    Northern Soul Connections #28 The Strange case of the Imaginations - Fraternity Records It's time to visit another Northern Soul Connection - Ken drops in on a strange neighbourhood... In the second half of 1967 a member of a young Dayton group went to see Tom Campbell to 'pitch' their plans, aspirations and dreams. Tom Campbell was a radio personality at WONE and became a columnist at the Dayton Daily News. From the mid 60's to early 70's Tom ran 'Campbell's Corner' and 'Off-the-Cuff' news features giving prominence to local bands, and tit-bits on National bands, a 1 concerts, and general music gossip. He gave the young band member a steer on who to see and what to do. By mid-November that same year, that band member, David Peoples had telephoned the Dayton News to tell them that the band had secured a first record deal with Harry Carlson's Fraternity records for Strange Neighborhood Now my thoughts immediately turn to David Peoples on Saru (1971). But does he sound like the vocal on Strange Neighborhood? (if he was indeed the lead vocal on Strange Neigborhood) and ...     TAD was owned Gene Cash (he owned C.R.A also) however...Gerald Dickerson says TAD was owned Don Zimmerman. So inconclusive.

    I don't think so Graham. I know who the 'Sir John's' were, and they certainly have nothing to do with Funky 16 corners (Highlighters band, James Bell, et al), but go-ahead if you can make a connection with Leon, i'd like to see it.

    chesk out Joey from Oldham ( just search) on here. As well as the other places, he was a regular (maybe semi-regular) i think. we spoke about it in some threads here at Soul Source.

    yes that's him...although he's unlikely to be on the Josey 45. He was a native of Rochester, New York before moving to Florida in the late 80's. and the 45 preceeded his involvement in the band i think.( assuming the Josey 45 is 60's/70's)

    Sir John Jeffrey Quintet (Jazz guys). mostly played Naples and Marco Island /South West Florida since at least 1973.

    The JM auction of Detroit Soul made me go back over some Connecticut stuff i have, and i 'discoged' Aristocrats. I'm reasonable confident Aristocrats -'Let's Get Together Now' are not the Aristocrats as those described on Discogs. I know of an Aristocrats from Wallingford, Connecticut managed by Ed Read but doubt very much they are the 'LGTN' Aristocrats. ( happy to be proved wrong though). So any ideas on who they are?

    Thanks Benji- that's something new for me. All-Music (credit to them)... A Hundred Pounds of Clay: The Best of Gene McDaniels [Capitol] Album Information released 1992, which says recorded date March 1st 1962 to Sept 10th 1965. So... as you say that seems to make it first to master/tape. There's also a EMI's 1991 Ledgendary Master series which is the same in track selections.

    Thank you. Fraternity release was Nov 1967. There was additional copyrights on Bob Perper's Strange Neighborhood in 1984 (Yvette Ball - maybe a Pseudonym). Which i think also appears on In The Naked City, Various Artists, Kent CDKEND 299. I'll take this into the article in some way.

    I’m still in draft on one of my Northern Connections articles about the Imaginations. Their identity (picture), etc. It’s a curious tale...so I’m looking for any questions or contributions from the Soul Source members to make sure I cover it off as best I can. obviously, i’ve Seen general stuff on Discogs, and such, so (politely) no need to repeat that.
