  1. Great record Shep. Some debate on this last year when Marva Whitney's version was posted in the 'Crossover' thread. I mentioned then that Marva W Taylor (who is Marva Whitney?) also had a great track on Forte - 'Nothing I'd Rather Be Than your Weakness'. I believe Steve Plumb has a copy for sale for £35.00 Lofty
  2. Hi Tony ..bit delayed I know, but did you sell it? Mike
  3. Bobby 'Blue' Bland !
  4. The most sensible thing I have read on here for a long time!!!!
  5. Worth grabbing a copy of the Deluxe edition of the 'Standing In The Shadows Of Motown' CD. The 2nd CD has 'stripped down' instrumental versions of Motown hits - with a description of who is playing what on each track...for example 'It's a Shame' has 'Uriel playing the basic time and "Pistol" playing the fills. And on 'I Was Made to Love Her' - 'the double drum tandem of "Pistol" Allen and Benny Benjamin'. So it could be the are two drummers on Frank Wilson but of course there are also multiple percussionists too inc Ashford, Whitfield, 'Bongo Brown' etc And there are some references to overdubs. Whatever, when you listen to the tracks without the vocals it is absolutely wonderful - geniuses all of 'em! Mike
  6. I always thought it added to a record's provenance, equally I don't mind writing on the label if it indciates a release date or plug side. I'm more worried about what a record sounds like. Mike BTW have bootlegs ever been sold with drill holes?
  7. not totally off topic....did you know that Richard Searling was responsible for the recording of what was to be Joy Division’s first album at RCA. It was canned and eventually re-recorded and released as ‘Unknown Pleasures on Factory. He and (Soul Bowls) John Anderson produced the tracks with Anderson apparently dubbing the synth parts that caused the dissatisfaction . ‘Interzone’on these sessions was an attempt to re-work NF Porters 'Keep On Keeping On'. I've often thought this one of the more interesting parts of his career but have never seen much mention of it. I have not seen the 'Joy Division' movie - but he is credited so could be in it ....I'll get me coat Mike
  8. Has he died? what's all the fuss about? .....this is a man who has made a very good living out of what we do for a hobby! he is a very lucky man - he has not contributed one iota to the creation of the music that has made him so well off - all he has ever done is play records that more often than not he has been given!! Why are you all so in awe of him? it's just the end of a radio show!
  9. Absolutely - his influence was massive - not only re-invented the sound of the trumpet but singing also - it was all very 'proper' before him. Mike
  10. already nominated but for me - Dan Penn - primarily with Spooner Oldham but others too, follow this link - https://www.geocities.jp/hideki_wtnb/danpenncover.html Mike
  11. Joy Division turned their re-working of it into 'Interzone'. Richard Searling and John Anderson were behind that at RCA. Mike
  12. Grant - came out in 73, think Bell issued it to cash in on the Phil Int success - Bell 378 - Look Over Your Shoulder / Four For The Price Of One Not played it lately but does it not have fake crowd noise? 'I Dig Your Act' my favourite 45 with 'Ship Ahoy' one of my all time favourite soul albums Mike
  13. It was actually a 'give away' because he thought he could get some more not because there were lots of them - he never did!! - does not have a copy himself Mike
  14. Never mind Glen Campbell - what about Carol Kaye. It's been great to see the Funk Brothers get some long overdue credit in the past few years but Carol Kaye never seems to get a mention , have you seen the things she has played on ? Bass =>https://www.carolkaye.com/www/library/basshits.htm and Guitar = >https://www.carolkaye.com/www/library/guitarhits.htm Mike
  15. LITTLE MILTON-LETS GET TOGETHER-CHECKER MINT - [GREAT TRACK]£10 Fantastic crossover backed with awesome Deep 'I'll Always Love You' If only all records as good as this only cost a tenner!! Mike
  16. Steve - 9 cracking sides - you need the demo that started this thread - it is a different take with a spoken part before the vocal kicks in, you won't have a full set until you have it!!! You should buy mine off me - much less than that ebay offering Mike
  17. anything by R.Dean Taylor plus 'The Night' and Billy Preston & Syreeta Mike
  18. Bri - there are two versions of the song - the demo - the mono side (I believe) is extended. I understand it is very collectable with Sweet Soul (Japanese?) collectors. Did'nt think it was worth that much mind I would be happy to sell my copy for a lot less than that and make do with the issue with the great 'Love Has to Grow' on the other side! Mike
  19. Indeed it was - Colne Municpal Hall - 13 July 1994 to be precise Play list - 'That's The Way Love Is' 'Ain't Nothing You Can Do' 'St James Infirmary' 'I'll Take Care of You' 'Further on Up The Road' 'I Pity The Fool' 'As Soon As The Weather Breaks' ? - unknown 'Ain't No Sunshine' 'Today I Started Loving You Again' 'Share Your Love With Me' 'Stormy Monday' 'Goin' Down Slow' 'You're Got To Hurt' ? - a track from 'Blues You Can Use' and the Van Morrison show was Manchester 17 April 2000 at the at the Manchester Evening News Arena (MEN). I also went see him on the same tour at the London Albert Hall 22 April 2000 and it was so much better than the MEN. Bobby was so much more relaxed - he really benefited from the more warm and intimate surroundings (Van did for that matter). He really excelled on the slownumbers including the classic 'Share Your Love With Me' and the later 'You've Got To Hurt Before You Heal'. another bonus was Candy Dulfer was Van's special guest. Oh and I almost forgot Van also roped in Chris Farlowe both nights The play list for both concerts - 1 'That's The Way Love Is'/'Ain't Nothing You Can Do' (AH/MEN) 2 'Further on Up The Road'/'I Pity The Fool' (AH/MEN) 3 'Ain't No Sunshine' (AH/MEN) 4 '?'/'Everyday I Have The Blues' (AH/MEN) 5 'Share Your Love With Me' (AH/MEN) 6 'Driftin'' blues'/'Reconsider'/'Stormy Monday' (a Blues medley - with another track in there somewhere - I think!) (AH/MEN) 7 'You're Got To Hurt Before You Heal' (AH/MEN) 8 'I Wouldn't Treat A Dog' (MEN only) 9 Members Only (MEN only ) 10 Get Your Money Where You Spend Your Time with Van Morrison 1 Ain't that Loving You (AH/MEN) 2 ? I didn't know but neither did Bobby!!! (MEN only ) 3 'Ain't Nothing You Can Do' (AH/MEN) I'll get me anorak..... Mike

  24. Weekend Edition Saturday, April 4, 2009 - The 2009 inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include guitarist Jeff Beck, the hip-hop pioneers in RUN DMC and the hard rockers in Metallica. Also among this year's class is a native of Cleveland " the site of the Hall of Fame " who's a true soul survivor: Bobby Womack. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p...oryId=102704598
