  1. Hi Mal, enlighten me please. I'm a bit lost on this bit.
  2. That's true. It's when it's lilke this you have to worry... BB-1985-03-02
  3. get your general point, and it's a good one...but what about those that came out of pressing plants in the 60's/70's booted?...'Get a job', 'Maybe', Sam Cooke on Keen, etc. Not everything gets "trapped".
  4. is there an OU course available for this?
  5. Romeo Leroy Taylor was maybe ...'a bit of a boy' . His business intersts included Hollywood Talent Productions (with Carmelina) and Leroy's Bail Bonds to name two. Hope it helps with your digging.
  6. great article. see 45cat entry for update-submissions.
  7. Northern Soul Connections #28 The Strange case of the Imaginations - Fraternity Records It's time to visit another Northern Soul Connection - Ken drops in on a strange neighbourhood... In the second half of 1967 a member of a young Dayton group went to see Tom Campbell to 'pitch' their plans, aspirations and dreams. Tom Campbell was a radio personality at WONE and became a columnist at the Dayton Daily News. From the mid 60's to early 70's Tom ran 'Campbell's Corner' and 'Off-the-Cuff' news features giving prominence to local bands, and tit-bits on National bands, a 1 concerts, and general music gossip. He gave the young band member a steer on who to see and what to do. By mid-November that same year, that band member, David Peoples had telephoned the Dayton News to tell them that the band had secured a first record deal with Harry Carlson's Fraternity records for Strange Neighborhood Now my thoughts immediately turn to David Peoples on Saru (1971). But does he sound like the vocal on Strange Neighborhood? (if he was indeed the lead vocal on Strange Neigborhood) and ... 9. I can't really take the credit on this one...it came from one of Boba's sitting in the park radio shows. Probably the Notations.
  10. TAD was owned Gene Cash (he owned C.R.A also) however...Gerald Dickerson says TAD was owned Don Zimmerman. So inconclusive.
  11. I don't think so Graham. I know who the 'Sir John's' were, and they certainly have nothing to do with Funky 16 corners (Highlighters band, James Bell, et al), but go-ahead if you can make a connection with Leon, i'd like to see it.
  12. chesk out Joey from Oldham ( just search) on here. As well as the other places, he was a regular (maybe semi-regular) i think. we spoke about it in some threads here at Soul Source.
  13. yes that's him...although he's unlikely to be on the Josey 45. He was a native of Rochester, New York before moving to Florida in the late 80's. and the 45 preceeded his involvement in the band i think.( assuming the Josey 45 is 60's/70's)
  14. Bob Stone drums, Vince Evans bass, Sal Sparrazza horns, Stu on piano, and John P.S. happy new year back at ya...been away.
  15. Sir John Jeffrey Quintet (Jazz guys). mostly played Naples and Marco Island /South West Florida since at least 1973.
  16. If you've not already read it, this might interest you.. http://opalnations.com/files/Miles_Grayson_Blues_Rhythm_241_Aug.2009.pdf
  17. If it was mine, I’d leave it “as is”, and either write a note to slip into the sleeve or write on the sleeve.
  18. there's much more to the colourful story of this band (and the folks involved in the band and the record label) that's interesting. The sides speak for themselves and another nice release Alan
  19. The JM auction of Detroit Soul made me go back over some Connecticut stuff i have, and i 'discoged' Aristocrats. I'm reasonable confident Aristocrats -'Let's Get Together Now' are not the Aristocrats as those described on Discogs. I know of an Aristocrats from Wallingford, Connecticut managed by Ed Read but doubt very much they are the 'LGTN' Aristocrats. ( happy to be proved wrong though). So any ideas on who they are?
  20. you may be (politely) looking down the wrong end of the telescope. do you have 15% of JM's auction tracks he lists every week/two weeks? Just a thought
  21. nothing against you or your bid (your money, your choice) But i can only dream of such things.
  22. you can buy me a lemonade at Ukranian
  23. Thanks Benji- that's something new for me. All-Music (credit to them)... A Hundred Pounds of Clay: The Best of Gene McDaniels [Capitol] Album Information released 1992, which says recorded date March 1st 1962 to Sept 10th 1965. So... as you say that seems to make it first to master/tape. There's also a EMI's 1991 Ledgendary Master series which is the same in track selections.
  24. Hi Benji, which do you mean? Strange Neighborhood or New Neighborhood.
