/arts/music/rose-marie-mccoy-a-songwriter-for-rock-pop-and-jazz-legends-dies-at-92.html?ref=obituaries&_r=0 Apologies if this was already posted here.

John Manship Auction Results 4 -2 - 2015
solidhit replied to JOE TORQUAY's topic in Look At Your Box
If you read closely, he's not saying Billy Thompson is one of only a handful. He's stating that Wand is a label where some releases are known only by a handful of copies... He doesn't get into the Billy Thompson-specific gibberish until after the profuse preface. -
Thanks very much for sending it. I've forwarded it to a friend who was looking. Thanks.

Recommended New Book - Al Lewis Band Leader Of Tsu's
solidhit commented on Dave Thorley's article in News Archives
Just read a few excerpts, and I hate to say this, but I think time may have gotten the better of Mr Lewis's memory. While I realize that every band member will have his own personal take on the history of the group, I found a few questionable statements in the bits I read. It won't keep me from buying the book, and it will be interesting to see how his viewpoint differs from what Cal Thomas and Jerry Jenkins told me when I met them many years ago in Houston. But when I read statements like " 'Love is gonna rain on you' was the original A-side to 'Tighten Up' ", I have to wonder what else is factually wrong in the book. -

Vintage 1960's/70's 45Rpm Record Boxes/cases
solidhit replied to solidhit's topic in General Sales & Wants
Not sure why I wasn't notified there was a reply to my post, and I'm only just seeing this now. re: "In your dreams..." I didn't say I wasn't willing to pay for them. Not quite sure why you feel the need to imply I wouldn't pay a fair price. Your definition of "silly money" may be different than mine. So far I've purchased 2 boxes from 2 different peole and have been happy with the prices I paid. My request still stands. I'm interested in buying interesting, colorful record boxes from the 1960s and 70s that hold 30 or fewer records. If you have any you'd like to part with, please send a photo of the box and the amount you want for it. -
Darrell Banks - Open The Door To Your Heart 2014 London

This article states that the Frank Wilson which was auctioned a few years ago went to a collector in Hull. Was that common knowledge? Didn't think the identity or location of the winner was ever publicized. Remember at the time there was speculation that the winning bid was from Germany or the US. -
I'm looking for bright/colorful 7" 45rpm record boxes from the 60's and 70's. Must be in excellent condition. Prefer boxes that hold 30 or fewer records. Can be constructed of cardboard, metal, or vinyl, but need to be brightly colored, preferably with interesting graphic designs or flower-power motifs. I've seen interesting ones from Italy and Holland, so if you have any like that, please let me know. Please PM with photo(s) of box and price. Will need to be shipped to the USA in time for Christmas.

A few of these look like they were from the Dobard load. Cautions, Servicemen, Troy Dodds, Kenny Sheppard, Int'l GTOs, Bobby Reed were all things that surfaced back when Ray Dobard's warehouse was auctioned off several years ago in California. I'm surprised any of these records are left. Would have thought they'd all disappeared into collections by now.

PM with price and condition. Yes, I know Manship has one for auction now, but that'll go for silly money. Only want one for a reasonable price.
