  1. Why is that?...quite simply i do not want to be at a venue where motor scooters are on the dance floor. I'm 69. When i can't dance anymore i'll stop. Nothing at all to do with inclusivity.
  2. if i was in a venue and a mobility scooter 'rider' was on the dance floor, i'd know i had made a bad decision about the venue, and leave. OR i'd gone to sleep and woken up in Benidorm I am starting to think this is a wind-up, and i'm the only one not getting the joke!
  3. In the venue, yes. on the dance floor no.
  4. there is a Canadian 45 on 45cat.com https://www.45cat.com/record/wrc32267, but no sound file.
  5. well...we've got a tough run in now, but 3 points against The Tigers (Hyde Utd) tommorow will help us stay up! Come on Celts.
  6. The latest Northern Connections episode #32 from Kenb Tap to view this Soul Source News/Article in full
  7. The latest Northern Connections episode #32 from Kenb Northern Soul Connections #32 i.e. that is Disciples of Soul Disciples of Soul-Phantom The Disciples of Soul vocalists on 'Together' & 'That's The Way Love Goes' were Bill Ferrell, Steve McKeown, and Bud Rand. They were under the management of Jeff Reed (Rand & McKeown names you can find on the Phantom label & credits) and the sides were recorded in the summer of 1968 and released in Feb 1969. Whenever I've listened to RI 2755 B-side 'Together' it has always sounded so close to the lead vocals of The Intruders release. That might be because both Rand & McKeown were in The Intruders, before the band grew larger (nine members i think) and changed its name to The Disciples of Soul. 10. every time i read one of Andy's accounts of Shrine i think how brilliant he was to pursue the label. well done Ace, and all involved.
  11. @Kev Cane It's just me then. you are right though superb 45. Love to know the names to put it beyond doubt.
  12. Have to disagree Kev. I do hear males on 'You Gonna Pay'.
  13. although you see 690 Hunter St address on The Naturals Quadran label, Quadran actually started at ( with The Contacts). 101 Ollie St, Atlanta G.A., the Westside Branch of the YMCA. It was in the basement.
  14. Why Little Girl (Can't You Love Me)...it's a female lead and females on back-up? right?
  15. Now the JM Auction is over, maybe the new owner might find this interesting (dusted off notes turned into a one pager). Teddy Miller, LIFE.docx
  16. That too has a hint of sarcasm. So it shows how difficult it is to define…especially when it’s just written without any F2F expression.
  17. very interesting Russ, thanks. & @Woodbutcher Remembering the (your post) article was from 1952, i just thought i'd revisit and add... RPL moved from 1558 Pierce (a third floor affair, gone by at least 1972) to 100 State St, NJ (100 State St was a full building block), it had studio's for clients to cut small run acetates, and was still churning out tapes, in 1972. So the likelyhood is that the acetate was done at RPL. Of course a master tape could have come (been sent) from anywhere.
  18. Evening Sentinel: 14th March 1973 -The City Licensing hearings (continued on 15th March), effectively ending the Torch. Evening Sentinel: April 4th 1973 -Opportunity to appeal ran out. For Sale or To-Let notice goes up. The end of one beginning, but six months later it heralded the dawn of a new beginning...what was to become the most famous venue, Wigan Casino.
  19. Airtown Record Enterprises ( Airtown records, Airtown Custom Records, & a small tape recording studio ), 723 North Tenth St, Richmond, Indiana. Owned and managed by Tommy Wills who lived on Beechwood Trailer Court. He was born in Middletown, Ohio. He travelled the East Coast and Canada and moved from Decatur, Ill (where he was up to 1966) to Richmond in 1969. Air Town's birth was 1st May 1968. He would take his tapes to Rusty's Jewel Recording Studio (Ohio). Not quite sure why the label logo switched from Airtown to Juke. I think the building is gone, but it was on this corner T-Junction (pic).
  20. Hi Russ, nothing as concrete as that. Just a question/option i threw in...because on hearing it, it took me straight to 'dances of the time' coming out of Indianapolis, like the Tighten-Up, the Popcorn ( "Tighten up your Popcorn" was around at the time, Big Daddy Graham trio). And the dance comps' in the area like 'Loose Booty' etc. And of course the Ebony's Band artist name on the disc in question.
  21. So...is (was) this not the Ebony Rhythm Band aka Ebony Rhythm Funk Band from Indianapolis then? There were definately lost recordings. They were the house band at Lamp.
  22. I think on this occasion Russ, better to over-report than not at all. If it were one taken it would still feel like shit.
  23. Not got mine. Promo. O/N 12033 @Brewerytownbeats
  24. i guess anyone can list a record on ebay, discogs etc, and not even own it? Put a ridiculous price on it that wouldn't attract a buyer's interest, so would never have to produce it for sale. To my knowledge, there is no authentication of ownership. Maybe it's a 15 minute of fame thing.
yes...it's come a long way since my first visit when it was at The Masonic in Dukinfield. Brian and the 2 x Chris's ( although only one Chris currently) have done a wonderful job.
