  1. maybe not for some...but i've always enjoyed both sides.
  2. cheap as chips...
    Top night...nice to be back.
  3. It might be the (New) All Star? search here on Soul Source
  4. Dave only really differentiated Northern Soul ('The Soul of The North' B & S column) i.e. people's different taste for Soul in the North of England from Soul due to geography. I don't believe it was anything to do with the then scene, established or not. He rarely used (if ever as far as i know) the term Northern Soul to describe anything other than a 45 that would appeal to Soul fans in the North.

  6. Nooney up-top, plus L-R Bobby Blood, Bill McCubbin, Tom Funk, & Kent Dunbar ( do ya think they were being tongue-in-cheek with their names?)
  7. ah...get it. i guess these transfers are simple clicks via Internet banking then?( i don't do internet banking)
  8. Apart from the obvious general answers...why do some sellers (UK to UK) ask for B/transfer on records under £300. It’s a genuine question, not a moan.
  9. @Louise arrived today Dave ( fri 24th), -perfect ta
  10. @Ady Croasdell-The Record(New Jersey) June 1975. BTW -Charles Cascales aka Charles Cabot 'oversealous agent/mgr' had done it on at least 2 occasions
  11. Vessie Simmons did appear as Vessie Simmons & The Fabulous Shirelles. The case (fraud) went to court, Vessie was acquitted but her manager Charles Cascales was convicted of mail fraud. sending out brochures and photo's depicting just The Shirelles.
  12. Some behaviours are taught. Others are only attained through historical tribal knowledge. Most “nob heads” at NS events don’t have that tribal knowledge so don’t know how to behave. You can extend this theory to many situations. E.g if you’ve ever worked In a mid- large scale organisation “the newbies” (even those that might have been there a decade) may still not exhibit “the correct behaviours”- lack of tribal knowledge. Incidentally, once you have it, you can leave and return for extended periods and still know how to ‘behave’.
  13. I'll just have to continue to make do with the 2016 CD The UPLOOK Records Story.
  14. I rarely, if ever comment on prices ( i don't know enough about them), but suffice to say i wish i could afford what will be the eventual winning bid (+£1000). I've had a interest in the UpLook records for many a year, and a story on Gene Lawson which at some point i'll post.
  15. Couldn't agree more Ed. These are fab Graham. Hearing Melvin's voice (on interview) sent shivers down my spine.
  16. I think Ted Daniels had (had) an ADMIRations group, so changed it to ADMERations
  17. You’ll love it . Seek me out. I’m the quite one
  18. looking forward to coming back...but apprehensive, i think i've forgotten how to dance .
  19. Willie is a fav of mine...so i hope this SJ release does well. Forgive me...i won't kidnap the post entirely but thought readers may find this interesting. Chicago Aug/Sept 1966. The Del-Vettes/Del-Vetts were with 11 musicians (Nate Thomas on piano) at 445 N. Lake Shore recording studio (which at that time was RCA Victor) adding background vocals on some Willie Williams 5 hours and 4 songs recording session, two sides of which became ABC 45-10598 intended a-side “Just Because/It Doesn't Pay”. I don’t think ABC 45-10860 “Have You Ever Been Played For A Fool?/With All Of My Soul” was the other 2 sides since this was recorded at an earlier session. Instead, could it be ABC 11031 (1967/8) I’m Through With You/ Strung Out. Or maybe it was the sides put out on RCA Victor 47-9736 “Just To Be Loved By You/Name It” released at a later date (1969). Producer/arranger Johnny Pate quite often leased sides to other major labels. The Del-Vettes harmonies can most clearly be heard on “It Doesn’t Pay” starting at about 1 minute in and then through to the end on all the ‘It Doesn’t Pay’ lyrics. Willie Williams 1968.
  20. Very sad news.... I have always been of the same mind as Barry Martin's remarks on the vocal similarities of her voice with that of Lorraine Randolph -see sirshambling-http://www.sirshambling.com/artists_2012/R/lorraine_rudolph/index.php The other reasons of my own is i have seen her 'named' both ways on several occasions as far back as 1967. Particularly as featured with The Bob Craig Trio. Lorraine Rudolph grew up in the Russell neighbourhood of Louisville, Ky, and having spent 25 years in Detroit, in her later years she lived in Temple Springs, Md. Two PICTURES- both performing with the Bob Criag Trio at The Hurricane Lounge in 1967. RUDOLPH 1st pic Dec 1967/RANDOLPH 2nd pic Aug 1967. Either way....i love both, if it is indeed two different ladies.
  21. Reissue & Mal....given the title of the thread i don't think either of these three posts show much NS 'brotherly'.
  22. They are not the same person (Just in case you still think they maybe). Gerald was about 6 years older than Sam. He was an accounting Major (school) & attorney. Sam was more into journalism. That's why you see Gerald's name on 'official documents'. It's an interesting story and one i'll write up one day.
  23. @Roburt I've returned to this fine article once again to ask... The Petities- where did you run across their names? I know of Barbara, but i'm at a loss for the Ewing sisters. I have been 'working' on some stuff which encompasses Teek so ( if you are willing to share) any pointers on Pat & Dorothy would be gratefully received. best ken
