After coming out of Wigan and heading towards the swimming baths just down the road me and my mate brads asked the attendant is there any trunks in the lost property. He came out with two pairs of what I would call Stanley mathews shorts they went halfway down your leg .we got changed and went to the pool climbed up the height frame and jumped off I went one way and my shorts went the other way to a roaring laughter of all the soullies having a brew ,never lived it down
We go to local ones and around the country but it's getting right expensive now with hotel prices and the like ,we do the odd one abroad but not very many now ,weekenders especially on site hotel is good for us
Funny enough I used to go down to the fair ground when it came to town in Macclesfield in the late sixties the mods used to turn up and the rockers and a big fight happened. The fairground lads played motown and the like ,then I got into going to Wigan and the obligatory gear that came with it .I'm now in my late sixties and still doing the soul scene minus the gear .we go to venues all over the world and meet like minded people ,you can tell a soullie anywhere. The scene is so broad and wide from old to young and good times ,with a few losses along the way .brilliant gendre
We are here and wish we hadn't bothered ,went for a pint and at a £10 pint .went for a pizza and two bottles of water £35 ,miserable hotel staff ,crap 4 star hotel food inedible, canna wait to cone home never again
Quite a lot of threads condemning the drugs scene at the casino .because way back then it was cat and mouse there with the squad. Now it's just everywhere we went to a stag night at Chester races and went to the toilet inside the course and had to wade through masses of discarded empty wraps of gear ,even though children were in there too.like I said take the gear out of clubs and they would become empty the same at the casino, but what a night
When the fair used to come to our town (Macclesfield)back in the 1960/1970.the waltzers used to play motown and there was a creepy waltzer attendent giving extra spins to the girls for a kiss (or two).it must have worked because it spread to the candy floss man then to the ice cream man ,simple days eh
