  3. That's an interesting shout you Source folks have put forward. Jimmy Ross joined Jimmy Beaumont & The Skyliners in 1975. (the orig line-up (Mabray, Iris, etc)Jaggerz broke up New Years eve 1975)
  4. don't get exited...after searching for years i don't have anything on The Stoppers themselves. But i still have notes on some of the key players. On the Stoppers sides A-side. Ricky Lisi (co-writer) is i believe Yolanda's brother.(see Apex 13435, 13397, etc) B-side Joe Sauter(co-writer) Sauter also formed Rooster Records & pub co with Eric Sayho & Joseph Elia. Eric Sayho (see Apex 77025, 1966) Joe Sauter was under contract as a writer to Warner Bros for 3 years and did off-broadway musicals. Joseph Elia operated summer theatres in Florida, California & Pa. the rest...Wemar, etc is easily got from BB/CB or RW.

I'm an early bird when it comes to getting there and leaving. So it was great to catch Chris at the decks (he was earlier than usual in the line-up) who always surprises me with something. Top night.
  9. i have re-issues ( mostly with the intention of buying the orig' but never bothered with some). e.g. i have Midnight Affair , Stax ‎– FANSG 6092-7 -2004 Re-Issue-Germany. No idea waht all the versions now cost, and don't know if all the version are 'the same'.
  10. i don't think Yann does styrene repairs...but hope i'm wrong
  11. Well, i'm not even 1/4 way through it...but i think it's worth every penny. Just to see Martin Buchan (photo) in one of the collages was worth it to bring back memories . In my view, it does give a good & fair impression of the scene/it's music/ and the general happening of 1975.
  12. always a top night...never been to a 'bad one'
  13. It is a beautifully illustrated and content rich book chronicaling 1975 that makes you go ...oh yeah.

  15. i, for one, am happy with how label owners offer up new releases. I get re-worked, re-mastered, new material, never before released, etc, and for a small price, so i'm happy to pay upfront & wait for delivery. Yes, sometimes i miss out due to small pre-ordering quantity runs but other times i don't - that's just life.
  16. Ella Woods & Miss Lady by Kenb Ella Woods was born in Lexington, Mississippi and moved with her family to L.A when she was 5 years old. She studied opera/classical at U.S.C and majored in English Literature at Redlands. In 1970 she spent 18 months with The (Buck Ram} Platters. It's said she completed a love song for "Slaughter", a 1972 blaxploitation low-budget film starring Jim Brown. However no soundtrack LP was ever issued. (The theme song for Slaughter was written and performed by Billy Preston which went on to feature in Quentin Tarantino's lnglourious Basterds 2009 film}.

  20. The latest (#27 no less) in the long running series of 'Northern Soul Connections' from @Kenb Teens With Talent Guests on the late Bob Abrahamian's Sitting In The Park radio shows would occasionally mention Teens With Talent (TWT). The show of that name was first presented Sunday 17th Feb 1963 at the Studebaker Theater, in the Fine Art Building, sponsored by Sears Roebuck Y.M.C.A. The main principles behind that first TWT were Al Johnson & Johnny Nixon. Al Johnson was an Illinois Bell Telephone company employee long associated with youth work in Lawndale and other areas of Chicago's West & South sides Started in 1965 with $500, Act IV Productions grew out of TWT to be self-supporting/profit making for the 40-60 youngsters making up the TWT 'troupe'. Al Johnson, Ernie Jenkins and James (Jimmy} Hudson (a volunteer worker at the A.B.C. youth center} all took roles. Act IV made records, staged productions, wrote & produced plays and published sheet music. Act IV Productions had offices above ....
