Dolly and The (Her) Fashions were sisters Doretha and Loretha Moody who had been gospel singers in their fathers church before backing Zeke Strong as the Queen Tones and then becoming Dolly and The Fashions. Info courtesy of Steve Propes.
I'm not saying you or anyone else is wrong...but i have them as Doretha and Lolietha. And that came from a 1967 delinquent tax report, which you wouldn't have thought got it wrong.

The door is open to everyone. Like you said we didn't go to classes we learnt on the floor, watched what others do and practised at home ready for the following week.
None of us are happy to see what we are so passionate about deteriorate and die, but we aren't happy to see line dancing either and other elements being brought into the scene...I presume it is the comments on this that brought about your questions? Line dancing isn't Northern Soul. The scene was once cool as f&*ck, all about individualism, athleticism, flair and showmanship, trying to out do those around you. Not the formulaic routines we are seeing now. I know we are getting on a bit or the majority are but christ they can still try rather than turn it into something it isn't or shouldn't be. If they want to line dance go to a line dancing venue. Everything that seems to be happening at some venues is exactly what we got into the scene for to escape.
But the scene is welcoming, just go and enjoy yourself, your two left feet will soon turn into one right and one left and you will pick the moves up but even if you don't just enjoy it, I doubt anyone will castigate you if you can't.
We are just old and grumpy
Agree...but i don't think i'd have gone anywhere ( or been attracted to anything) that was being descibed as "cool".

Stephanye (the record label, and the pub co) is something i've never been able to get my head around?
I've seen Stephanye pub co associated with; Gene Redd, Leonard S. Mietus's copyright management company and Fred Fioto.
I do know that Cleveland Horne's daughter was called Stephanye (perhaps a nod to the label name there?), and also know Gene Redd Snr daughter was Pennye ( Penny), so perhaps something there?

Discogs has the Rotations on Mala and Frantic being the same act and from New Jersey. I'm not so sure that the Mala group are or were the Attractions who were West Coast?
Mala group from Discogs: Albert DeMagnes, Leona Harden, Arlene Dixon, & Miriam Carter were the Rotations from New Jersey, USA.
Attractions: Morris Chestnut, (David or Robert) Jones (once of the Soundmasters), Bledsoe & Smith.
Anyone confirm the line ups or add etc
See further up the thread. Northern connections # 20
someone took the names from my article and put them on discogs back in 2019

I never knew, until very recently, that the Duprells were signed to back Sam Cooke just before he was killed.
That makes sense. Wasn't it Bumps that leveraged Sam away from the Soul Stirrers

I never said there was any causation - what I’ve pointed out is how ‘soulin’ can be a good fit for neurodiverse people.
Fair enough

Surely you can “shoehorn” any ‘extreme/ unusual/ ADHD/spectral type behaviour’ into anything…Beit Northern Soul, Football Fandom, Train spotting, stamp collecting, Eurovision, and so on. None of which is cause… just effect.

There was definately "a Marke Jackson" gigging (short lived) in New Jersey in 1968, with Donna Lee (Clown Town on Columbia) & Others.

nice one.
i also think Jukebox George connected a lot of that up

One of my first introductions to the future world of Northern Soul.
Beam me back to the Compass Club in Torquay in July 1969 where this B Side was incredibly popular.
Well done Martha Reeves but lets not forget the wonderful Vandellas.
ah yes David, beam me back to Belle Vue, thru Elizabethan to Carlisle room ( i think). Forget me not

you may well have already figured this out...but Henry Hines had a few geograhic connections with Greenville.
(Henvick Lynn's) Lynn Productions.
Tommy Bee's Tomahawk label branch address was also Greenville ( Henry was sales & marketing).

Now they are running Workshops! Oh please.
Perhaps there needs to be another definition when advertising nights/ venues.
ONSO= original northern soul only
Frankly I give up

Spot on Chalky, it seems everyday Northern Soul is been exploited and used as a money tree to try to squeeze a few quid out of the di*ks you talk about.
Just come across a so call Northern event with the promotional blurb " free glass of fizz on entry and 2 course meal and dj till 12.30". That's as far away from what it was as I can imagine.
yes...the prawn sandwiches remarks by Roy Keane spring to mind.

I just don’t think we should give it any oxygen. The number of non NS people that think they know me ( but don’t really) that keep asking me what I think, if I’m going, the plays, the dancing, Bristol, etc, makes what was somewhat a private matter for me, become even more so.

Any thought who as original artists would you like to see perform with the orchestra that would make you buy tickets.
Unfortunately lots are no longer woth us or to old to perform , so it does narrow it down.
