  2. I didn't think so and it is hard to judge anything with the benefit of 10-20-30-40 years hindsight. They were well written and gave an accurate picture of what was going on to the wider BM readership.
  3. Tony Cummings was my favourite writer at the time - his in-depth pieces in BM were always something to look forward to. I thought the three articles he wrote about Northern Soul whilst provocative, were very well written and accurate. Mike
  4. There was an episode in series 3 centered around the Russia in 1966 world cup which was held at Roker Park Sunderland ( as well as Ayresome Park in Middlesbrough). So time may have ''moved on so as to be able to accurately feature the early burgeoning scene in the north, although i'm sure it will be full of inaccuracies which will be picked up and noted here Mike
  5. Judith might of put a few buttons on his shirt ..and was he sneaking his own cans in there ?

  9. George Kerr and his various associates - Richard Tee, Bert Keyes, Jerry Harris etc must of been responsible for many classic 'Northern' tracks - iand in addition some of the finest Deep soul recordings. Mike
  10. don't know what all the fuss is about Sean - if it was any good it would of been released
  11. If you want a CDR replacement Bob pm me and I'll send you one. Mike
  12. I tend not to look at that way Roger - if I buy an album from the US for say $10 - I know postage might make it $25 - so it is £15 for an album. I know I would be delighted if i could walk into a shop in this country and buy an album I wanted for £15!! Just my way of looking at it. Mike
  13. Best get the CD that has the full album sans applause! plus some nice unreleased stuff. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ill-Be-Sweeter-Tomorrow-1967-1969/dp/B000065V68/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344017101&sr=8-1 Mike

  17. Wanted - Marla Debrick - Um Um Darling on Phil LA of Soul 339 Must be Mint to excellent. Let me know the total cost. Thanks
  18. Quite agree with you. I don't think the lyrics of Rock records sit comfortably with Soul singers. It was reported when Dylan offered Otis 'Just Like A Woman' Otis commented that 'there are too many words man'. And it always sounds that way to me. I think Wexler was one of the biggest culprits in attempting to crossover his artists this way. Some of the material Aretha recorded for instance left a lot to be desired - Eleanor Rigby, Let it Be, Long & Winding Road, The Border Song and even the Weight. Mike
  19. I would be worried if you liked it Pete :o) Mike
  20. Tavare's version a firm favourite of mine too. Mike

  23. from the same album - Randy Newman's 'I Think It's going to Rain Today'.....
