    So there i was reading John Lias vol 2 Spinning Around -and John Abbey pops up as one of the producers on a Tami Lynn -'Love Is here and now you're gone'(LP). Others in the producer line-up were Jerry Wexler, Wardell Q, Brad Shapiro,and Bert Berns. and i quote ( from the book) "John Abbey is in exalted producer company on Lynn's one proper album, whch came about as a result of her surprise Northern Soul driven UK hit 'I'm gonna run away from you'".

    I asked Pete Roberts a few years back ( i think...it was a few years back anyway) if The Equals- 'Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys' was played? I had vivid memories of the song-and the throng- but not the venue. If it was played, It would have been at the 'knockings of the club's final throw of the dice' late 70? “OK, I’m loosened up now, children" - was it just a faded memory of a different venue?

    Northern Soul Connections #15 - Ronnie & Robyn For those that need a read at bank holiday...or are waiting for Cleethorpes. Northern Connections #15 There is only ever one Single-Truth, and then versions, accounts and even faded memories. And unless you are "the subject or directly related to the subject in time" there is no way to be 100% sure about that single-truth. So although I believe I have the compelling evidence for my views... On Ronnie & Robyn, Sidro, D'Orleons, and the rest, there are many sources of testimony, both verbatim & ancidotal. This is my version and it is anchored to primary printed documentary references. No other contributions, first-hand or otherwise from the past are disputed here or made to be less valuable. Instead i leave it to you to take what you wish. In a 1960's music business where almost everyone hos o 'nom de guerre' what follows may merely be a chance occurrence which is only remarkable for being apparently connected. Any corrections, or further enlightenment is encouraged and appreciated. She was a Michigan State ballroom Champion. He was a 1963-64 State champion drummer and singer with Bobby Dayton and the Daytonos. They were from Farmington, West Bloomfield.     ah..... the question stuff - 'you into it then': i have quite a bit of stuff hanging on my stairs hallway walls in view of visitors (see my post in Clubs section if remotely interested), and it's always the Gas Man, Carpet Fitter, Gutter Man etc, delivery man ( god bless them all) who ask that question. They then proceed to tell me about their mate, or there Punk experience. But it does make for for a jolly 30 minutes-with me then thinking they just don't get it.

    i think the tie thing was to put (some) people off. a bit like No Trainers ( was that the 90's). Didn't Fred (was it Fred) the badges-pins man lend people ties?

    Memory is hazy -but i do know this was before ’75. We went (i know not when) from parallels and 22” centre vents, 3” pocket flaps, 5 button sleeves, to blazers with patch pockets and wire emrodered County or footbal badges. I remember queing up outside Hurley’s Golf shop to get my Slazenger cardy ( i could see the opposite side of the road, corner of Whitworth St from here: the Wheel). For some reason we never wore FP’s. (for conext only, it's not a "back in the day" moan - most of us were used to standing on a duck-board 5 days a week and skilled guys got £26 a week). Money was tight. Then it got more casual. Not only were records imported, clothes too. There was a guy we knew who was a manager at Johnsons the Cleaners- very smart, and had a car. Trouser bottom widths got larger but not branded (i certainly didn’t know what Oxford Bags or Spencers were). Shirts- notched collar, short sleeves (not Hawaiian or bowling) Mr California, Penney’s. Bizarrely, i see these worn by the lead actor on the TV programme Two and a Half Men. I still have some of the shirts-and still wear them to NS nights, because they did what they did then...allowed me more freedom to dance ( is that just too sad?). We never got to the more flamboyant styles - we'd gone.

    Although recorded in 1966, i thought this only turned up in the tape vaults of Motown in 1980. I've obviously been a sleep.
