  1. Hi Mark - mine is a US issue white coloured label - HBS/ABC Records. Bought it when it came out ! Mike
  2. Only by a nutter Contempo is the original UK release but who cares? get it played!!
  3. Wanted the spoken intro version - please pm with price and condiiton
  4. This is a funny old forum at times
  5. Ian Levine and Colin Curtis Streets ahead at the time - they defined the Northern Soul sound - and changed it several times. In addition CC's last hour defined what became the 70's scene. Mike
  6. Wanted pm if you have a copy with price, thanks HOWLIN' WOLF - POOR BOY - UK chess LP CAT. NO: CRL.4508 Must be Excellent to Mint - VINYL and COVER
  7. Good write up on wikipedia It mentions Bob Dylan and the influence of Blowin in the wind' - Cooke was greatly moved upon hearing Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" in 1963 and was reportedly in awe[1] that such a poignant song about racism in America could come from someone who was not black. I don't know about 'in awe' I think he was mighty pissed off!! All those skinny white hippies and folkies mixing it with Martin Luther King on the Washington march!! I think a lot of great black acts must of felt like that when they were always constrained (and pressured) by the need to produce pop hits and dance crazes - likewise Redding and 'Dock of the Bay' , Gaye with What's Going On ? etc etc IMHO BTW Bettye Swann does a nice version too. Mike
  8. [quote ewhere - dismiss the likes of the Stylistics and the Chi-Lites out of hand? ("Because they're Sh*t" is not the right answer, BTW...) And which other artists can you think of in the same 'category', who shouldn't be?
  9. Also on an even rarer French 45!! Mike
  10. I can't see how they could crack down - there are currently 342,778 record listings across all genres - how could you validate everyone? If they had the experts - they wouldn't have the time. Suspect all designer labels employ people to track down fakes wherever they are sold so do the work for ebay. I'm afraid the only cure here is for 'real' fans to ignore such blatent fakes - and I can't see the point in them - but that's if you care. Mike
  11. Fantastic record - an absolute bargain! Mike
  12. Is this getting played out? Love Albert King but it always amazes me when these things get played, Mike
  13. I have a copy of the Del Larks 'Job Opening' that sounds good
  14. Sadly the dawn of 2009 saw the demise of the original Orwell at Wigan - the best Soul night by a country mile for many years. That left 'Soul Essence' - fantastic as ever - I've not missed one since my first in '99 and booked up again for this year. I've always said when these two pack in - so will I!! However, in the nick of time Sean Hampsey and co came to the rescue with 'Just Soul' in November - always a lot of talk about play lists and policies at venues but this is the first one to have the bottle to play REAL Soul without the trophy hunting/hot boxing pissing contests you get elsewhere - the irony of course is that they could of done that as well if they so wished Mike
  15. Agreed Ady - and my particular favourite of his - from the same album - 'Guilty' Mike
  16. Must be some connection. Didn't Eddie Amoo continue with the Chants before finally joining the Real Thing and his brother Chris? . 'I've Been Trying' on Chipping Norton came out whilst the Real Thing were on the go. Maybe it is a spin off from either group? Mike
  17. Will you or Kev take the Captain Benjamin L. Willard role? With Air Cavalry support from John Benson complete with a Southern soul soundtrack ? Mike
  18. The album also contains her wonderful rendition of 'Be My Baby' - awesome stuff that also came out on UK 45 - Major Minor and Pye I believe Mike
  19. Dead right Pete. Bob Slater and Jack Wardle - swapped the EP for cash and a pile of emi discs. Interesting Ian mentions 'Send Him Back' - Jack still insists he played it to Ian - who declined it then later turned up with a copy Bob was also credited by Richard Seerling on the 'After Hours' cd with giving him the UK issue of Cajun Heart. I feel sure one or two of you on here will have a 45 with Bob's name on Mike
  20. Funny Steve - I never forget how much you charge for a record Lofty
  21. Indeed it was - hence my pleasant surprise when I heard - albeit the inst. - played at Wigan Incidentally at the time - when readily available - it was the multi coloured version - its only recent years I've seen the white one. Mike
  22. Surely that 'smudge' devalues the record - its no better than a record classed as 'WOL', the madness of record collecting knows no bounds Thankfully I got my copy for a quid from Soul Bowl when it was being played at the time. Most definately remember hearing the instrumental side played at Wigan Mike
  23. Does anyone have any of those brown cardboard sleeves going spare. Poly lined with a coloured edge (red, yellow, green, blue, orange etc). Use to come in packs of 10. Need some in excellent condition with no writing on them. PM me with the cost if you can help. Many thanks. Mike ps I know they are crap but it is too late to go back now
