  1. Been listening in the car for the past few days - great stuff, like all Daptone a lot more authentic than most of the stuff coming out now.
  2. If it had the 'crossover' 45 only version of " When a boy falls in love " it would be even better Eddie!
  3. Bit picky aren't you Blake ?
  4. Good call on the Luther Ingram John (and the two Darrell Banks, Sandra Wright and Lerot Hutson !)
  5. If it is the Yentob one, I saw it first time, it was absolute SHIT, black music does not exist - more interested in the Muse !
  6. This nonsense is never ending - Pick the best 1000 !!! and whilst you are there drop him four and half grand for that cracking painting of Barry White. I know they like their beer in Belgium - but come on
  7. Don't apologise - you make a good point - the stereo effect on the strings was always off putting to me swirling in and out and like most things on Turbo poorly produced and pressed , that said it is preferred version -even with one or two of my mates. Mind I think it a bit of an over statement to say 'almost insipid stereo recording' about the Loma version - I tend to listen to it in the context of the album rather than as a potential floor filler - and the album - mono or stereo - would always be in my top 10! ps I will be seeking out a mono copy - never given it a second thought before now!!
  8. I think that is why the Turbo version is the preferred version that gets played out. Mike
  9. Do you know Jackie Wilson does not have a single entry in 'The Northern Soul Top 500' - 'Sweetest Feeling' comes in 'bubbling under' at the dizzy heights of 504!!!!
  10. Of the top of my head ..... as well as some already mentioned - Dees, Marvin, Freddy Butler, etc 'Why Not Tonight' - Jimmy Hughes - UK Atlantic - fantastic Southern Fame 'Roots' - Curtis - Buddah - always my favourite by him - see Youtube for his wonderful performances on Old Grey Whistle Test from the album Hypnotized - Linda Jones - Loma - her Turbo stuff is wonderful but this hangs together as an album better - better recording and pressing too 'His California Album' - Bobby Bland - Probe - his great return to form 'Totally Involved' - Jimmy Lewis - Hotlanta Here Is...Barbara Lynn - Atlantic 'Facts Of Life' - Bobby Womack - always loved his early UA stuff the best 'You've got My Mind messed Up' - James Carr - Stateside - more wonderful Southern 'Super Dude' - Don Covay - Mercury 'There Is' - Dells - Cadet 'Live at The Harlem Square Club' - Sam Cooke - RCA - my favourite Cooke - epitomises 60's Soul performance 'The Immortal' - Otis Redding - Atco - posthumous release but as good an album as any 'Cry To Me' - Loleatta Holloway - Aware - Sam Dees all over it!
  11. Strange one Backtrack 6 - like a Diamond in a tar pit amongst all the others in the series all that Polydor stuff inc the Who (Jimi excepted of course) = wonder what the rock fans made of 'Don't Be Sore At Me'
  12. It must be quite hard - Dave Godin use to bemoan the fact - often in Blues & Soul - that he loaned his copy to UK Atlantic with a view to getting a UK release but they never returned it and that was back in early 70's. £70 sounds about right - but I make do with my UK Oval facsimile
  13. Quite partial myself Mark and been picking up a few lately - always loved the UK Various Artists albums - Islands - 'Duke & The Peacock', ' This Is Sue', This Is Blues', 'Soul '66', the Minit '33 Minutes' and ' Backtrack 6' ( both in you pictures) etc etc- opened up a whole new world for me back in the day. Mike
  14. must be like the Manship effect! seems you don't even need the 'sealed' constant ... this has just finished .... https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&autorefresh=true&hash=item51971190a9&item=350426861737&nma=true&pt=Music_on_Vinyl&rt=nc&si=ACy%252FpJdvIIaG7LYzln%252FVcYV4Qco%253D#ht_5607wt_905 but I recently got a sealed copy at less than half the price! https://cgi.ebay.com/Immortal-Otis-Redding-LP-Stereo-Original-SEALED-/350414869035?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item51965a922b#ht_3363wt_905 BTW the Ann Peebles finished at $202.50!!!!!
  15. Anyone seen this on ebay = > https://cgi.ebay.com/ANN-PEEBLES-PART-TIME-LOVE-ULTRA-RARE-ORIG70-LP-SEALED-/140495139043?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item20b629b0e3#ht_5227wt_905 Great album but a bit pricey.. This dealer specializes in LPs and has some wonderful items across all genres but always commands top dollar and gets it ! I can't understand why Mike
  16. There you go - all that chatter and you ended up with the recommendation in the second reply, good choice , can't imagine who recommended them
  17. I think you are just listening to slower records these days Flanny - it happens to us all!
  18. We have - bitter with sweet- cottilion & atlantic - Tony & Tandy
  19. Been the proud owner of their Polydor album for many years - you couldn't mistake that motley crew! Mike
  20. It's the MOB Mike
  21. The UK version of this design has the normal light blue and also a less common deeper blue - I have a couple of Otis' 45's in this deeper colour. Mike
  22. Thanks for the heads up - it was well worth a listen. Mike
  23. Macy Gray - once (correctly) described as five parts Marge Simpson and one part Billie Holiday
  24. Steve Plumb has one listed => https://www.soulmusic.co.uk/Rarities.htm
