  8. Thank you for the correction. @George G I hold the people i write about in high esteem- so it's gut-wrenching when i make a mistake like this. Why i put the two Sonny Harris's as one, i'll never know. A silly mistake. I sincerely apologise to anyone connected with either Sonny Harris. I'll amend the error, and ask Mike(admin) to repost the new version. NB. Even though there were two men with "Sonny" in their name, each living & working only 200 miles from each in Ohio, and each recording a 45. I am very persuaded they are two different men.
  9. came across this thread looking for something else, thought you may like to know a bit more... Garry Garnette, ‘have you heard the news’, Capilano Records ‎– CAPS 158, composer Tom Baird. The Untouchables, Garry Garnette’s 1969 own group of musicians (lead & base guitars, drums, organ & piano) may be the backing on ‘have you heard…’, 45cat has it as 1969. In 1969 Garry was 27yrs old. Tom Baird drowned in 1976, he was 32 yrs old. There are a couple of Tom Baird composer sides (including ‘have you heard the news’) that reference Joani(e). He was married to Joani. Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan he (Garry) was a construction worker and one time logging truck driver. He did quite an extensive circuit tour of New Mexico & Texas. Apparently whilst in San Antonio he beat the US 1962 quick draw (think cowboys) champ by 1/100th of a second.

  12. That's the Rock-A-Teens number. The Rock-A-Teens filed a suit against Roulette & McGraw for breach of contract & unpaid royalties -$25K I have the band members full names(not just there go by names) somewhere.
  13. During the late 40’s through to mid 1950’s The Old Dominion Barn Dance ran every Saturday night as a radio show in Richmond’s WRVA theatre. Run by ‘Sunshine Sue’, Mary Higdon Workman (prexy of Southland Shows Inc) & her hubby ‘Big Sugarfoot’ (John Workman). It was very successful and ran coast-to-coast on the CBS network. Soul Bros Inc, Salem Records PM-500, Tear Drops, Sugarloaf Pub Co, vocal Carter Brothers. The ‘Little Carter Brothers’ (1950) one of whom needed to stand on a soap box to reach the microphone, rendered mainly a repertoire of hymns when they appeared on the Saturday night shows. If they are the same ‘Carter Brothers’ then it took a further 15/16 years to cut “Tear Drops”, and I guess they were teenagers/early twenties by then. Salem Others Shirlee Hunter’s first single, “I Can't Do A Thing With My Heart / Loneliness Is Falling All Around” on Salem M516, 1963, coincided with her last appearance on what was then being called The New Dominion Barn Dance, the theatre was due for demolition in October of the same year. She (maybe like the Carter Brothers) had started her career on the show back in 1956. Little Cindy also released on Salem 2515, 1967 & Mart 3510, 1961. Little Cindy (Saul) A.“Happy Birthday Jesus” B: “He's Around (When Everybody Turns You Down)” 1959, also cut a record in 1959 called ‘Shabby’. Across the State June was known as ‘Shabby’ month. Shabby was donated free by Columbia and George Donald McGraw’s pubbery (Sugarloaf Pub Co to name just one) on behalf of the Virginia Society for Crippled Children & Adults who sold each copy for $1.
  14. Kenni woods/Alice Presley/Sandi sheldon/Kendra spotswood: then fold in pacettes etc
  15. I'd never realized until today that Florence Greenberg had been naming her labels after 'Princess' stuff. e.g Wand, Scepter and Tiara.
  16. Was Zan ( always thought it was short forcAlexander...but not sure) on the door at TW? Or have I mingled my memory up.
  17. I was reflecting on the sad news of Nobby Stiles passing today with a few mates, and dug out a few photo's of my time playing (obviously low level). I was a full back. think this was 1980. (other thread) RIP Nobby.
  18. An update to the article since it was first written. UPDATE: a second copy came up for sale on a Carolina Soul auction & a third copy is now listed on Discogs. They revealed additional label information much more clearly. These are: b-side label writer credits for “Cometi Un Error” as Johnny L Garza. A-side label credits as El Negro Santo (Teddy Bray), and a-side label credit (D.A.R) underneath the title ‘Baby Can I Change My Mind’.
  19. very fitting Sam & Dave ref title. good luck with the book Pete
  20. If that's all that was played you have 'good ears' @The Yank
  21. I’m not disputing this. I’m disputing United Record Distributors is the same ( company) as United Distributors in the post you put up previously. Manchester United FC is not the same entity as FC United of Manchester...but if you were looking through an archive 60 yrs from now you might mistakenly think they were the same.
  22. Yes- i was just heading over to your original post to pose the same. United Record Distributors (or variants) isn't i don't believe the same as United Distributors that @The Yank posted.
  23. I think this is correct Robb. I can't find a 'partnership' with Billy. Jump was at 5257 La Salle St really early 50's thru to 1967 with a variety of companies including La Salle Recording Co, R & B Attractions & Orchestra Services (booking agent). Those same companies plus Heno moved to 8959 Oglesby Ave. Both addresses and companies are tied in with Jump and Oscar Jackson-only.
  24. Merrill Pub is in fact Merrill Finch, the father of John Finch and the husband of Mrs Johnnie Finch. Satch records was at their family home in West Chesterfield @ 9147 S. Michigan Ave. The Specials were 'The Specials of Chicago'.
  25. Cheers. In that case maybe Willie Simmons and Cornelius Charles were also.
