I'm such a jerk sometimes, sorry Russ ...it's 2712 W.Pico( not 2172)
If you do find a pic Russ...
George R. Brown of Titan Records (1951 Holmby Ave, L.A.) -Titan(2) on Discogs also owned Dolly Bee Music & Roslyn Music. He also owned Aldo Distributors Inc & Service Records, A & G Pub and B&S pub with Al Stewart. These businesses were conducted from 2712 W. Pico.
You can find 2712 W. Pico Bernard Dupree (Cletus Marland) on Granger Records.

Within Sales, I was looking at a recently posted label scan of Cookie Jackson's 'Do you you still love me" on Progress. I have a copy, but had never before noticed the address on the label, which is a surprise as it stands out. It's:
2847 1/2 W. Pico, Los Angeles 6, Calif.
A quick search on Google Maps shows the address to be West Pico Boulevard. Here's a screen grab dated by Google as being from November 2021 - just a year ago. The 2847 1/5 is the gated doorway smack bang in the middle, which, based on the numbers on the door, lead to two offices or apartments. Following the numbering systam, it's presumed 2847.5 is on the left - unless the two spaces run horizontally to the view, ie, one at the front and one at the back.
From the info given on the Cookie Jackson label, it's unclear whether the address is where Progress Records was based or Target Enterprise. Possibly it was both. Either way, it's hardly a glamorous location, although who knows how it looked nigh on 60 years ago. And looking at the image now, I fancy I can kind of imagine Cookie Jackson belting out tunes from the upstairs window.
Anyway, that got me wondering if anyone's spent any time looking up independent record label addresses online. Obviously, some of you have been fortunate to go looking for old locations in person in years past, but I was kind of thinking more about in the modern age and excluding the obvious labels such as Motown, Stax, Chess, etc. Any addresses still in existence that was once home to an obscure/indy/local record label?
Target Dist Co was at 3032 W.Pico-sherman & ann coleman + Zeke
actually, to be factually correct the partnership was dissolved(mutually) in 1965 and Zeke took it all on.

such a massive contrast between the FIFA World Cup (set-up in Qatar) and The Rugby League World Cup(s) played here in England. Maybe it's just my working-class heritage rearing it's ugly head again.
I guess FIFA will find a way to 'give it The World Cup host nation to' North Korea soon.
As for the footie...there's always something to get me excited.

Hi Chalky, nice post.
The Photo for the group. It's the same as on discogs BUT now has names on it.
Do you know where those names came from? Did Chuck 'assign' them to the Photo during the interview? or did they come from somewhere else.?

This thread was spawned off the "Miss Motown" thread, because this is more about George Clinton relate New York Jobete Music Office-generated productions, and their issuance on non-Motown labels than about Raynoma Gordy and her work for that office. I am primarily interested in Marton and its apparent sister label, Kay=O Records, because every song on their only 3 records I've seen, have been published by Jobete Music Co. I have done some research, and found out that the owner of New York's Marton Records was named Martin (I have forgotten his first name) but had it at one time. Also, he was the owner of Apex Music Publishing Co. and Martin Music , and Apex productions. On both the Marton records, and on the Kay=O record, Jobete Music shared publishing rights with Martin's Apex Music, and on the Kay=O record, Jobete shared with both Apex and Martin Music. So, it is very clear that both labels were at least Co-owned, if not solely owned by Martin.
It's also clear that The Tamala Lewis record's sides were produced by George Clinton and his Parlor Productions (through Jobete Music). The Roy Handy on Marton was also produced by Clinton, and his Parla Productions through Jobete Music's office. The Bobby Moore record lists D.W. productions, who produced Bobby's D.W. Records as lead singer of The Fourmost/s. This was New York Bobby Moore (former Little Bobby Moore ("Do The Ginger Snap" on King Records), as well as "Pinky" on Seg-Way Records, and "It Was a Lie" with The Fourmost on D.W./Red Bird, rather than Atlanta's Bobby Moore (who sang with The Rhythm Aces).
That is all I know about these 2 labels, and I'd like to know more about them including Martin's first name, his place in the business, and whether or not he was just a financier, or had more to do with the day-to-day operations, what recording studio, arranger, and musicians they used, and if they had any connection to D.W. Records (other than recording Bobby Moore), and whether or not a Jobete Music producer produced the recording used for Jobete's proof of ownership recording and Martin just used that, or D.W.'s Production crew recorded the final mix version.
Can anyone here add more information?
I guess you might tell me you already know this, but hope this helps....some stuff when i was 'tracking Relic'
Joe Martin owned Relic Rack music shop aka Relic Records ( sometimes 116) 136 Main St, Hackensack, N.J. You may also see this as Relic Rack/Relic Distie. The record shop was owned/run by various people...i think 1968 -2004 it was George Lavatelli, but others were involved in the early 60's/70's e.g. Chuck Fitzgerald, mgr.
BTW- you can find Apex-Martin ads on Billboard,351 Washington St, Newark, NJ.

that's very sad.
R.I.P Joe Tarsia.
I was only talking about him yesterday...strangely enough about the Jacksons

OK the question is " Why did big name DJ's at the time sell original label records at the same price as the boots were going for once the record got booted? Or even throw a record into the crowed once it got booted?" If the scene was all about owning the original record rather than having the tune why would DJs do that? Russ did it himself on more than one occasion!
ignoring the debate for now...what i don't get is, if your profile is correct you would have been 4 yrs old in 1973?
So is it the case that (if you are female) it's a lady's prergogative not to tell her age - or is your profile a bootleg/carver?
So is your experience 1st hand or 'passed down'
either way, i'm sort with Chalky on this one.

The guy is called Flery Robertson and he states he was asked to play piano for the S-W team.
He says Staunton went to LA...and he worked with Walker. So the RCA Walker does indeed appear to be Motown's S-W.
There is a (https://www.discogs.com/artist/3810236-Fiery-Bursey) also written as Flery Bursey- AND- the other writer on stick with me is Walter Fields (https://www.discogs.com/artist/1016441-Walter-Fields).
Both have Motown connections.

I've always been interested in this...for many a year.
I can add (what might turn out to be more confusion) to this;
Remembering that some of the players in this include Steve Royal, Jet label, Survival Label.
There was a newspaper 'snippet' from March 1978 that says "Love is all you need" Jet UP 36382 is a rather breathy message from Rita Wright on her debut single this week". Rita who is 21, (note: this would mean she was born in 1957) has worked in several London shows inc Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, and a starring role in The Black Mikado.
There is an accompanying Photo to the 'snippet' that has a striking resemblance (braided hair, etc) to Syreeta. According to most sources Syreeta was born in 1946.
Interstingly though, the cast of The Black Mikado included Patti Boulaye (under the name Patricia Ebigwei) as Yum-Yum. She also appeared in Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar. And made an appearance on New Faces, 1978. Patricia Ebigwei is the artist on Survival SUR -4 'The Moon & I' producer Steve Royal. Wiki has her down as born in 1954. And again, a striking resemblance to the accompanying Photo in the 'snippet'. Maybe she could also be the vocal on Intimate Strangers on Alaska 105, BUT it could be any female connected to John Shroeder's Alaska label ( e.g Marie Toland aka Tina Tott...another New Faces contestant, Juy 1975).
Then we have Esther Byrd (aka Anastasia Rodriguez). As Esther Byrd she appeared with Ray Charles & His Orch + Raelettes at The Odeon, Birmingham on Oct 11th 1978. As Esther Byrd she appeared in Shylock as the character Portia in 1981 at Haymarket Theatre, Leicester and as Anastasia Rodriguez appeared in Shylock as the character Portia in1982 at Library Theatre, Manchester, You can find recordings of 4 songs from the Shylock productions at Zforzando (label) ZF001 (Discogs).
Interestingly again...Her West End credits include playing Katisha in The Black Mikado at the Cambridge Theatre and Jesus Christ Superstar in London & Germany.
On Steve Royal - best left to his words 'I have been part of many companies with other directors and i accept my share of the responsibility over failures'. - e.g. Wham & Adam Ant fan clubs, records not released, etc.
So...is the Rita Wright in the newspaper 'snippet' Pat Boulaye aka Patricia Ebigwei?
And how come we have Rita Wright, Pattie Boulaye and Esther Byrd aka Anastasia Rodreguez as having appeared in The Black Mikado, Jesus Christ Superstar, coincidence?

Of course it's not about Connie Clark - duh! That's just a minor side discussion/distraction - which happens on just about every thread of any length. And as no other tracks from Bruce's new album have been made public (a quick search online shows that), unsurprisingly no-one's heard them yet. Patience, patience...
I think BenJi already put these up earlier....
track list:
'Only the Strong Survive' track list
1. "Only the Strong Survive"
2. "Soul Days" feat. Sam Moore
3. "Nightshift"
4. "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)"
5. "The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore"
6. "Turn Back the Hands of Time"
7. "When She Was My Girl"
8. "Hey, Western Union Man"
9. "I Wish It Would Rain"
10. "Don’t Play That Song"
and more..

Thanks. But was she Barry's wife, sister, daughter, or sister-in-law (wife of Barry's brother, whose name starts with a "W", and who produced the record, or his niece(daughter of his brother, "W.S.)? Or is "W.S. Despenza" actually Barry, with those as his legal name initials, and "Barry" is his middle name, or a nickname?
W=William. He moved out of Chicago in the mid 70's and went to Florida...Clearwater i think.
He is not Barry.
