Yes I agree Barry , also The term Modern Soul, was used to differentiate or maybe even alienate the Northern scene in the early 80's, hence all the name calling( of certain personalities) and derogatory comments about the music at that time from the traditionalists . We can now see it has become a rather useless description for new soul music, of that time and today. However I still class myself a Modern soulie

Same here Steve , I think the Modern Soul term , ( in some people minds today) encompasses things like Crossover ,funky and Mecca sounds .. Descriptions like 70's and 80's soul, sound good for today ..At least that way I can go to a night an expect some 80's , as it would say it on the wrapper ps, Best fish and Chips , Broadstairs for me , Big Chunk of Cod , and big floppy chips
