  1. Sorry if the question(s) was a bit confusing, could be me thinking in Norwegian, but trying to write English , but Spacehopper and Nubian75soulsis did give me some good answers. Of our 1500 members at Oslo Soul Experience only 3 or 4 is black. Of all "known" and "big" soul DJ's I've met or heard of, only one is black. All the big collectors/dealers I know are white. And not forget the people who are working hard collecting and writing down history of unknown soul artists/ labels, or people making compilations, releasing unissued stuff etc. So, why does it seem like this music is mostly appreciated by whites? Could the answer be as easy as Berry Gordys way of business, the music was aimed at a white crowed and it stuck there?
  2. I often get a question why most of the soul collectors, DJ's, dancers etc. are mostly white people? Is there a good answer to this?
  3. I have the french issue, might be Disk jockey, can't remember, but not pink elephant! I just gave away my Fania issue BUT, it's the french issue you should get cos it's got a different b-side; "Work out" which is also a killer! PS. Mongo is the father of Munguito, that's what I've heard...
  4. Yes you can, it's not that hard, but it takes time and it will cost you more than buying one... I've made a couple using plywood covered with mahogany (don't know if this is the right word in English).
  5. didn't know there was a Trojan release. I was lucky getting this as a birthday present last year after looking for years.....This is my Jamaican issue

  10. He's watching us Don't think I've hear his version of 'Living in the...' But I'm sure I've got a 45 that was released a couple of years ago, 'hey world' or something?
  11. Remember when I bought this on Ebay 5 years ago (also a demo BTW!) I got a mail from Tony Drake himself telling me how great it was that I supported his music
  12. Yes, gold of my life! BTW, I had some contact with E. Cole 4 years ago and he told me he had an unreleased track called 'Am I imposing'. A couple of weeks later I got a tape with the tune and I thought wow. what a tune! I'm not taking credit for it's release, but I told him to put it on a 45!
  13. Is it really? Would love to hear it, hint, hint I know he released a different take with strings and piano...it's ok, reminds me a bit of Dexy's...

  17. That's easy to answer; where is the media to present this kind of music? Nowhere, especially when it comes to Norway. Just ask yourself, where did you get into this music? That's why my "mission" is to spread the lovely world of soul. And as a teacher at a high school I have no idea of how many CD's I've made for my students over the years. Here is a nice story from last week; Every year the third grade puts up a play as a final for their last year at school, and all the parents other students are invited. This year they had a play called "Bikubesong" (don't know how to translate it ) by a Norwegian writer called Frode Grytten. The play includes 6 short stories and one of them is called "Newcastle". This is a story about a young mod living in a small town in Norway. He hates all the other people who have no idea of how to dress right or what's good music. The reason it's called Newcastle is because the only way to get the right music (rare soul) is to order vinyl from across the ocean. At the play we see that he gets a record from the postman, and then he puts it on the turntable and start dancing to Sam Dees "I'm lonely for you baby" So, to the point, the next day I had a lot of students asking me; "what was that tune he played yesterday Tommy"? It was soooooo good, I need it!
  18. GREAT record that should be cheap and easy to get! 'I'm a good guy' has been one of my favourite spins for the last two years.
  19. BTW, are all copies white? Mine is, but I got other stuff on the label that are blue...
  20. It was him who played it to me so that I could get a copy before everybody else
  21. You should also hear Joe Bataans version
  22. Great feature Dave! It really impresses me when people do this kind of work. It's so important for the future to get the history of labels artists etc.
  23. Good post Baz, looking forward to hear stuff from this label, I've just read a great article about it in "There's that beat"
  24. How much do you wanna pay
