After our action packed 2 room NYE event, which was a great success, The Harrogate Soul Lounge returns for 2024 with 3 confirmed dates for Friday 26 January, Friday 23 February and (Good) Friday 29 March. During the course of the year we will announce more dates and include some theme nights. However, for the first 3 events we will revert to our original eclectic format of Variety - anything goes providing if its on the soul spectrum - northern, funk, R&B, club and soul hits, modern, jazz funk and a bit of disco for good measure. Get yer dancin’ shoes on for a night of proper 60’s soul and RnB music played on the original vinyl releases. The Harrogate Cheltenham Club was the town’s first soul/ RnB venue between 1967 and 1969. The music played there was similar to the famous Twisted Wheel Club in Manchester, and the regular Friday, Saturday and Sunday night dances attracted dancers and music fans from all over Yorkshire and beyond. This is the fifth annual Cheltenham reunion event held at Ripley Town Hall, the iconic home of Ripley Live (formerly Ripley Blues). The venue has hosted a number of live RnB acts in previous years, including Steve Cropper, of Booker T & MG’s fame, Georgie Fame, and Snake Davis. The venue has an excellent polished wooden floor ideal for all those soul dance moves. All the tunes will be played on the original vinyl releases by former Cheltenham Club DJ Michael Lowcock and Ian Smith, DJ at Harrogate Northern Soul Club, and will be those that dancers heard at the original venue. Book your place in advance on the Ripley live site at £8 (including booking fee). http://ripleylive.com Advance booking is recommended as places will be limited for dancer comfort. Any unsold places will be available on the night at £10. All proceeds, after the concessionary hire of the hall, go to the Harrogate branch of Parkinsons UK.
