  6. Fantastic record Alan. I bought it back when Ian Levine had his column in Black Music - he recommended (and played) the other side, an instrumental ' Cookin' with Nixon' is that on the Black Lady release? . It was many years before I actually played 'all I need'. Mike
  7. since we are talking sad -- Bo & Ruth had the same effect on us from Middlesbrough when we first heard it at the Mecca. Remember going through to Callers in Newcastle with Bob Slater to get the album , still have a photo of the pair of us with it in Newcastle station. Mike

  13. Is it the same Bobby King as in 'Terry Evans & Bobby King' - i.e Ry Cooder's backing singers and previously known as Pure ice on Kris? and/or Bobby King & The Relation on Lunar? Mike
  14. I Posted this a few years ago on ANS.... 15. What would be more amazing and interesting would be if you and Ian posted up one at a time 400 records that you have both discovered/played first/or made big on the scene - sort of 'head to head' - I'm sure once you get to 400 you could start again Mike
  16. Thierry you might find this previous thread useful -tour dates and a nice poster in there /Motown-...use#entry404678 Mike
  17. ......the b*****ds, getting a fact wrong - I'll cancel my subscription
  18. Picked up a copy today and it it excellent - but I think you do the magazine an injustice Cunnie - it has always given first class coverage of black music - there has been some great specials and articles over the years - Sam Dees, Dan Penn; Bobby Bland, top 100 soul albums, Dave Godin's top Soul singers etc etc. Probably the only magazine I have bought consistantly over the past 15 years or more!! Mike
  19. Played the Loma album only last night - truly fantastic. I have made my own complete LOMA/WarnerBros CD compilation but it is about time it was done as a proper release - extending the album with the none album singles (and maybe unissued tracks?) . The Tony Rounce/Sequel stuff (Turbo Recordings) aside, she has been poorly represented n CD. Mike
  20. Oh no - New Years Eve ruined for me from now on - I thought all those talented people gave up their time so that they could entertain us on the stroke of midnight - it will never be the same again
  21. not as depressing as it was for her - she use to 'spend' New Years Eve with the likes of Marvin Gaye, David Ruffin , Stevie Wonder and the like - now its Duffy, Adele and Lily 'is your father in tonight' Allen what a talentless bunch ...and what about the guests, Lenny Heny and Al Murray? The Ting Tings were the best thing on there!!
  22. 'I want Sunday Back Again' ? Mike
