  4. Got an issue with the awesome 'Personal Woman' - Rod Dearlove played it at soul Essence 13 - on the other side. Sam Dee's demo is an odd one on Kent given the lyrics! Might swap it for that Tony Borders you had at the last Soul Essence Gareth Mike
  5. Speaking of this album ...... is not The Independents version of 'Cant' Understand It' album only too? Both great versions BTW Mike
  6. Great tune - came out on UK London too! Mike
  7. What, an old bloke running through a cemetry at Colleville Sur Mer ? Mind you the way it is going shops are heading that way :o) Mike
  8. Often wondered how the Otis Redding connection came about and how nothing came of it , 'big city' New York and 'down home' Memphis seemed an unlikely pairing, anyone throw any light on it? Mike ps great track mind!
  9. Yes I have it on UK Vanguard - I'm sure the B side is 'Rose Garden' !!! Happy to check and scan when i get home Mike
  10. Have you put the price up on the Exciters LP - you originally listed it at £60 ? Normally things get reduced when they don't sell
  11. The Independent always does our music proud - seen some great tributes over the years. Just listening to her 'Turning Around' album on Atco inc. a cracking version of 'I Ain't Got To Love Nobody Else' R.I.P. Mike
  12. It was The Empire => https://www.theempire.co.uk/about.html A fantastic venue - (indeed the 'warm up venue over the road was too) we really tried to do something special for Northern Soul for once - instead of the grotty workingman's clubs - we were seriously bank rolled by the club's owner alas to no avail! Mike
  13. Yes it was - do you realise it was over seven years ago - 12 May 2001!!! You came up on your own on the train and I picked you up at Darlington station. Yes it was a very nice bouillabaise - mind you, you polished it off no problem sadly the restaurant changed hands and it is now way past it's sell by date. You did a 2.5 hour spot - I have your playlist somewhere i'll post it up. Mike
  14. Out of interest Ian - are you proficient on any musical instrument ? - what do you write music/songs on/with? Mike
  15. Well I didn't answer your question because I had no idea you were asking me one - you didn't quote my original post so I had no idea that ....... 'The original artist argument just doesn't wash with vinyl, I assume if you are making that statement you buy all the re-issue CD's that are coming out these days?' .....was aimed at me and in any case I don't understand the question however if you are asking me ..'do you buy all the re-issue CD's that are around at moment, Kent, Grapevine, Soulscape and other legit reissues?' .....the answer is NO but that is because I can't afford to buy EVERY CD I want, I do buy a fair proportion - particualry Kent and I go to great lengths to support the output of of all of the Grapevine , Soulscape, Selecta family of labels on both vinyl and CD - why I even got a credit on one ....f**K me - 52 years old and I'm still arguing the toss about cover ups Mike
  16. I meant to say 'Cover ups massage the egos of the DJ's (and their lap dogs) - nothing else. .... Mike
  17. We'll enjoy one next week at the Coachman when Pete Foster entertains us with his 'exclusives' an 'cover ups' Lofty (my 'cover up' name)
  18. Cover ups massage the egos of the DJ's - nothing else. What a cheek that they do not give credit to the real talent i.e. artists, writers and producers. And it is a bigger insult when they use the name of another performer - one that is still performing today (indeed, one that I paid good money to see in recent years to boot) - do they pay royalties for the use of the name ? The bootleg argument is way out the date now too- it does not detract one bit from the value of a record - might stop it been played by the 'big names' - but who cares about that. Time they grew up and just enjoy the music. Mike
  19. He was certainly scheduled twice - June 75 (attached) and Nov 75. Sadly it was in September '75 that he had his heart attack and fall. I saw him on the May/June tour at the Inn Cognito - Stockton-on-Tees - a Friday night I seem to remember! Mike Jackie_tour_dates_0001.pdf Jackie___wigan_0001.pdf
  20. Yes, The 'Peaches' referred to in the song was the 'pet' name Barbara's father called her by I beleive! Mike
