  1. I'm not prejudiced (i've got 'Up and Out Of here') but he wasn't exactly Wilson Pickett or a multitude of others for that matter
  2. Great record - big Mecca spin a the time - don't think I've heard it out since!
  3. Totally agree - mind after a quick look in the gallery section on this forum I'm not so sure the show was entirely inaccurate
  4. Currently listening to that Smooth FM nighter from last weekend and Richard and Kev are doing a great job harking back 30 years without mentioning Winstanley
  5. Disgraceful description by the seller - even when asked a direct question about it being boot it was avoided - saying he had never seen a boot so could not comment
  6. This must be an impostor......................
  7. My planner just says 'Terry Underhill' in this time period - is it instead of ?
  8. Nice set Wayne - would like to get down for one these days ! Some favourites of mine there ... and of course only one mix for Innersection
  9. I didn't type it out - I cut and pasted...and in any case 'phone boy' or ' uncle' ? ...and the titled was shortened - wow ! get a life
  10. One of Dave Godin's all time favourites of course. Love the scene in the original 'Hairspray' movie when Toussaint McCall ( playing a down and out) walks off singing along to himself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6djSvTX-lsY Mike
  11. and Hank Williams too..... The silence of a falling star lights up a purple sky. And as I wonder where you are I'm so lonesome I could cry.
  12. Always thought Chuck Berry was a master of the lyric - amongst other things. One of my favourites - Memphis lyrics Long distance information, give me Memphis Tennessee Help me find the party trying to get in touch with me She could not leave her number, but I know who placed the call 'Cause my uncle took the message and he wrote it on the wall Help me, information, get in touch with my Marie She's the only one who'd phone me here from Memphis Tennessee Her home is on the south side, high up on a ridge Just a half a mile from the Mississippi Bridge Help me, information, more than that I cannot add Only that I miss her and all the fun we had But we were pulled apart because her mom did not agree And tore apart our happy home in Memphis Tennessee Last time I saw Marie she's waving me good-bye With hurry home drops on her cheek that trickled from her eye Marie is only six years old, information please Try to put me through to her in Memphis Tennessee
  13. Oscar Toney Jr was your dad ?
  14. There is also a great wet fish shop round the corner from you too - not many of them left either - I get my skates from there, Mussels and Halibut too!!! I have just posted some stuff about Alan Fearnley's on Facebook Mike
  15. Ironic that shop should be picked - its awful! Saw Alan walking up Linthorpe Road the other week - he looked well - we exchanged emails a year or so ago and yes , he does miss the customers. I certainly miss his shop - a sad day when it closed. Remember buying Johnnie Taylor's Who's Making Love for my brothers Christmas present for 8/6 in 68/69. Went in on the last day to wish him good luck - I bought Bettye Swann's Honest John CD. Hard to believe it was December 2004 not 2008!!! We should re-open Austin's round the corner from you in Parliament Road - you never know it could become a Soul quarter lauded by Mayor Mallon Mike
  16. Fantastic record - one of my favourite 70's deep slowies - mines a London demo with the centre missing
  17. I'm in Middlesbrough and can't get one!! Record Store Day's are a great idea if your town has a record store that is
  18. One good thing about their retirements is that their comeback spots will be cracking nights -everyone will want tickets!!
  19. Was it ever supposed to be a soul sound? thought it was only played (or given to be played) as a wind up ?
  20. Is the UK issue of "Rainbow 71" on UA also shorter?
  21. Bet the packaging was reused too - there are some greedy sods out there !
  22. Would it be Bernie Wiliams 'Ever Again' on Brian Matthew's Sounds Of the 60's' the week before last ? Always plays some good Soul included 'Send My Baby Back' by Freddie Hughes last week.
  23. I'd of thought about 20 quid. Like you bought it at the time (on the strength of a Mecca play or two) - don't think it got much more action.
  24. and Tyrone Davis of course...
