  1. No just a look of having being closed for some time and not likely to open very soon!
  2. Was there two weeks back - seems to be permanently closed Rich
  3. Sorry I missed you Kris - agree about the second night - although Willie Hightower was a real highlight for me - and loved Augie Meyers!
  4. I remember when you got a 'spare' of something you gave it to a mate....
  5. Apart from the obvious fact that one is Canadian you are always going to get label variations with theses things - too much talk of books 'second issues' - just different pressings - the US pictured is pressed in by Speciality Products Corp, Olyphant, Pennsylvania - designated as 'SP' on the label - mine is a 'Plastic Products' out of Memphis i.e 'PL'
  6. Is it this one? Not dodgy at all - just 7" miniatures of LPs for Juke boxes - play at 33 1/3 - normally 6 tracks come complete with title strips and mini LP covers - the back is normally blank - some great ones out there..... great write up here.... https://www.bsnpubs.com/stereoproject/llps.html
  7. That's the problem with Discogs - what you see is not necessarily what you get - you have to dig down and read the description very carefully. Also after doing all that you will often find that there is not always a copy for sale of the 'variation' you want.....
  8. a tone-arm is not needed - it's just a fashion statement to go with the 'new' vinyl fashion statement..........it will look nice on the shelf!
  9. Peter Guralnick's - ' Sweet Soul Music' is essential reading (as are all his books) - its primarily Southern Soul centered but I'm sure Motown is covered elsewhere. Mike
  10. Major Lance - circa '74 I had him sign my 45's at the Inn Cognito - Stockton-on-Tees inc these....
  11. Did the O'jays show actually take place - in the Torch February listing? I guess it is referring to Feb '73 and it closed soon afterwards? They must of been pretty hot at that time - a million seller with 'Backstabbers'...
  12. By '75 you were as likely to hear a new release - like so many of those listed already - as you were a 'traditional' rarity - I recall hearing the LP version of Esther Philips 'What a Difference A Day Makes' at Wigan - remember talking about it with Les Cockell outside. Don't forget it was such a small timespan back then - the Mecca went from The Bottle to exclusively new releases in a matter of 2 years and so many of the tracks could be heard at both Wigan and Cleethorpes. I always insist it was not the rare soul scene it became i.e. Stafford and beyond,,,
  13. Because you didn't say 'Not' and you introduced it in a thread titled 'Dodgy Dealings' ...and you didn't correct/retract it at the time.....
  14. I don't think that is true Chris - the seller is Donald Taddia - I think he is a member on here. The seller with the 'whole box full' (as you put it) and the James Barnett was Rodney Hall - Rick Hall's son - You have previously had a go at him on here calling him 'disputable' - I felt then you should of retracted that comment when you were made aware of the facts - I don't think you did.........
  15. this is a great resource Andy .................................... https://45-sleeves.com/ you;ll find them on there.
  16. Always thought they called them 'BB' holes because they were about that size rather than actually using a BB gun to do it
  17. Some absolute bargains too!! Bill Brandon 'Rainbow Road' on the same label sold for £5.45!!!
  18. More Today than Yesterday - Spiral Staircase
  19. Rick - are they mini LP covers or regular plastic CD cases? re Sam Dees waited nearly 30 years for that one on CD and now there has been three variations in the same number of years!! Mike
  20. always thought the Belita Woods cover-up was the most disrespectful of the lot - she was still alive and kicking and very much an active performer - I saw her with Clinton in Newcastle - what right have you got to use someone elses Name? if you must do it (cover-up) at least use a bit of creative imagination I say....
  21. Tyrone St German sandwiched between Joseph Webster and Billy Harner - guess which one I have got ?
  22. That's because it is a business Cover-up......
  23. In the real world 'Good' generally means 'of a high standard' - how people in record collecting business (Goldmine etc) can equate it to - 'A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.' - I'll never know!!!
  24. Some people are desperate to say they 'have it'/'had it' rather than to actually sit down and listen and enjoy it (at home) on a good sound system, which is what I thought records were for
  25. I seem to remember 45's getting up to 8/6 which makes the 45p rounding up about right.
