  1. Soul's biggest 'contribution' to rock - JIMI
  2. Clydie King was allegedly Bob Dylans 'second wife' and bore him two children as well as singing on his recordings!
  3. Wanted - "Wanted One Soul Singer" - Johnnie Taylor - Original US or UK Stax LP. Must be mint to mint- vinyl AND Cover. Let me know your total cost inc p&p and paypal fees. PM please - will reply to all
  4. I was there - good spot. We exchanged messages about your Middlesbrough days when you use to contribute to Ian Levines's ANS site. Often walk up Hillside with the dog - I live over at Crooksbarn. Just think when you were at Chertsey Avenue your were about half a mile (Brambles Farm) from one of the most respected collectors and collections in 70's - Bob Slater -you never know what is lurking! Excuse my irritation with this thread - but I don't understand why it is causing so much interest - a bloke has put an item up for sale on ebay and described it accurately and honestly as far as I can see - he ain't promising mega rarities - to quote him ...'there is a mixture of original vinyl, pressings, re-pressings, re-issues etc and even describes the 'bonus' as '..... might be a load of junk...'. You pays your money and you takes your choice).... let him get on with it. Mike
  5. who are you? or is 'Wiggyflat' your real name?
  6. Jack Wardle from Middlesbrough has a cracking photo of Ben E backstage at the town's local Mecca ballroom - the Excel Bowl - very early 70's - not the usual posed photo (with fans). Not sure when I will bump into him next - but if I do I'll endeavour to try and borrow it and get it scanned and posted up!
  7. Oh Steve - I thought I might of made some impression on you in the 37 years I've known you Technically Tomo is from Stockton too
  8. My long time favourite of his....his 'other' Brunswick release.......
  9. sounds good Ian - just for my benefit what is the difference between a 're-edit' and 're-mix' , is 're-mix' using the actual tapes ?
  10. the O'jays done by countless others - Jimmy Durante...
  11. Well he couldn't help having money - and he used it in a way we could dream of back then and to all our (northern Soul fans ) benefit. '.... and even less inclination' - you're joking - we would of killed to make trips to the US back then its what we dreamt of - we knew there was big wide world beyond Station Road but the furthest I got for Soul was Torquay!!
  12. Would not disagree with any of that - it is basically what I said - Soul evolved into Disco and Ian embraced it and his plays simply reflected that - but I don't think it was a conscious effort to emulate any 'gay' scene , Disco was not exclusively Gay. And I'm sure the record company's were targeting and successfully reaching a wider audience than that.
  13. There was more to the Highland Room than just Ian - a large percentage of the crowd were Soul fans who enjoyed new release Soul - most of which was probably sourced via Record Corner and the many shops it supplied. Soul evolved into Disco and Ian's plays simply reflected that.
  14. No. In 76 the Highland Room was playing in the main new release Soul. Ian playing the the increasingly Disco orientated stuff (as Soul was fast becoming) - much of which would of been played in New York discos. With Curtis continuing to play mainstream Soul releases many of which continue to this day to be Modern 70s anthems.
  15. Maybe it is not a scan of the actual cover Bob - just picked up from the net or another listing maybe? Difficult to scan LP covers on A4 scanners - which is all most people have.
  16. As much as I like the Kent CD's - they are only demos and no match for the TSMGO album. Add the non album tracks - Heroin, I'm So Very Glad, Fragile and the Bettye Swann duets and you would have a wonderful CD covering his Atlantic career.
  17. 10 quid for a re-issue is still a bargain - there must be loads of of worn out copies out there ! However, why no CD ? it's been long overdue with various 'contractual' issues ruling it out - so why on vinyl?
  18. But it looks like it is autographed by the producer 'Eddy Reyes' and its a white label demo!
  19. What's the LP like? a bit pricey on Moerer!
  20. I've often wondered how do you play these? do they play at 45rpm on a normal turntable?
  21. Hi Richard - Parkash posted this up the other day....what a great talent.
  22. probably a lot less - WOL !!
  23. I hope it's not the same goosebumps Martha Reeves brought me out in a few years back !!!
